Best SS-amp Today; Cost NO Object?
Dusty Chalk replied to Contrastique's topic in Headphone Amplification
I forgot about the need for balanced, I don't think it does balanced... ...but the M904 acts as a speaker configurator, and essentially has a M902 built-in, I wonder if the balanced outs will drive balanced headphones? They probably will. -
Best SS-amp Today; Cost NO Object?
Dusty Chalk replied to Contrastique's topic in Headphone Amplification
Yeah, that's true about most of the ones with the built-in DACs. I have to admit, I don't remember if I was listening to the internal DAC or not. But it deserves to be on the list -- it easily outshines several entries there. -
Wow. That was, like, lucid, and I even agreed with most if not all of it. Just wow.

I just remembered another one that no-one's mentioned yet -- the Grace M902. Has a built-in DAC, including USB. -
Yes, I have the page saved. The hard part (to play devil's advocate) would be to prove that I did not change it. I have a hypothetical question for y'all. This is obviously a no-win situation for Jena Labs. My question is, what is the absolutely best thing she can do at this point? My take on this is, she should admit guilt, refund his money, and go out of business (I.E. of the current jobs, offer any back to anyone who wants their work left alone, finish the rest, and stop taking on any more new jobs). I guess you can see why she'd be hesitant to do that. But really, she should start looking for other work. Also, what's the grapevine on Jena Labs relationship with Head-Fi -- is this another company that is "in bed" with Jude, like RSA? I'm only asking this because I'd like to know what sort of actions we should expect from Head-Fi -- so far, they've been pretty good about leaving the thread alone, neh? Welcome to head-case!

Jesus, man, when you fall off the wagon, you fall hard.
-
Uh oh, what did you take them out of?
-
Nice, that took, what? All of 13, 14 minutes?
-
I'm going to lock the thread just to spite you. You gave us, what? 33 minutes and 27 seconds to help you.

I've seen Transformers, which one was she, the mom? (wanders off, looks it up) Wait, she was the girl?!?!? She's not the hottest...well, that scene with her working on the car was pretty hot, but...meh...FHM must be run by a bunch of 18-year-olds or dirty old men.
-
This is how out of touch I am: Megan Fox tops FHM's Sexiest Women list, and I've never heard of her before now. Hey, where is that sparta5.gif from, whatever movie that is looks familiar.
-
That's because you haven't had to deal with him for more than all of three minutes. TODD!!! JACOB!!! I thought we were going to get rid of this guy!!!1!
-
Yeah, capacitors will do that.

Please...tell us more about this denial you are in. No, seriously, you can't preach it both ways -- you sound like on the one hand, you want to believe the opposite of what happened, but then you're also telling us to "wait and see" until we hear both sides of the story.

Best Tube Amp Today? Cost maybe an object
Dusty Chalk replied to fierce_freak's topic in Headphone Amplification
He's such a dufus. Earl's right -- Singlepower amps (the ones that I've heard, anyway) do not have the stereotypical "tubey" sound -- that's what makes them special. For that, he'd want a Wheatfield or a HAP-03 (either Radii or Moretto, one was just a clone of the other, I forget which was which). Or a Xiang Sheng, that's nice and tubey. -

I've heard the L3000's with the EarMax Pro, and I thought they had excellent synergy -- they actually were one of the few amps that fooled me into not hearing the slight midrange suckout at first. (Hirsch's, anyway, not sure which version he has.) -
Jesus. Nice save there, Alex. I'm definitely sending any recables to you. I mean, I can even tell from your story that that's not the reason you did what you did, you were just presented a challenge that you couldn't ignore. Huzzah and kudos.

800$ budget for a Headphones/Amp/DAC (Help the newbie)
Dusty Chalk replied to Cujo's topic in Headphones
M-Audio Sonica, which was the precursor to the Transit, is a step up from the internal soundcard in your laptop, but probably not as good as the Pico. M-Audio Audiophile is out of production, so if you want current technology, I'd just look around here. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of anything better until you jump up to the Apogee MiniMe or Duet (the latter of which requires an Apple...for now). But that's intended for a match with the CKIII -- I'd just go with the Pico. Pico's biggest competition (in my head), believe it or not, is the Musical Fidelity X-CANv8, which now has a USB option. But you'd have to check around for a bargain, because they are pushing your budget. But I haven't heard it, so have no idea if it comes even close to the Pico, it's just on my short list of items to hear. Plus, it requires external power, whereas the Pico, I believe, does not. -
Sexy? Pffft. It looks like a jumped up Wheatfield HA-2. No, wait, that is sexy. I need better pictures, man. And (groan) to the former.

The general secretary of the first church of nonsequiturianism evangelism approves of this message. Especially the avocado part.

SDS or Dragon The EarMax Pro that KG linked to Wheatfield HA-2 (not current production, but schematics are available) Blue Hawaii (but that's electrostatic) -
Yeah, except she lives in Oakland. And the nature of her work and lifestyle is such that she needs a car more than half the time.

Actually, wouldn't that be Stax Electro-shock therapy? And thanks for setting me straight -- makes perfect sense that they're different voltages.
