  1. SMFF I'm sure there's a proverbial bouquet of fora about flora, though, which is how I initially read that.
  2. grawk could put it in, for a price.
  3. If (dellBox.scratchAndDent) { System.out.println (scratchAndDentHdr); System.out.println ("Scratch & Dent"); // what was I gonna write, "yes"? }
  4. Do you already have an iPhone? If no, then dew et. If yes, then quitcher bitchin'.
  5. I don't know, Nate, I wouldn't necessarily rule out a system ($489, Intel Quad Core, 6G memory, 750G hard drive, Vista pre-loaded -- it's too bad they won't forego the operating system...but who knows, they might...doesn't hurt to ask...).
  6. It's really hard to compete with something like this. Or wait for PacificGeek to put up another 3.4GHz machine. Right now, they have a Dual Xeon 2.8 up. If you think you can put together a system even with scavenging parts, good luck with that. I intend to put a computer together, but I understand it's a losing prospect -- I'm doing it more for the learning experience than anything else. I can't believe I've never put together a computer for myself before. It's funny how when one is spending one's own money, things are different. (I've done it for work before.) What's dying, the motherboard? Is it just out-of-date/underpowered? I would monitor some of the deal sites (dealigg, digitaldeals, etc.), either way. I've seen both prefab systems and parts. But none of the sites seem to monitor MicroCenter, so you may have to monitor that one yourself (and if you need anything from them, and don't have one close to you, I have two close to me -- the Beltway/MD one, and the VA one).
  7. In all honesty, that's still a good value on those <10 song/album dealios (especially if it's <7; and it's not just new age -- some ambient, experimental, drone, and doom metal albums also worked out that way...if that kind of music interests you [which it does me]). I might get some less decent values this last iteration, and then work out exactly how many more of those I want, buy the booster pack, and be done with it.
  8. Snow Leopard was announced as "Summer 09" in summer 08.
  9. Electrets are like electrostatics, except they're passively charged -- I.E. one needs to play music through them to charge them up.
  10. Yeah, I'd be curious as well -- please do report back.
  11. If I fell asleep and woke up with those cables on my chest, I'd probably have a heart attack. I had a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt that did that to me once. I woke up and promptly teleported about 2 yards from where I was, all the while slapping myself in the chest and screaming "get it off me, get it off me!" I have never laughed at myself so hard in my entire life, before or since, once I realized what was going on.
  12. Overslept. Fed Kitty. Consumed caffeine. Drove to Dogfish Head. Had a "Lawnmower" (lowest ABV on the list -- quite good, nice, light, summery ale) and "Big Kahuna Burger". And I was supposed to work this weekend, so I'll probably be pulling an all-nighter.
  13. x2 (except in my case it was only for a few months) -- thanks for bringing this to my attention, Carl. Any idea when the price change kicks in? I'm presuming they'll let me know before they charge my card? Or should I just cancel now while the canceling is good? EDIT: Okay, looks like July, so I'll let the current refresh go through, and then cancel.
  14. Do you use them just for video? So that makes Parasound's choice to use them for I2S even more questionable?
  15. I doubt it, Snow Leopard was announced a year ago.
  16. Damnit, I knew there was another Monk title I missed...
  17. Inspired by this story: ...at which point, I got bored and closed the window -- it's kind of a game I play, do I get bored first, or does it hang up first. It was close at the "kill" comment -- there was a long pause.
  18. Yay! Can I uninstall everything?
  19. Change the voltage. It'll make it easier to resell. Then buy a BHSE anyway (use credit, stimulate the economy).
  20. A reference to Pulp Fiction (she is not being sarcastic): This is an actual letter from an Austin woman sent to American company Proctor and Gamble regarding their feminine products. She really gets rolling after the first paragraph. It's PC Magazine's 2007 editors' choice for best webmail-award-winning letter. EDIT: Apparently, it's real: link
  21. It's called "bloat", and Microsoft -- because they are the biggest company -- needs to be particularly sensitive to it, because the more code is there, the more there is to exploit, and IE8, in particular, is particularly prone to being exploited. Yes, that's right, even if you don't use it. PS I use linux. So don't yell at me for being a hypocrite, 'cuz I ain't.
  22. Bunch o' Telarc ('n'such) SACD's from Concorde Music Group.
  23. Sweet. Thanks, Jack.
  24. I'd rather not have it there if I'm not going to use it.
