AKG K340 electrostat-dynamic impressions/pictures
Dusty Chalk replied to deepak's topic in Headphones
Well, considering Peter Walker and David Patching are British, and that the google cache of their web page reads: , and since I believe the design team is still British, and since the Quad sound epitomizes the British sound, I would have to say that they're still prototypically British. Maybe I'm just fooling myself. Not that there's anything wrong with that (being Chinese). Aerius -- it's not sleep we'd be getting. -

It'd be funnier if you could end the loop earlier, so she's just miming the ol' in'n'out over and over again. -

He was (kinda) kidding (hence the smilie) -- Quad are, indeed, a UK brand, but they outsource quite a bit to China. That said, I second his statement -- I've seen some very good stuff come out of China. Isn't ASL Chinese? I'm pretty sure my Radii is Chinese...double-checked, they're out of Hong Kong. I wouldn't worry about it. -
Okay, never mind, fixed that (aptitude is the bestest!), but now it wants the source code for the kernel, so I got that package, too, but I can't seem to find it on my system...do I want the package, and if so, where would have aptitude put it; and if not, what do I want (ubuntu with gnome, presumably breezy)?
-
Okay, so I start installing packages willy-nilly, and I get to this: Package: cpp-4.1 Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libc6 So I try to install libc6, and I get: Package: libc6 Status: Error: a later version is already installed WTF? I guess I'll try uninstalling libc6 and reinstalling it, but seriously...

Argh, I've lost my 1680x1050 resolution! How do I get it back with my PNY GeForce 6200?

I will check out Amarok. Not on my machine.

So since there was no option to click, it wasn't installed. So I did a little googlin', and I found out how to do it from the live CD, and voila, I am now (e)speaking to you from my computer via linux. I'm a happy boy (happy boy!), I'm a happy boy (he's a happy boy), oh ain't it good when things are going you way, hey hey. Hubba hubba hubba hubba hubba.
-
Ah, you're right, I did mix the two up. There was no option to click.

Alright, I'm trying to install Linux (Ubuntu 6.06) on my admittedly ancient (by Borg standards) computer (Sony Vaio PCV-RX550/-7732). After the install (I let it wipe the disk [200G Seagate Barracuda]), Grub comes up and says "Error 18". So I think what's going on is that the Bios can't handle the large disk drive, but if I'm reading this page correctly, they want me to shrink my root partition down to 512M? That don't seem right -- the installer won't let me even shrink it down that small...

Good enough, anyway. Thanks for saying something before I started complaining about the lack of black.

How much difference does cables make in your system?
Dusty Chalk replied to deepak's topic in Audio Accessories
Cables make about as much difference as subtle EQ. I pretty much agree with 909's response, except I think it's too safe, I'd go just a bit further -- the response applies to most cables, but if one were to compare, for example, the most extremely bright cables with the darkest, I think the differences would be audibly different. For example, my Pure Silver Sound Quartets are audibly superior in the upper frequency band to most every other interconnect I've tried...in my system. I need to track down a pair of balanced silver interconnects for cheap. It doesn't have the midrange to die for that my Cardas Neutral Refs do, but it's got more air and detail than anything else I have by far. Still my favourite response: -
I, too, know nothing on the subject -- but there are a couple of very knowledgeable guys on audiokarma.org -- post in the DIY section.

It works better if you ground it, so you'll need to run a wire from whatever you tape up to the sole of your foot, and then keep your feet planted on the ground. Also, the tape would need to be continuously connected.
