Congrats on the recognition Wachara. You deserve it
Thanks Kevin, Birgir and Tyll for your collective efforts. It's really nice to see some measurements.
For my build I used mostly Vishay / Dale thick film. I suppose there are a couple of spots where I should spend a bit more and go with the IRC thin film. Size wise they were 1/4W 1206 and 1/8W 0805. Here are some sample part numbers (CRCW0805100RFKEA, CRCW1206300RFKEA)
Nice
I'm curious how you think this compares to the KGSSHV and the BH. I haven't been able to run the three side by side yet. I'm being lazy and I've got to move a bunch of stuff around since the KGST is stuck on my bench.
I've got both the KGSShv (+/-450V) and the KGST (+/-400V) up and running now. I haven't done any direct comparisons yet, but I will say that I could not stop listening to the KGST for the past week. It has really drawn me in.
I don't think you could wrong with either.
Great question. I'd like to do a single chassis 7" x 12" x 2". The Transform would be mounted on top in the back. I can fit everything, but wouldn't be able to do a delayed start for the HV. I'm giving it a good think though and might need to go just a bit deeper.
I got the other channel built. Came up just fine
I'm really loving the sound. I haven't compared it yet to the BH or KGSShv.
The width on this is 7". So far so good.
Thanks
This is a fun project for me. It will ultimately become my office rig.
Yes it was a challenge to get those transistors on (lots of magnification).
Runs pretty cool as well.
So I've been having some fun with this design. I've gone ahead and shrunk this thing way down. Each channel is 2" x 4.5". I've used some really small SMD parts so not for the faint of heart.
Here's the boards:
If you look at the bottom of the board (left center: R4 - U1) I've designed a servo based on the T2 style with an a twist since it needed to push/pull in the opposite direction. Q1 & Q5 are really small. Very proud I could solder them.
Here's some shots of the amp up and running. The PS is in the style of the KGSShv PS. It was an early prototype. I've got it set to +/-400V. I added a +/-15V with the transformer mounted to it. Nice and small and allowed me to use the Antek stock transformer.
The servo starts the amp at +3V and within 5 minutes has it down to less than 0.1V (see above). It stays nice and tight within about 0.02V once it settles.
I've had it on the scope. Very flat response from 10 - 70KHz (which is all I bothered measuring).
I had a chance to listen to the one channel. So far so good. Dead quiet and the sound seems to be there. Need the other channel to really tell.
All in all I'm very happy. No explosions and it does what I wanted. I'm going to try to build this into a 7" x 12" x 2" chassis. We'll see.
