  1. Selling one of the kids might cover the Porsche.
  2. Yep. After you select the songs to convert, select Dynamic Output Location in the window below. Enter the syntax for however your music is currently organised, and voila, it will put them into folders all by itself.
  3. Or just make sure the receiving end is transformer coupled. No direct electrical connection.
  4. Career change? Wow. General mid-life crisis or specific issues? I've always thought I would probably buy a Porsche and find a mistress when my crisis comes up.
  5. I think Yikes ended up buying and keeping one....?

    Elise Claire

    That's awesome naamanf. Congratulations! :D
  7. Sorry to hear about your dog, Steve. His high spirits sound positive though! * Me, standard crappy day at work, then spent some time at the Halifax Buskers Festival...... Flame Oz were fucking awesome. Rob Roy Collins was pretty average. All talk, little action.
  8. They're a pretty simple thing. I bought one for $2 at Walmart I assume cooking/department stores in the UK would have them as well.
  9. You can get stands designed specifically for this......

    Audeze LCD-2

    Hard core suckage.
  11. This might be a good next project for me. I was originally waiting for the parafeed jobbie, but this might be a better option to dip my toes into some basic P-P rather than another PCB. With the CCS upgrade plus a nicer attenuator it is still pretty cheap, I can play around with output caps, stain the wooden case...... *ponders*
  12. Carry a compass with you, and hold it above the wire. The ticks of a powered electric fence make the compass needle jump.
  13. ...... did you find this forum from Steve Guttenberg's blog on CNET?
  14. Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
  15. I just spent 3 and a half hours on that!
  16. When buying in Australia, I always found it was cheaper to buy everything from Mouser. Particularly if you can get the order over $200, and qualify for free shipping. Farnell is a ripoff, with poor local stock levels.
  17. I fucked up and killed all my control cells. Waste of a whole week

In short attacks, you probably won't notice crossover distortion either.
  19. I guess I got lucky. I got everything except for the big cap on the high bias supply. Cool beans. They will go on my next order
  20. *subscribe* I really hope others chime in with build experiences, pitfalls, common difficulties etc.
  21. If it isn't available at Mouser or Newark I get antsy, and shipping costs spiral out of control. This was one of the really good things about the Exstata. Yeah, I don't need quite that much info, but there is more than just the resistors. A simple BOM with at least one recommended part value, specifying preferred cap tech and lead spacings etc. would be very desirable. A few people describing problems and pitfalls they had is always incredibly useful too, and saved me huge amounts of heartache on my first M3 and Millett Max builds. Your other thread is definitely a great start. I've got an AMB E24 controlling mains power to my Exstata, and this has provisions for an open-on-rise thermal breaker to cut the power. From the start I was considering using this but never bothered to follow through, because I didn't need to place a Newark order. Do you think that this sort of scheme would be quick enough to save the shunt transistors from frying? I was looking at 75C or 80C TO220 models, hopefully I can find a way to secure them to the heatsinks. Unless anybody has a better suggestions?
  22. Well we're not on Head-Fi now. How many PSU's have blown up? Considering people like me can build it, I think it nailed its target perfectly. Even though I am quite disappointed now by the revelations that it wasn't more thoroughly measured and tested before it was released, it was a great project for people at my level. I would have loved to build a KGSS, but I do try to be as independent as possible, and I just couldn't do it myself with the limited documentation. So bring it on guys. Give people like me a better alternative, match Alex's level of documentation, use parts that everyone can get hold of easily, and we will build it!
  23. How many PSU's have blown up? I haven't seen a single report, other than one from loose wires. Maybe NoNoNoNoNoNo screwed one up, but that is NoNoNoNoNoNo. And considering 50 J271's are still cheaper than it costs to buy a matched quad of 2SJ74, I really don't see a problem. Look, I realise that the Exstata isn't the be all and end all, but don't you think your engaging in just a little bit too much hyperbole?
