  1. I think I know what your problem is -- are you using 'Windows'? No, seriously...what was the sound source before you put in the graphics card. The manual's not on here is it? Is it this one? Figures it'd have a pretty girl on the cover.
  2. (puts out a contract on deepak's life)
  3. Well, just based on the pictures, it's got that copper box which is probably acting as a mini Farraday cage. So...extra shiny.
  4. This is Tyll we're talking about -- of course. Team 'Hawaiian shirt or nothing'.
  5. Well...it would make sense...
  6. They were supposed to go on preorder...and supposed to...and supposed to...and then last week I got sick, and stopped checking...and then I remembered today, and it was finally up on the 4ad.com site, but listed as out of stock, and I have no idea if this is how they appeared, or if they were in stock for a day. Considering there were only 1500 copies (of the box set, that is -- not the individual SACD's), it wouldn't surprise me if they all got snarfed.
  7. So did anyone nab a copy? Looks like they're out of stock already, damnit.
  8. Oh. Well, never mind then.
  9. Quite simply, because it's all about synergy. The headphone/amp interaction will affect the sound more than your hearing, in cases. Here's something you can probably try -- connect it to a speaker amp. Any speaker amp, even BPC, will probably sound better than trying to drive it out of a dinky headphone amp.
  10. I find it ironic that the Big Joe's logo is the silhouette of a troll. Seriously -- I've heard some of the Firestone gear -- it's 'meh', nothing special, not terribly bad, not terribly good. Something along the lines of the Creek OBH-11.
  11. Okay, there's the problem right there. No-one's going to take your word for anything, because although you may have tried those headphones, you haven't really given them a chance. Yes, it is you can be having popcorn time.
  12. This week's deal: Cavalry 1TB external, eSata, $175
  13. I think my housemate would disagree. I have over one washerload of black Gold Toe Hamiltons (my everyday business casual socks). Think about that -- I have more than I could ever squeeze into the washer at one time. And no, that's not what I got this time. I got some Gold Toe fuzzies.
  14. The place where you plug-in LAME in EAC should be configurable to take anything, as long as there's a way to do it with a command line.
  15. Okay, thanks, that solves it then.
  16. Hey, a game that I can actually play without being killed in the first 5 seconds Let me know if you find any easter eggs.
  17. Another Mac question -- I fully intend to get a Mac Mini in the future. Should I pounce on the current Macheist deal (ends at midnight), Parallels for $49? Or should I just wait until I actually have said Mac Mini, and take the beating on the higher price? Or is there a version of VMWare player or something that I can use in its stead?
  18. I mildly prefer the Rykodiscs -- since he had a big hand in their remastering, himself -- I greatly prefer the bonus tracks. Plus, you know, Gold. 'Shiny'. Sound + Vision is another great box set to get; unfortunately there are multiple versions, only one with which I'm familiar. There are enough great tracks on there to get one started, and enough bonus tracks and alternate version to warrant keeping it after you start collecting the albums.
  19. Don't waste your time with anything else, just go straight to The Box Set.
  20. First of all, I didn't pay list price, by any means -- more like US$39.19 + tax. Secondly (I admit that's still expensive to anyone who isn't a huge fan), I'm a huge fan. I doubt anyone'd want to pay more than US$11.99 for the non-deluxe edition who isn't a huge fan. In fact, I doubt most of you'd have any use for more than the one song (maybe 'Anna', if you'd heard it). ...or then again, maybe not.
  21. What if it was in Ape?
  22. Those are some great pics!
