  1. Okay, that was great, you definitely have a gift for putting things in a way that I can understand. (I'm still not sure I understand Dan's compatability comment, but I'm not going to ask him now, since he's probably drunk off his rocker. And I haven't gone off and tried to figure it out on my own yet.) Now do me...er...you know what I mean, translate what I was trying to say for Dan & co.. But...although I agree that when the "top" 16 bits are 0x0000 or 0x0001 (sticking with positive values), that the lower 8 bits would make no difference, it's when the values are 0x7FFF and so on that they would have a cumulative effect on the sound.
  2. Babelfish say, "Flippig". Any real Germans want to confirm/deny?
  3. Congratulations!
  4. Please let us know how it changes your listening experience once you've settled in to the new sound.
  5. I love when that happens.
  6. Newcleus!
  7. Wow. I wonder if the Minipods are significantly bigger than the Micropods. I had gotten the impression that they were full-size speakers, now I'm not so sure.
  8. Well, I just medicated Bobby for the first time yesterday, and it was as easy as getting the pill past his tongue, getting bitten in the process (but not enough to break skin), and then watching him struggle with swallowing it (!).
  9. No. Headphone fest.
  10. C? RMHP&ESF?
  11. Since when has MFSL had its own cartridge? PS Try this.
  12. The DS1's might still work, though, neh? By tilting the speaker, you're moving the center of gravity over to a more stable area. I guess it depends on the speaker.
  13. The 12LA's aren't that big, are they? I've not heard the Scandyna's, but the reviews of the Minipod Passives were pretty positive across the board when they came out as the Blueroom Minipods (as designed by former members of B&W). They're still on my wish list, but you should probably check out the dimensions of both the Scandyna and the Quad, I suspect they're closer than you think.
  14. For Elephas (see #2)
  15. I'm guessing he backburnered them until (a) he could figure out the magnetic-waves-drives-wearer-crazy problem (or a.5 find out a way to drive them crazy in a way that spends more money on ribbon speakers); and ( concentrating on the speaker thing. He's probably mulling over the first problem in the back of his mind, but not devoting any intentional clock cycles to it. Is there an equivalent to the Faraday cage, except for magnetic waves? I was also considering suggesting to him to try it on a significantly smaller scale, to reduce the problem by sheer scaling down of the cause of the magnetic waves -- say, IEM's, but where the ribbons themselves don't go into the ear. (But you don't want to make them too far from the opening, as I'm sure that will cause its own share of problems, acoustically.) Sanity check?
  16. Amazon.com: Actron CP7875 PocketTherm Infrared Thermometer: Automotive See the Ghost Hunter's handbook under "frequently bought together" ... so apparently, this is the infrared thermometer of choice...for nutcasejobs!
  17. I noticed that smartNate had the same approach to mistakes that a certain drummer friend of mine had -- if he made a mistake, he repeated it, so it would seem like it was done on purpose. He was universally regarded as an amazing drummer. Nate smart!
  18. Except that the notes in the description explicitly state that it's an ode to Roger Corman (Hammer Films).
  19. Mmm...iron.
  20. I'm probably getting a pair of Stradas for a 2.1 system, which will eventually expand to a 4.1 system. It's basically a Reference 3.1 less the bottom-most driver (wasn't sure whether to call it a woofer or a subwoofer, but...you know what I mean).
