Nice review, I agree with most of your points, especially about tonal balance. I think I disagree on comfort, but I've never had them on my head for 2 hours. My biggest disappointment actually has nothing to do with these phones -- it's the fact that since they discontinued the K1000, these are supposed to be their top-of-the-line headphones, and as such, are...disappointing. A company's top-of-the-line headphones should be pretty damn good..."statement"... Actually, I thought that was basically the difference between the pro and the home version, when those came out...? I'll have to find my email from Jan (Meier)...

I'm a Beyer fan, and first of all, I disagree with the lack of midrange comment. Recessed, yes; "none to speak of", no. Maybe after you've been numbed to midrange by Grado headphones shoving it in your face all the time... Secondly, in answer to the original question -- no, I've not heard them, but I don't understand the appeal, and am not at all drooling to try them, though in all fairness, I should still hear a pair. The DT770's are fine for what they are, I'd be surprised if the changes really rendered an overall improvement. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm skeptical. I suspect it's a flavor-of-the-month thing again, over there.

They're amazing live. Tight as a mosquito's butt. Think Chili Peppers meets Rush meets John Zorn...or think of something else, because I just choked on that one a little bit.

Just got back from seeing VNV Nation and And One at the 9:30 Club -- right in the middle of some banter, Ronin said, "don't listen to that guy on Head-Case, he's full of shit." And then a girl who had just turned legal offered to have sex with him after the show, and someone threw him a leprechaun. "Standing" is still my favourite song by them, but "Genesis" is up there, too. He has such a great voice compared to so many others in the genre (the Arnold-Schwarzeneggar-alike Austrian or German accent is de facto in EBM the same way growling is in metal), and such a great stage presence (he basically carries the show, with lots of help from the drummer, although it would suck if they skimped on the other two synthesists), that they really are great live. And for once, the audience in DC didn't suck! (Usually they just stand around mopeful.) And One were awesome live, too. They promised to come back next year and play a two-and-a-half hour set. I hope they do, I did not get enough of them by a long shot.
