Please go to back to your 1000 page thread at head-fi and leave us be.
  4. Sorry, I know nothing about the scope stuff, my friend did it for me. We only measured at the outputs, so low voltage. I am satisfied to the degree that my engineer friend said it looks good. I think he is pretty good but who knows. The amp works for now
  5. Sending love and good thoughts to you and yours

Sorry, but it's better than having to wade through the almost 1000 page LCD-2 crapstorm thread
  7. Ask Kevin, I am no expert. I will look at my board later though.
  8. Those are some beautiful phones, dude! I think you should call them the LOTR Thunderpants.

I only heard the rev1 for a short time in a store, so I don't have a lot of time with them. It was enough of a listen to turn me away from buying them. I had the HD800 and R10 along with me to compare. There was just too much of a bass bloat and the soundstage was quite restricted. It may have been the Musical Fidelity DAC/AMP, who knows. When I read about the changes, then I got interested again. After listening a few hours yesterday, I can say I like these better than the original. They have the best bass I have ever heard on a headphone. It goes super deep and is pretty tight. Will these supplant my other phones, never, but they are a great complement, exactly what I wanted. I mostly listen to Classical, so the HD800 and R10 will be the usual go to phones, but the LCD-2 is no slouch with Classical. It is just warmer and has a smaller soundstage, but is still quite pleasant tonally. And I haven't even changed tubes in the BA from the EML 300B and a Brimar 6SN7 I have been using. The LCD-2 may really shine with the PX4s which have a tighter/cleaner presentation than the 300B. I am also going to build a balanced cable to see if that changes anything.

They are quite tight on my head, serious clamp. I hope they stretch out a bit.

I caved in and got the new revision because it sounded like it addressed my problems with the original, a bit too dark and bassy. I will say that these are still very bassy, but what I was looking for as a compliment to all the super-detailed phones I have. I do think these are a step up from the first revision, but I only had a short time with them in a store on unfamiliar equipment. Really nice tone.
  12. We did manage to strip one nut.
  13. M3 nut goes on an M3 screw and i fogot to order washers from them so i used polycarbonate ones from Mouser. Look for M3 washer.
  14. That's where I got them, but mine were longer, wanted 15mm, but they did not have them so gave me 16mm for the same price since the lady on the phone told me they would be delivered in 7-10 days and they were late.
  15. Put a crappy little scope on the output and it looks great. Sorry Marc, my friend who we borrowed the good scope from fried a channel so no pics.
  16. Thanks all. Lil Knight said it is the first rev2 board up. I think a lot of the other people have to deal with case work, which I am so glad I did not. I'll stick a scope on it to make sure there are no oscillations.
  17. Hallelujah!! Here is our work shed. The amp is making music. I did say a serious prayer before I turned it on
  18. We are definitely going to do this very thoroughly. In the first build, wires got crossed The wiring work was certainly a chore, this time I did a lot more.
  19. Getting very close now, only sockets, pots, and knob to finish. I am so happy about completing it, I'm reluctant to turn it on and deal with the potential to sour my mood if it is not perfect.
  20. For sure, and that little section only had about 8 parts, compared to all the other sections that have a kajillion parts to choose from. Phew.
  21. Working PS now, seems like it was a bad solder joint on the 7812 ground pin.
  22. Thanks, I will do some seeking, maybe just replace the 7812 too.
  23. Yes, I remember it was said to stay away from the ST part, but I think Fairchild is all right? That's what I used in the first one. Edit: Actually, it was the 7912 from ST that was the problem.
  24. I guess you mean the 7812? It is a Fairchild.
  25. More progress today. Fired up the PS and all voltages are on except the +12v is +18.5v. The -12 is correct. I can't remember if this is wrong or not??
