  1. My favourite non-tube amp is the Creek OBH-11SE -- I've heard that the current version is as good (21SE?). I also liked the Singlepower, though I'm not sure it's actually shipping yet (other than the one). I would also consider buying a Musical Fidelity A3.2 (or A3^CR in a pinch), and connecting an RCA-to-1/4" jack converter, as I've heard that particular combination, and it was sweet. Is that in the room? Or am I doomed to death by brain compression? I've seen that in a movie once, it's not a pretty sight. And oh yeah -- what's wrong with just trying to find the best current-production tubes? Some of them are not so bad. Ei Elite gold pins...Mullard reissues...
  2. I said volume control, not source selection, pea-soup-for-brains.
  3. Dude, you even put your slippers in the diagram. LOL! I think that should be a function of (a) how much time you actually spend listening to the speakers, and ( what you can afford.
  4. Just be thankful you didn't have them on your head at the time as well. All the same, I hate when shit breaks, be it my fault (as is the case with my ATH-A100Ti) or otherwise.
  5. Does that have a remote? He specifically mentioned remote volume control, you fucking shill.
  6. Musical Fidelity A3.2 should go for ~<US$1K (personally, I'd wait around for US$700-800). Here's one. Rated Class A by Stereophile. Even has a phono pre built in. Not sure how much the A308's go for, but if you're not in any rush, you might try one of those. Should be bet'n US$1.5K-US$2K.
  7. You know, as soon as I wrote that, I thought, "someone's going to tell me to go to hell and die", but I thought I'd just let it happen anyway. I even thought of it during the edit window...the only incorrect part of the prediction is that I thought it was going to be someone else. Hell is a place of perpetual pain and torment; Hell is a place where the smells are overwhelming; Hell is a place where a lot of things happen, but you're never sure what's going on; Hell is a place where you can't ever find the CD you want to listen to right now.
  8. Being chased out is hardly the same as being banned. It's not just "don't post NSFW links", it's also "don't do anything illegal" -- and yes, there are things you can post that would count as illegal, especially if they're followed with or preceded by action. This is not a head-case rule, this is a live-in-america rule. So things like links to snuff films, child pornography, &c. would be illegal, marked as such or not. So you can say things like "you sick fuck", but I wouldn't recommend saying things like "you go to hell and die", because that could be interpreted as a threat, and would raise a big ol' red flag. Unless, of course, you're quoting South Park.
  9. -- watch 'til at least 3:42, preferably longer.
  10. Aren't those called "preamps"? No, I'm kind of serious -- if I had to do something like that, I'd probably get a Musical Fidelity A3.2 -- that's the cheapest one on the used market.
  11. Yeah, I have a question: can you put me in your will?
  12. Do you have a spare amp lying around, or do they need to be powered?
  13. Just got back from hearing these -- they are awesome, nice neutral sound, a very mild swale in the midrange, but not noticeable with most recordings. Bass is tight and extended, nice air in the upper frequencies. And comfy as heck.
  14. Gesundheit! With what company, if I may ask?
  15. Those aren't quilts, those are "room treatments". Hey, if those sound as nice as they look, then they...uh...sound real nice! No, seriously, report back -- I'm looking for an omnidirectional speaker, and might consider a dipole. Please especially let me know how the off-axis response is.
  16. To what, to itself? Then yeah -- super glue.
  17. Call? Nag? Hey, it could be worse -- it could be McAlister that you're dealing with.
  18. Yeah, we tried it -- it's a mixed bag, and it's not a one-to-one correlation with the amp. Some amps just don't work well with it, some do. Some of the best sound I ever heard with a HD600 was with a Krell KAV-300i (?nomenclature) through the ASL thingy. Some of the worst was with a Jolida JD102B (bass was insane). In real life (I.E. with speakers), I prefered the Jolida enough to keep it, got rid of the Krell. UHC-1 -- yeah, that sounds right.
  19. There's also a product by ASL called...um...I forget...I have one...somewhere...
  20. You mean, Michigan. And yeah, what everyone else said -- if I had US$5K and lived anywhere in the area, I'd be all over this.
  21. link So, apparently you can turn your head, and the source will stay over there. Cool, huh?
  22. Congrats! Glad you're happy with it. Yes yes review review!
  23. They look nice enough -- how do they sound? Dipoles, huh? How much? Give us all the gory details, inquiring minds (as well as enquiring minds) want to know!
  24. So...it was good?
