1. Closer now, but not listenable yet. We have a strange problem, static on the right channel and a hum on the left (left channel is where we replaced parts.). The voltages seem good. The static is quite strange and I assumed it was tube related. It comes and goes, is not consistent. We moved all tubes side to side, same issue; changed output tubes, same problem. Two different headphones, same thing, so not dust in the headphones.
2. Now this is some great science fiction "So what is different about the latest TMP? Virtually everything. In development for years, the latest TMP is a new beast that will rewrite the history of digital audio … Period! With patents pending and a new entirely fanless chassis, TMP with D2D with I.D.E.A.S. (Impulse Discharge of Events in Atemporal Space) uses technologies usually employed in advanced satellite communications, and can reach staggering levels of jitter reduction, down to the femtosecond region. I.D.E.A.S. can refine audio data to 1/100th the jitter of mechanical transports and 1/10th that of atomic and rubidium clocking technologies. *I.D.E.A.S. is a patent pending technology that creates a Virtual Perfect Compact Disc on the memory. *The VPCD is an empty but essentially perfect CD on writable memory that can only accept bits when they are completely free of jitter. To avoid dropping mis-read bits, an advanced revision of intelligent re-reading (RUR Level 3) guides the laser until the VPCD is filled, at the precise jitter-free moment in time. *" AudiogoN ForSale: The Memory Player Newest Release
3. I do think I hear differences between software players, but who knows. I am using Amarra now.
4. Isn't Barry the same guy who believes his Nordost cables are the best? I did listen to him about the Lio-8 but he may be cookoo in other areas
5. That, and I don't believe there are differences any more and in the past I was just convincing myself of perceived changes.
6. I have an SSD for my OS. The sonic studio guys believe this makes a difference, and they use simple cables, mogami, don't believe in the cable hype. So, i gave it a try. No difference to my ears. Now that all the software players are using memory playback i think it may be even more of a moot point. But, who knows. The wack jobs at CA believe all sorts of tweaks make a difference. I think I just got tired of the tweak merry-go-round, been fooling with computer audio since 2004.
7. Ok, getting things a bit more in control but still problems on left channel. Replaced Q26 which got all the batteries up to voltage, cathode correct on the 6DJ8, and D24 lit, but output is high on left side. The 100v zeners seem to be conducting both ways and the other 2sk216s probably need to be replaced as Inu made reference to in his instructions to set things up. Voltages at stax jacks: L+ -432 L- -148 R+ -25 R- -25 B 397 Close but not there yet. It certainly could be worse with the level of fail we achieved with the wiring
8. Thanks for all the comments, just got off the phone with KG. Confession time, when we first fired up the amp section we had the +500v and -560v wires swapped on both channels so KG thinks this may have fried Q30 or 31. We are swapping one of them now. Digger, we did remove C13 or C12, one of them.
9. Thanks, Craig. Some more testing. Battery test points on the problem side test around 18v on the positive side and -540 on the negative side (in relation to ground). We now noticed two leds are out, D10 & D11. D8 & D9 are very dim. The leds work because they flash on at start up. Seems like something must be wrong in common to both batteries.
10. OK, transformers wired, PS voltages tested correct, voltages correct at amp, all leds lit, batteries on one side quickly adjusted to 750v with RV2. But, on the other side, both batteries are stuck at 530v and no change when moving RV2 all the way in either direction. We tested the 10k pot before putting it in and had it centered. The leds on these batteries are much dimmer, more so on one than the other. Ideas?
11. I would love to come, and I will make an effort.
12. Thanks all, the hard stuff was done by my friend steve (stv1756). I helped a bit; it has been fun. The transformers are at my local post office but i missed the closing time by 1 hour today. I coulda had it running by now maybe , or fried
13. Amp section done, just waiting on the transformers now.
14. Two questions: Would it be advisable to attach the heat sink brackets to the case before we solder the side fets to avoid any extra pressure on the fets or is this overkill? Should we braid/twist in the umbilical? Thanks.
15. My friend and I are building it together. I ordered all the parts, we are stuffing the boards together, and he does all the soldering. KG is the brains behind the scenes, since this is the first time I have built anything and it's quite a jump from what my friend has done before.
16. We did teat the LEDs, yes and all the resistors too. We found one mislabeled resistor.

18. Someones trying to sell their pre-order slot at Audiogon for $1K. At least he said OBO
19. Thanks guys, just screws and wire to go now.
20. Thanks, I already ordered the sockets from DIYhifisupply. I was referring to something on the BOM under hardware (line 5) which says 2 - 8 pin sockets. A mistake?
21. Wow, part sourcing is pretty interesting Could I get some help with a few things. Read the whole thread but could not find an answer. I need a replacement for the 8 fast diodes STTH1512D And I can't find these: 100/3W 71-CPF3100R00FKE14 CPF3100R00FKE14 100K/3W 71-CPF3100K00FHE14 CPF3100K00FHE14 100uf/50v 647-ups1h101mpd ups1h101mpd 8 pin socket ?? I found the FKE14 at Newark but the shipping is not nice and wanted to see if i could combine. Thanks for any help. And Colin/Nebby, watch the wallets
22. Wasn't referring to your impressions actually. Read impressions at Computer Audiophile. I barely go to that place because most of the stuff there is utter BS.
