I think the thing to do is to see if there is already enough discussion in various subforums that merit merging into a new subforum. I.E. don't create the subforum to see if the discussion exists, see if the discussion exists to create the subforum.

My only thought is, are you sure you can make your room dark enough for a plasma? They don't go as bright as anything else. I personally prefer plasma, but can't recommend it if you don't have room-darkening shades.

Also, the ...Harbeths? ...that were recently discussed elsewhere, as a Poor Man's Quad 11L. Almost any 2 way will "need" a sub -- the 12L doesn't need a sub except for synthesizers, organ, acoustic bass, etc.

Best I've ever owned was A3^CR pre/power combo. I have yet to try the Manley Stingray. Only other amp I tried it with that I've owned was the Jolida JD102B, which was meh -- wasn't bad, but wasn't good. Ditto AudioValve RKV w/Impedanzer. No, wait, I also tried it with the Kenwood microsystem, wasn't bad. My mom loved it, but I wasn't willing to part with the Kenwood when I gave her the K1000's. Best I've ever heard was Canman's Pass Labs -based rig. Also heard very very good sound out of tuberolled ASL MG Head (!) and Singlepower ... PPX, I think? Might've been MPX. You'd have to ask Hirsch. Whichever one he has. It's all in the tubes -- if you get the right tubes, that changes everything.

So it's a mixed mode operating system, you can direct it to perform 32-bit or 64-bit operations, at a high level? That's some pretty fucking awesome.

I'm not sure I agree that there's a difference between "bias" and "established preference". I have an established preference for a certain "cleanliness" of sound, and another one for tube distortion. And I will be the first to admit that it's a bias. I think it's more important to let people know what my biases are, than to claim some sort of approximation of knowing good sound on some sort of absolute scale. Sure, there are a lot of common denominators, but look at the number of people who like Sennheiser's HD600/HD650 sound (I'm beginning to think that this is what dreadhead describes as the standard "diffuse field" response?) -- I don't like it, so I'd like to know upfront whether or not a reviewer I'm reading likes that sound or not.

I love the drumming in the original studio version, I don't care if the drummer himself doesn't. Rick Wakeman has also turned his back on the genius of Tales..., which is one of my favorite albums by them. And yes, I meant the songs, not the albums. Black Sabbath -- I can't listen to those guitar solos any more without thinking of Spinal Tap.
