No, but I had my badge from work still around my neck, but hidden in my pocket. Plus, I do boast that "typical Tower Borders employee" look. (Where do you think all the ex-Tower employees went?)
-
We have to be logged in over there to see those over here. Fail.

Yesterday I got hit on by an asian chick in Borders asking me for advice on symphonies. Either that or she thought I worked there.
-
Goddamn that's funny.

Yeah, I didn't really think that was the resolution. It's just that when I saw the pic and its tagline, I thought to myself, "man, things sure have changed -- I don't remember resolutions having anthropomorphic manifestations back in my day."
-
Bands/Artists you would love to see in concert for first time?
Dusty Chalk replied to JimP's topic in Music
Yeah, I thought that, too, but then I thought about post-Las Vegas Elvis, and I said, "nah". But yeah, pre-post-Las Vegas Elvis, maybe. -
That's a resolution? She's cute!

Pfff.

Awesome. No, wait a minute -- he's trying to trick us!!!1! It's that goldang Warner Bros. reverse psychology thing...

I just went to Headroom to see what the frequency responses told me. I refuse to believe that my hearing is that good. There's a huge upper midbass hump in the DT990, but it drops off just slightly faster in the bottom 5 Hz (from 20 Hz to 25 Hz). There's no way on earth I can hear that. I guess we'll see, when I hear them again. link
-
But don't you see? You just did it yourself. You compared a recorded performance against a live performance, just as a reference point.
-
Well, I admit, I didn't have them at the same time. But I'm pretty sure it was the new one, because dave1 bought them based on everyone's impressions on head-fi (they were described as DT880's with bass over there), and he lent them to me for several days, and I was completely underwhelmed with them. And all of this was very recent (like within the last year). I did not remember being underwhelmed with the DT880's (and that's saying something, as I like my bass -- I will only live without the bass if it does something else that I want extremely right -- like the K501's midrange). But I'll be getting my own pair, so will revisit this argument when I have more recent impressions.

Fortunately, most anyone with a brain knows not to misinterpret that game as "learning how to play guitar". That said, its premise hits me as "retarded" as well. Though I will not argue that as gaming talent, that guy has chops. There's a guy on another private board that's one of those top contenders. I mean, how would you fake that? It'd be easier just to memorize the "course".

I don't understand where you guys are coming from with this "bass light" and "shrill piercing highs" -- I thought the bass was nice and straightforward without being overwrought (like the DT770 -- which I will never argue is anything other than a basshead's cream-dream headphone). It certainly had better bass than the fucking DT990, I have no idea where that myth came from. And I remember it having nice highs -- certainly better than the HD600, although the Balanced Max rendered the two almost exactly the same, the DT880 was the better of the two. And it certainly isn't as sibilant as the DT770, which I agree will reveal the worst of any recording's predisposition toward being rendered sibilant. It's like we're listening to different headphones. Methinks you guys like to exaggerate to make a point.

I hadn't gotten my daily dose of irony yet today.

I really hate it when you-all get all fagpiley like that.
-
Well, maybe I'm thinking of something else...the sound I heard was pretty high-pitched for a fart.
-
Not true. I hate the ©Raptor, I like the DT880. I prefer the newer model to the older model, but I even remember liking the older model. Listened to it out of a Balanced Max with the Diamond buffers. Easily one of the best solid state headphone listening experiences. Buncha haters, uck-foo-yay to all o' ya.

You get wrapped up like a mummy instead of cut up with shards of metal and/or fiberglass. Win-win?
-
Hey, I have a question -- does the 4070 have the fart/squeak?
-
Welcome to Head-Case! And: you got that right.

I forget who said it, but the paraphrase goes something like this, "Anyone who desires to run for public office should be prevented from doing so." -- Douglas Adams, I think? Or maybe it's the reverse -- I'm not finding it right now. It was about the time that Zaphod Beeblebrox explained why he had two heads, I think. Not the Young Zaphod Plays It Safe story, though. Or, I could be completely wrong, and made it up myself. Though I doubt it -- I'm sure I'm not the first person to have had the sentiment. Mark Twain, perhaps...

Not the same target market, I don't think. The Bellari == mostly a phono preamp; listening to vinyl directly to headphones, with the ability to digitize it as bonuses; the Emu == the ability to digitize line level signals, but you still need a phono preamp. Neh?

Does any player do Flac Disc Images?
Dusty Chalk replied to aardvark baguette's topic in Portable Audio
Well, why don't you download VideoLAN and see if it works there (it's a multi-platform app, inc Windows), because from the looks of things, VLC4iPhone is just a port. -

I would think conversion to ALAC would be relatively painless. And if you want to learn how to program on the iPhone/iTouch, I'm sure you could get it to play FLAC disk images. FLAC, itself, has already been done -- I don't know if that includes disk images (it usually doesn't).
