WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE A HARD DRIVE IN YOUR FREEZER?!?!? I can't believe this many posts have gone by with no-one asking that question.
-
I don't own one, but I've looked at a friend's. The electronic paper technology is entirely different to look at than LCD/LED technology -- much less fatiguing. I would love to have access to that kind of technology for some of the papers I read without having to print them out.

If you could live anywhere in the US where would it be and why?

I already answered that: Texas. And yes, it does get hot in Texas. A girl I was fond of wrote me from there. Her impression: "it's hot". -
I give up. I just wrote them and asked. (This does not preclude someone else asking on one of the Twisted Pear threads.)

I have a friend who spent a good deal of time in Phoenix. He said you could basically point a camera in any direction blind-folded and get a good shot. (I presume you mean nature.) I guess it depends what you like to look at. -
Because Sony charges too much to do native DSD? I'm not sure if this applies to DAC chips. Except that it says that the Hyperstream DAC is a 32-bit DAC, which pretty much tells me that they're converting it to PCM. Don't you think? (Not being sarcastic, honest question.)
-
Exactly. Which is why I left it off of this list. I believe the Sony that's being discussed in the other thread (XA5400S) also does DSD across HDMI. As to whether or not it does "indigenous" DSD, the product sheet doesn't say. It hints at it (that it does), in the block flow diagram, but the fact that it does the jitter reduction and "hyperstream DAC" after that would indicate to me that you are correct. It could be just shorthand (for two different streams handled similarly), and heck, it might even be a more DSD-type DAC than a PCM-type DAC. Unlikely, though. Hard to tell. Will have to do more research. EDIT: Well, no, it also says right in the product sheet that the Hyperstream DAC is a 32 bit DAC, so you're right, it's converting it to PCM. So I agree with your conclusion -- that trying to keep the DSD stream as DSD is an exercise in futility.

Do you really have a view like that? 's'nice. EDIT: Are you that blurry fog on the left, or the visible house on the right? -
Oingo Boingo on random Who Do You Want To Be? Grey Matter Country Sweat etc.

Unhacked? Yes, I see problems. Most of the information here is correct. There are a couple of proprietary interfaces, but most of them are from the same company: Pioneer player -> Pioneer receiver Denon player -> Denon receiver dCS transport ( -> dCS upconverter ) -> dCS DAC Those are the only ones I know of. MSB has hacked digital outs of players for their proprietary network-based transport/DAC combinations, but that's all PCM. I'm sure there's someone doing it for DSD, but I haven't heard of it yet. It's probably on the down-low.

Great, now do you have one for straight, available, attractive women? ...oh, who am I kidding, I only need one. -
(avoids making a "favorite headache" joke) Cool!
-
Hey, can you look and see if they say how they were mastered? If they were mastered in PCM (96/24, presumably), I think I'd be better off going with HDTracks. I have a couple of the SACD's, but never got around to getting all of the ones I wanted.

Is ^ that ^ from Reaper?

Does anyone else care about this besides me?

Probably the weakening of the US dollar. I used to be able to pick up Aurum Cantus speakers for cheap, and now I'm kicking myself that I didn't.

I don't know, it's sort of "hit top" with that, don't you think? Silicon Valley, in particular, is petering out. I would consider living there, it's really nice. Every time I visit my sister in San Francisco, I think, "I want to move here", it's that nice. -

My favorite place on the planet that I've ever been to is Hawaii, but it's too expensive to live there, so wouldn't recommend it for your situation. But I bring it up, because you want to compare the cost of living to where you are now -- you need to know if it's going up or down. Second choice is San Diego area (by which I explicitly include as far North as Encinitas) -- cost of living is not that different from DC, so would be a serious consideration for me, were I in your shoes. Third choice would be the bay area (San Francisco/Berkeley/Menlo Park/etc.). Sister already lives there, so that's a plus. For me. Heck, might be for you, too, who knows. Me, personally, I'd have to travel around a bit, first. I have really bad allergies, and don't know if the constant wind from off the ocean would be conducive or destructive to my symptoms. My allergist explicitly told me that I need to move to the desert, so I'd have to try that, too. None of this affects you, but since you are in a position to do so, I still think the conclusion applies -- move around the country a bit, try some places you like. I'd miss access to the big city if I moved away from anywhere near a big city. PS My favorite big city is NYC. PPS Most of the hottest girls I've met are from Texas. I forget if you're married/straight. -
One would think, yes.

No idea, haven't heard one. But if they're as hard to track down as the 12L actives were, it won't matter.

So the GM70 has a name now? Is it available, in any way, shape, or form? And yes, I remember that post. "Frank Cooter" and "3 box headphone amp" have been on my radar ever since.
