What problems are Exstata builders supposedly having? I was one of very few builders with a 'real' problem, the PSU oscillating for a couple of seconds on power up, which is highly likely to be my own fault.

Very handy Just one suggestion for the diagrams..... it may be helpful to show the parallel loads on the tubes a bit earlier in the document. It didn't really 'click' for me until I saw both the CCS and the parafeed cap/transformer connected to the plate.

From what I can find, the dynalo runs 50-60mA by default, so less than the M3. I don't think it can go much further, because heatsinking is difficult. 60mA max with heatsinks, according to AMB's website.

But yeah, as MPI says I can't account for the sound. I've only heard the M3, and only with a few phones.

Based on the original specs that came out, the M3 would drop out of the default class A bias quite easily...... but I think that those specs were wrong. I'll do some quick reading. CKKIII, I doubt it. Not nearly as much current as the M3 can provide. [EDIT] LCD-2 are 91dB/1mW and 50 ohms. So you're looking at 4.5mA and 0.22V to reach that which the M3 can push no sweat. You could have four doublings of current (72mA) to get you well above 91dB and still be within the default 80mA class A bias. Big heatsinks would allow higher bias for even more headroom. Of course a B22 pushing 160mA or a DynaHi pushing 150-300mA would be better, depending on your budget.

Considering the commercial direction that Cavalli Audio seems to be taking, I think we'll be waiting a while. And as much as the Kevin Gilmores of the world kick arse as designers and builders, I can't see who is going to step up to the plate to give us another project that is so accessible to middling DIY'ers like myself.

I recall you saying that you really liked the Exstata you heard......
-
Indeed! I was going to ask what you meant by "ONE PERCENT thd at reasonable signal levels." FWIW, mine sounds a lot better than the SRD7-SB with a normal bias Lambda, and for now that is good enough. I'll build a KG** one day......

A couple of CD's for my sister and her new baby: ROCKABYE BABY! I went with AC/DC and Queen, but they all seem brilliantly done

I can't see any perfect comparison to the usual DIY gear. Yes to the CKKIII since it is discrete with no global feedback....... but the CKKIII is a push-pull BJT running a fairly low quiescent current, whereas the Asgard is singled ended MOSFETs running massive amounts of current.

Anybody seen these yet? Pretty damn sexy, really. Hopefully they are easy to get hold of...... Walnut Chassis with Aluminum Top Panel Steel Chassis & Bottom Plates with Walnut Side Panels Aluminum Chassis & Bottom Plates with Walnut Side Panels Example:

Oh, if you've got that option, absolutely.

Two seconds on the self timer is a good substitute to reduce camera shake on pressing the shutter.
-
Is there room between the power and audio inputs for a ground loop breaker between earth and signal ground? You would also need to isolate the inputs and output from the chassis, but it might be an option that prevents hum issues across the board without compromising safety.

Felipe Melo has a LOT to answer for. What a twat.

I think I just came a little.

I wonder whether kwkarth has retired recently, and has nothing else to do?

According to the LCD-2 thread on Head-Fi, photos of the LCD-2 driver are a well kept secret. Any ideas why? Surely the above photos alone aren't even remotely helpful to the competition......

Excellent iPhone review here, with very interesting data on the reception issues...... [EDIT] Beaten! Refresh before posting next time, Beef.

Ground breaking, certainly not...... but you have to agree that this is the sort of amp that should be encouraged. Talking/arguing with kwkarth feels exactly like talking with my father after he's had one too many ports.

Unfortunately, my workplace has switched over to 2007 and nobody ever remembers to save in 2003 formats. But 2003 with compatibility packs installed is buggy as shit. In retaliation, I'm going to screw them all over and start working in Office 2010.

Good call. Nothing says gay pride like salty meat.

Cool, looking forward to some non-Head-Fi opinions
