(raises hand) My dad taught me to respect his gear (I forget the kind of speaker -- yes, singular -- but it had a tweed grill), especially the hot tubes on the Heathkit. On the other hand, a damn good turntable was destroyed during my high school years by another kid of a similar age at a party leaving a drink on the turntable while it spun round.

No, unfortunately. Thanks, I'll be off for the next hour or so.

Please do keep me apprised of that, I think I would prefer high-res a la Ghosts than vinyl.

So does that stuff become the property of Koss? Is there a chance in hell of any of that shit getting auctioned off to compensate them? Fashion trends tend to move much more quickly than that, I do honestly believe that they are all going to be devalued somewhat (even tainted by the scandal itself -- although from a charity perspective, their value might also get inflated, so I think those two cancel each other out, leaving only "time" as the primary devaluing factor), but not completely, only partially.

I used to live in a smaller room than that, and it had a 7 foot ceiling (rather than the traditional 8 ) -- these are only 6.5 feet tall, they'd fit. And the line array should make them sound half decent. You just wouldn't be able to do anything else.

Yeah, the HEV70 is definitely the weak link there. But I still look forward to your Orpheus/HD800 comparison. EDIT: Meant as a confirmation of morphsci's post, directed at John Willett, but apt towards Deadneddz as well. Yes, definitely look forward to ebun moar betr sound.

I would think the page wouldn't still be up if it weren't. -
Too cold to snow here right now, but it's freakin' windy. Last night (I looked it up): "Was: 17; Felt like: -1". Is: 24; Feels like: 8.

You just descirbed Twilight and New Moon, I believe (this coming from someone who hasn't seen either).

Swallow the Sun -- yeah, kind of hard to follow Plague of Butterflies, but I still dig it. Yeah yeah, I know it's metal with cookie monster vocals, but I still love it. The Gathering -- you know what, I am not new to the Gathering, but this album still rocks. Love the preponderance of instrumentals, I do think that is one of their strengths -- the first time I saw them live, they played a track called Vermillion (I think) that was about 30 minutes of them jamming. Diablo Swing Orchestra -- no, it's not you, the album isn't as consistent as their previous, but the high points are still very strong. Epica -- not my favorite album by them, but still head and shoulders of so much else out there, they only pale when compared to themselves. Norah Jones -- only heard this once so far, but I definitely dig it, despite it not being my usual cup of tea. Regina Spektor -- very strong release, more mature than previous efforts, and resultingly more cohesive. And some additions: Katatonia, Night is the New Day -- I love these guys so much, they write all the music and cover all the touchpoints that I love so much. It's not hard enough to be metal, and it's too metal to appeal to the hard rock fans, but guess what? That's me, pretty much. Steven Wilson, Insurgentes -- technically not a 2009 release, but I don't care, I didn't hear it until then, mostly because the commercially available version didn't come out until February -- Steven Wilson doing a lot of non-Porcupine Tree-ish things, I dig it. Porcupine Tree, The Incident -- one of the harder albums they've done, and has a cohesiveness that I haven't heard, and doesn't have a weak point on it, though its strong points don't quite live up to previous peaks ("Anesthetize", "Arriving Somewhere Not Here"). The climax suite of "Octane Twisted"/"The S

Definitely. One of the highest fidelity concerts I've gone to (excluding classical) after Dead Can Dance was Cocteau Twins. Will be checking it out, somehow.

I really need to pick that up on vinyl, I love that album. Probably my favorite album by him.

I think that Invicta that I pm'd you is "Muddy Water Blue".

What? You know, he spends about half the movie just staring at her. I think it was this one: Hulu - In Character With: Joseph Gordon-Levitt of 500 Days of Summer@@AMEPARAM@@http://www.hulu.com/embed/ksVVPJ92lJI9ZrhzxRNqQQ@@AMEPARAM@@ksVVPJ92lJI9ZrhzxRNqQQ ...about 1:27 he mentions it (he doesn't mention "half", but after watching it again recently...alright, I'm exaggerating). I definitely think both were very great, excellent casting on both parts. She does a lot more than look pretty. Look at I think it was day (282) when they flash-forward to Ikea, then flash back to the first time in Ikea. Her expression just says it all.

Hey, you never know when you need to be jetted to a covert ops mission. You have to be ready. Funny story: my bud and I were looking through a watch magazine...alright, I was, he was making fun of me, when we got to a watch that was entirely black except the date. He starts in with the Spinal Tap, "...does it get any more black than that? The answer is..." at which point I interrupted him and covered up the numbers with my finger and said, "well, yes, you could get rid of the date, or show the date in black or something..." Totally ruined the moment for him. I kill me. Yeah, Monkey turned me on to it several weeks back. Nordstrom's, I think he said. Tx == Timex, BTW. I hadn't realized that at the time. <-- that's me holding the watch up to my face trying to read the dial. It is very high on my wish list. Along with this Citizen: ...this Oris: Amazon.com: Oris Men's TT3 Chronograph Black Dial Watch #674 7611 7764RS: Oris: Watches ...this Invicta if I can track it down: Amazon.com: Invicta Men's II Collection Power Reserve GMT Edition Stainless Steel Watch #6280: Watches ...and this Omega (which isn't entirely black, for some reason) : ...as well as a few others (another Bathys, another Ocean7, probably a custom job)...

Power Out > Axes > everything else, but all worthwhile. I think. Shit. Now I gotta go back and listen to everything again.

I didn't think blue did anything for extension, but it tightened it up some. I thought you wanted red for sheer quantity. Gold or brown are good, too.

What?!?!? No. Incorrect. If there's nothing else you should learn here, it's that once you get beyond a certain threshold, you get into the realm of personal taste more than "more" or "less" better.
