  1. Yeah -- you really don't need a Comp. Sci. degree to be a programmer -- taking a couple language classes should be sufficient. You really only need a Computer Science degree if you're going to be a computer scientist -- which, like, 1 out of every thousand of us really do. I happen to eat this stuff up, and it sounds like you might, too, but when anyone asks me what I do, I just say "computers...programming..." and don't go into the details unless I'm pressed, because I do know that it's boring to most others.
  2. That is correct.
  3. I actually really like the special effects in space -- they remind me of watching real astronauts when I was a kid. That and the fact that you can't hear rocket engines in space add a sense of realism and charm to the show.
  4. Meh, you're right. AMG had an incorrect release date. I've posted a correction. 4ad.com has it correct (I would presume). So say we all, samich, so say we all. Unfortunately, at this point, I don't think they'd have it in them -- too much time has passed, too much experience writing orchestral music, too many brain pathways burned in differently.
  5. My advice is to stay in school and take classes in what interests you until you figure out what really interests you, even if that means going back to academia -- remember, emotions are fickle, you may be having a lull in your affection for your job, but your feelings for it might return, as well.
  6. That sounds interesting -- impressions when you have them, please.
  7. All of them?

    Nice.
  9. Yeah, I believe Hirsch had one. It sounded great.
  10. How does one skin in vB on Firefox?
  11. I'm sure everyone is telling you this and you already know, but just in case you don't -- there's two versions of this, right? The older version is supposed to suck. Here's to hoping you got the non-sucky version.
  12. I haven't programmed it yet, but you might want to try Stylish -- there are some pre-written skins, and if you're a programmer at all, it looks fairly straightforward.
  13. Alan Moore's Lost Girls -- porn, basically. Extremely well-written, non-straight porn, but it's still porn. Not for everyone. Buffy Season 8 -- Kelley Armstrong -- caught up with the paperbacks of her Women of the Underworld series, starting "Exit Strategy". Very good, downright addictive.
  14. I sure wish you could communicate with as much clarity as you do confidence. Can't you give us a 30 words or less definition? Saying it's "about" something is not the same as saying what it is. PS If you have an essential book or something that you could recommend, I'll read it. (Don't start me with 10 -- start me with 1, maybe 2 max.)
  15. I said, "improvisational based", not "pure improv" -- one can improvise within a context or structure, and still improvise. I'm not arguing with Jacob yet...but I'm not ignoring him, either, I just need to know more.
  16. Wait, what?

Ran across this while googling for nude pictures of Rebecca Romijn:
  18. Gauisus Natalis.

    I think it's only a photoshop away.

Got this in the email from the mom-out-law (formerly, mother-in-law):
  21. Really? You think maybe the ones that don't sound good loud don't sound good because of their parts aging? Or are you saying that the whole "they don't sound good loud" part is a myth, entirely? Because one myth I have verified for myself is that the LS3/5a's don't sound good loud. That one's true.
  22. Doing a lot of buying, less selling, today, I hope.
  23. I think a better question is, "what's for dinner?" Yeah, I also wonder how he got from The Birth of the Cool to Bitches Brew, but he still managed to do it. One thing that all jazz has in common is that it is improvisational based. So if Kenny G's music is entirely composed before it's played, then it's not jazz, it's just instrumental music that's made to sound like jazz. The thing I like about jazz is not just the emotional impact -- although that is essential -- is the intellectual stimulation as well. It's really the best of both worlds. On the best jazz I've heard, you can almost get inside the person's head and 'hear' him composing on the fly. The ones that I admire most are the ones that are 'composing' faster than anything I can imagine (that doesn't necessarily mean playing faster, but they're anticipating what to play, and picking the perfect note or set of notes [or combination of notes and silences, to the pedantic] better than I can at that speed).
