Actually, it sounds more like she's breaking them in. My cat does the same thing -- she sits in my lap, then starts to slip off so that I have to catch her, and then after I catch her, settles down so that I have to continue holding her. She was rather disappointed the one time I let her fall off, and let me know by clawing her way back on.

Focal tend to have good speakers at every price point, I would definitely look there. What sort of listening space are you going to have? Nearfield? Loud? Why is there air? Floorstanders or 2.1? What is the meaning of life? Quad 12L + SVS sub OR Quad 21L would be another couple choices. I managed to snag my Shahinian Obelisks for less than a thou, but that's rare -- they usually go for more.
