Why is the Wheatfield so hard on tubes?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in Headphone Amplification
No, I never opened it up -- it got kind of shoved to the back-burner. Thanks for the "bump" -- I'll definitely get around to it shortly. And thanks again for the offer, thrice. And thanks for the pic. I'm kind of a newb, so started to ask what was wrong with it, until I looked at it compared to the ones next to it. OMG! -
I highly recommend discussing it over here, especially since if you do, I won't have to scold you for POSTING SPOILERS, YOU FUCKS... Although I have to express my appreciation for the amount of effort you guys have been doing in the Battlestar Galactica thread -- I don't want to open the thread, but will instead say THANK YOU here. I have noticed, and y'all have been doing it such a way that I have been able to ignore the posts. So, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I now return to your previously schedule curmudgeon.

Nice review, I agree with most of your points, especially about tonal balance. I think I disagree on comfort, but I've never had them on my head for 2 hours. My biggest disappointment actually has nothing to do with these phones -- it's the fact that since they discontinued the K1000, these are supposed to be their top-of-the-line headphones, and as such, are...disappointing. A company's top-of-the-line headphones should be pretty damn good..."statement"... Actually, I thought that was basically the difference between the pro and the home version, when those came out...? I'll have to find my email from Jan (Meier)...

Google smart.

I'm a Beyer fan, and first of all, I disagree with the lack of midrange comment. Recessed, yes; "none to speak of", no. Maybe after you've been numbed to midrange by Grado headphones shoving it in your face all the time... Secondly, in answer to the original question -- no, I've not heard them, but I don't understand the appeal, and am not at all drooling to try them, though in all fairness, I should still hear a pair. The DT770's are fine for what they are, I'd be surprised if the changes really rendered an overall improvement. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm skeptical. I suspect it's a flavor-of-the-month thing again, over there.

LOL @ benign ghost.

I love my silver interconnects from Pure Silver Sound. They take forever to burn in, though. Like weeks.

I always liked Joe better. Funny thing is, they both really talk like that. The following conversation occured at the end of my viewing of Saw III: Dusty: Well...that didn't exactly live up to the standards set by the first two. Hirsch: That's one way of putting it. Dusty: How would you put it? Hirsch: It sucked. Dusty: (LOLs)

Skip Montreux. PS I've been on a Miles binge myself lately, and have all of the Columbia series and the live ones except Montreux and Plugged Nickel (which for some reason is no longer in Borders' catalog) and the Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions.

Yeah, I go through that too, every time someone uses the word "remix" in that "more than just a remaster" sense. There should really be a different term for that, like remixdown. PS R. Kelly hates Saw III. Likes Grados, though. Tolerates Ryan Adams, but I think that's just his public face being nice.

What's wrong with them besides the fact that they're missing pads? And: It says right in the auction:

I picture her driving a mecha.

I am. And Bjork is pretty diverse, too. I'm also looking forward to the new Tori Amos that it's being paired with on that site.

They're amazing live. Tight as a mosquito's butt. Think Chili Peppers meets Rush meets John Zorn...or think of something else, because I just choked on that one a little bit.

Just got back from seeing VNV Nation and And One at the 9:30 Club -- right in the middle of some banter, Ronin said, "don't listen to that guy on Head-Case, he's full of shit." And then a girl who had just turned legal offered to have sex with him after the show, and someone threw him a leprechaun. "Standing" is still my favourite song by them, but "Genesis" is up there, too. He has such a great voice compared to so many others in the genre (the Arnold-Schwarzeneggar-alike Austrian or German accent is de facto in EBM the same way growling is in metal), and such a great stage presence (he basically carries the show, with lots of help from the drummer, although it would suck if they skimped on the other two synthesists), that they really are great live. And for once, the audience in DC didn't suck! (Usually they just stand around mopeful.) And One were awesome live, too. They promised to come back next year and play a two-and-a-half hour set. I hope they do, I did not get enough of them by a long shot.

Yes, but all those reviews aren't worth anything if they disagree with your impressions.

Dang, those Acoustic Zen Adagios are gorgeous.

OMG, I hated the third one; I thought the first and second ones were fantastic, though, a real return to form in the horror genre. I mean, they don't even show the infamous foot amputation scene. I saw an interview with the director where he was bragging about how gross one particular scene (the piercings scene) was -- in the first one, he has nothing to brag about, so he has to fall back on the story, so it's better for it. Hated. Hated. Hated. And the ending? Beautiful? It was obviously just an attempt to nicely wrap up the series, close off any loose ends. Obviously just pointless violence, nothing scary about that at all. Billy -- you should see "Scary Movie 4" -- it's a sendup of a lot of movies in the style of Airplane (directed by the same guy). It should give you enough to appreciate what he's doing here. (I love the part where he motions to the other guy, "hey, come here, this one's going to do it"...) Warning, it might ruin a few movies for you, so hopefully you've seen them all first -- War of the Worlds, Brokeback Mountain, The Village, Million Dollar Baby...I forget what else...oh, yeah, The Ring and The Grudge. But if you don't watch scary movies, then you won't care if movies like the Ring and The Grudge are ruined for you. Any others? You should probably check: link ...and also the one where Eminem is a rapper in a competition -- 8 Mile? Or was that from 3? I forget...

I take it you've never seen any of the Saw movies, then? He's asking for the most tube-like solid-state amplification, in an entertainingly roundabout manner.

It's hard to sodomize a swarm. I doubt the amp experts on Head-Fi lied to you -- but there are only a couple of those. Other people pretending to be amp experts may be lying to you, but I suspect they just don't know better. There should be an entry on that list for a "Regurgitator". Sorry about that.

No, it's great! It's a good indicator of the listening position. Oh, and if I may ask: what software did you use that provides slippers with a button-click?
-
Great, I'm going to die, and the last thing I'm going to hear is Ryan Adams.
-
Yeah, you keep telling yourself that...

Having a pair of RS-1's stapled to my head is punishment enough. Can't I get a good pair of headphones, you fucking sadist?
