  1. I completely disagree with you on the Special 25's -- I own them, will keep them, and they've made me smile for many an hour.
  2. It's the Flying Dutchman's aquarium! Pretty colors.
  3. closed == want == wishlisted
  4. The stands I have actually bounce.
  5. I'm having a harder time with this one, but see my post in the Moving To Monitors thread, some of the information still applies (esp. Focal/JM Labs & Dali).
  6. JM Lab? (Note misspelling -- when searching, I tend to try all of: Focal, Jmlab, jm lab, jmlabs, jm labs.) I haven't heard those specific speakers, but I'm a big fan of the company, they have stuff in pretty much every price bracket that's a darn good value (well, I wouldn't call the Utopia line "a good value", but...whatever). See also: Dali. And the Quad L & L2 lines. Also Dynaudio, and they have active speakers used for studio stuff. I would try to get a local dealer so that you can hear them -- buying speakers is an extremely subjective and personal decision. Specifically, I loved my little Spendors, but they didn't go loud well. I don't usually listen loud, but for those few occasions when I do, I would like my speakers to be able to hold up (the Spendors got compressed and distorted -- really only good for nearfield listening, but that was this specific model).
  7. Not That There's Anything Wrong With That.
  8. I was just tired of saying 'NTTAWWT', so I thought I'd channel Stuart Smalley for a change. Vampires, on the other hand, suck.
  9. An Imeem playlist of Abakus tracks. PS Found this interesting: For those who have images turned off, it says A Fine Frenzy, new album, Bomb ina Birdcage available 9/8...hey wait, that's today!
  10. What Operating System? Version? Browser? Version? Linux/Ubunutu/latest, Firefox/3.5.2 here, works fine for me. I use http://mail.google.com/mail/ as my bookmark, try that.
  11. Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, Days of Mars -- time told -- this is by far my most frequently listened to album from 2005, from 2006 to the present. Classic old school arpeggiator-driven trance-y synth stuff. Very Tangerine Dream-y.
  12. That's too bad, because a lot of progressive rock songs would meet your "long song" criteria.
  13. Condolences. Hooray!
  14. The only issue -- and it's a minor one if the intended is going to place the main unit in a well-ventilated area -- is that having the transport and the power amp in the same box can sometimes cause heat issues. Never a problem for us that care about our gear, but frequently an issue with mundies. So the intention is CDP->integrated-> passive speakers or CDP -> pre -> active speakers? And expecting reasonably high bandwidht bookshelves, as opposed to a really nice pair of bookshelves and a sub later? Nearfield listening, or full room? How loud? Type of music?
  15. Dude, I could listen to stuff like that all day and never get tired of it. Thanks for posting that description.
  16. [running gag]Have you had your wisdom teeth pulled?[/running gag]
  17. First of all, welcome, sorry about your thin skin, &c. Nice to see you here. I pretty much agree with your assessment -- Out of Myself being my favorite as well, but loving every album by them. I actually had not listened to them in a while when I got and heard ADHD, so I really liked it, but didn't realize how much softer it was than previous releases. I really dig the second album. And yes, definitely: RIYL Porcupine Tree. I need to put all four on my iPod.
  18. Exactly. I'm kind of surprised that it's a concern -- I mean, he's willing to live with the guy, but not to trust him with his network/computer? OTOH, it's also possible that the hacker might be external, have hacked into the roommate's computer, and tried to access your friend's computer from the local machine, which is sometimes easier (but less so if they're independent -- the problem is usually because they're set up by the same administrator).
  19. White Willow, Ex Tenebris -- a nice album, does not even hint at where they would go by the time they get to Storm Season, though.
  20. [snarky-troll]So you totally ruined the sound and made the room ugly?[/snarky-troll] I.E. post pics and impressions
