  1. (used car advertiser voice) "You want to talk about visceral impact? I've got your visceral impact right (smacks self in chest) here. And in case the 'big one' comes, it doubles as a defibrillator."
  2. You crack me up.
  3. I'm an atheist, anyway. PS Here was my original response to this thread, which, in hindsight, would have been more...uh...something:
  4. Well, it's hard to listen to music if you're dead, being the reasoning here. Sound thinking.
  5. Okay, you are off the "gets me" list.
  6. not so good So, since a lot of us are old fogeys, I figured at least one of us would care.
  7. That's just wrong. You realize that says more about your ignorance of linux than it does about linux, right?
  8. You know, I almost did something like that. :-D
  9. I like the way you think. "What do you mean, North isn't that way? It is now!"
  10. Well, except that it's no longer his latest DIY project...
  11. I have a stupid question about Damascus steel -- real Damascus steel is the way it is because it's folded and refolded during the curing process -- which means that unlike most black knives, the portions that are black are actually black, rather than painted black. So here's the (extremely hypothetical) question -- could there be a way to get black metal? Truly black metal?
  12. 6 Katatonia B-sides from iTunes
  13. How about hollowing out an extremely dense and sturdy material until it's the right weight (the barn-parsec joke comes to mind)? Then you can do all sorts of funky things like put a wheel in it to give it gyroscopic effect, or an extremely off-center center-of-mass to give it a hopping effect, or an off-center butterfly weight, to give it a wobble, etc. Modular!

I fucking hated the fake science. I mean, if , how come she didn't know ? And the altered states stuff was just too much. I did like what they did with the location titles, although I was having flashbacks to Superbowls. I do heart Anna Torv, also, and John Noble was amazing -- he didn't "play" loose cannon, he just played his character, which happened to be a loose cannon. So -- wish I could like it more, but the pseudo-science was a big turn-off.
  15. The comics were great -- Ben Templesmith really outdid himself. I love what he did with color.
  16. FYI -- I've been getting good results using a one-two combination of Mac-the-Ripper for getting it off the DVD, and DVD Audio Extractor for getting the audio out of the .VOB files. I've been having some problems, and the one guy has been very responsive. And yes, it's from DVD's I own -- the bonus DVD's from the Depeche Mode sets, which is nice, because it's coming from a higher quality source material (48kHz and...uh, 24 bits, I think). But more importantly, all those bonus tracks I now have access to on my iPod. Converts to .wav, mp3, ogg and FLAC, amongst other options. DVD Audio Extractor also works directly with DVD's, although I haven't used it that way myself, yet.
  17. I lowered my triglycerides from 206 to 99. Yay me.
  18. Enabler.
  19. Pfff.
  20. I am by no means back, just passing through.
  21. Alti, Baro, Compass, digital? Nice! Suunto? Supposed to be good, IIRC.
  22. They're actually not that bright in real life.
  23. iPod Classic 160 refurb, black -- right around the time of the new 120 (I was pissed off at Apple for making it smaller). I've been spending most of my spare time (that time that I've not been spending here) ripping CDs. Jesus. That's a lot of fucking CDs.
  24. Notwist/Dosh -- Dosh surprised me with how good they were, since I had never heard of them before, and Notwist were as good as the last time I had seen them, which was 'very'.
  25. True Blood -- rocks. Very true to the books, which rock. Sarah Connor Chronicles -- very much enjoying this. Especially enjoying the incorporation of the mythology tangentially, such as having the doctor tell the story behind T2 from his perspective, things like that. Also like the taglines that the robots use, such as "Thank You for your cooperation", "we don't sleep" and "come with me if you want to live".
