  1. Condolences. Hooray!
  2. The only issue -- and it's a minor one if the intended is going to place the main unit in a well-ventilated area -- is that having the transport and the power amp in the same box can sometimes cause heat issues. Never a problem for us that care about our gear, but frequently an issue with mundies. So the intention is CDP->integrated-> passive speakers or CDP -> pre -> active speakers? And expecting reasonably high bandwidht bookshelves, as opposed to a really nice pair of bookshelves and a sub later? Nearfield listening, or full room? How loud? Type of music?
  3. Dude, I could listen to stuff like that all day and never get tired of it. Thanks for posting that description.
  4. [running gag]Have you had your wisdom teeth pulled?[/running gag]
  5. First of all, welcome, sorry about your thin skin, &c. Nice to see you here. I pretty much agree with your assessment -- Out of Myself being my favorite as well, but loving every album by them. I actually had not listened to them in a while when I got and heard ADHD, so I really liked it, but didn't realize how much softer it was than previous releases. I really dig the second album. And yes, definitely: RIYL Porcupine Tree. I need to put all four on my iPod.
  6. Exactly. I'm kind of surprised that it's a concern -- I mean, he's willing to live with the guy, but not to trust him with his network/computer? OTOH, it's also possible that the hacker might be external, have hacked into the roommate's computer, and tried to access your friend's computer from the local machine, which is sometimes easier (but less so if they're independent -- the problem is usually because they're set up by the same administrator).
  7. White Willow, Ex Tenebris -- a nice album, does not even hint at where they would go by the time they get to Storm Season, though.
  8. [snarky-troll]So you totally ruined the sound and made the room ugly?[/snarky-troll] I.E. post pics and impressions
  9. That scene @ 0:07 was just so obviously fictitious, it just threw me out of the movie. Wait a minute,
  10. Isn't that the Cranberries chick? How is that?
  11. Porcupine Tree, The Incident -- better rip
  12. I believe this is a new record for us -- it was derailed by the OP.
  13. Or just listening to without being distracted by the vocals/lyrics.
  14. It probably just needs refreshing, and there probably is no way to force it to do so.
  15. Is 'unexplainable' even a word? I always though it was 'inexplicable'.
  16. Ooh, I like this new trend of instrumental versions of disks (Dream Theater also did so on their most recent).
  17. Because we are safe in the knowledge that he will do whatever he wants to, anyway. It's just advice, and worth what he paid for it. You keep bringing up that "if" statement -- I think you've figured out the problem, in that the other cable may not be built correctly, or may not be built to spec.

    Very nice!
  19. He's too subtle & refined for us, I didn't catch it until the second pass. Dick and fart jokes = profit! -- paraphrase of Kevin Smith via Holden McNeil's grandmother.
  20. LOL @ "...powerless..."
  21. And that's exactly why I think he should state something.
  22. Kitty litter, 5-HTP
  23. I would say that if an aftermarket cable is used, and is not correctly made, then you will not be held responsible for any damage that may result.
  24. Not necessarily, less felt could equal more reflections causing cancellation == less bass, but I could see it going either way. I would definitely try swapping the drivers if you want a definitive answer. But that might entail cutting the wires, so filling in the gap might actually be easier. If you're talking about being really really picky, (a) well hell, you're in the right place now, then, aren't you? ( ...that would make a really really picky bit of difference, so the scale of problem to solution is right.
