Billy, once you get out of jail, and you resume movie night, you may want to look into a good line-doubler -- who knows what sort of improvements you could get with regular DVD-level quality video. Oh, and if you want to attract the "midnight movie" crowd, can I recommend, "I Was a Zombie for the FBI"?

I'm a big fan of a well-implemented 2.1 system. I used to go Spendor S3/5a's w/ Sunfire True Sub Jr. The thing that was magical about that system was the continuous phase control (really just a micro-delay). Despite having completely different speeds, I could make the sub disappear by getting the phase right. So what I'm saying is, make sure that whatever you get has one of those. I believe SVS have them, not sure about HSU. What finish did you get again? I believe SVS have a shiny black that matches (or is close to) the Quad's shiny black. You'll have to ask humanflyz.

Tyll looks like he's giving the kiss of sweetness in that one pic. (French accent)"Ze crepes, zey were superb..."(/french accent)

I used to be a borderline shill when it came to the Quad L series. I was in the position of almost getting a pair, but then realized I'm heading in a different direction, speaker-wise (omni, etc.). I have to admit, the one time I heard them, they were positioned extremely well. (Several feet out from the wall.) So can't help you there. They were paired with a Manley Stingray, which wasn't as synergistic as I would have liked, considering that was the amp with which I was going to pair it at home.

What If I Were Looking For a Complementary HP for The 750..?

Did you take chemistry in high school? Might I suggest setting up a meth lab? -
Yeah, they're not really reviews so much as ad copy.

I laugh at the retardedness of others.

Does it matter? They're both RCA's, right? Or is it for labeling purposes?

Yeah, sorry, comment was actually directed at aRc.

I'd be interested...to hear other Californians' impressions.

I find the Balanced Max to be very neutral-transparent. I've heard it several times under meet conditions, and once in a more dedicated listening session. The current one with the diamond buffer was special, so if you search used, make sure you know which version you're looking at.

Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?
Dusty Chalk replied to Hopstretch's topic in Headphone Amplification
Is that true? I didn't think there is a 'too cold to start functioning', short of being so cold that any moisture in the vicinity instantly crystallizes and indirectly causes problems that way. Or too large a temperature gradient too fast, which might crack something. Which, admittedly, -50C would be. But I don't think the processor itself would have a problem with it. Is that what the overclockers are saying? I'll wander over there and look around, I'm curious what the reasoning is. -
I'm already taking Astelin, Nasonex, Allegra, and Sudafed. You know what sucks? I'm already maxed out on all of them (as far as the insurance company is concerned), so when I get sick, I can't up my dose.

Best place to shop for monitors?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Well, it's not just straight inches, it's also pixels. In fact, it's more pixels than inches -- the only reason I'd be getting the 30" monitor is because they're 2560x1600. So the question is, is 2500x1600 > 2*(1920x1080 or 1920x1200)? I presume that's the resolution y'all are recommending, right? Obviously, I haven't done the math yet, so here goes: 2500x1600 == 4 million 1920x1080 == 2+ million So yeah, it appears to be better. Glad I asked. Still wouldn't mind knowing the best place to shop for 24" monitors. Behardware, tom's hardware, anandtech, fredmiranda.net and other photography sites -- any others? -

Okay, but how's the amp? -
Huzzah, I hope he does.

Oh, great, you brought another acolyte. And you still sound like you're preaching. Well, good luck with that.

I'm perfectly happy with Monster XP for most of my systems; I use Cardas Neutral Reference on my one high-end system. -
Best place to shop for monitors?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Nope, going to pay for it myself. I just want the real estate. You do know what I do for a living, right? (I'm a programmer.) And you're right, there are about 5 different brands -- Apple, Dell, Samsung, HP, LG, Doublesight, NEC, and Eizo, looks like. (I'm sure some of those are rebranded from the others, but that's the sort of information I'm looking for.) (wanders off to do the math to see if this really is an option) -- I appreciate the suggestion, I will look into it seriously. But now I want a hot dog. And we do have a hot dog vendor on the corner. (wanders off to have a hot dog) -
First of all, congrats, should be nice. Secondly -- I don't remember if you've posted impressions of these, have you?

I'm looking into getting a 2560 x 1600 30" monitor or so -- what's the best place to look up these guys? I know how to google, but someone posted a couple of good sites to look up laptops, I was wondering if there was an equivalent site for desktop components -- Tom's Hardware? I mean, I know to look at things like contrast ratio and response time, but things like color temperature are so subjective, it'd be really nice to find a place where people have more experience with these things, because most of the local shops don't have much in the way of selection.
