  1. Oh, okay.
  2. People who are high on crack like the 650's?
  3. Bumping up an old topic. So yeah, after reading repeatedly how nice the JPN's and the VTG's are, I'm passively in the market for them (although it has to coincide with my having money, of course, which I currently don't), but was wondering if anyone has any additional thoughts on this, now that the a900ti and a950ltd are out...? Are they in the running, or are they more in W2002/W100 territory, or "other"? Currently, I use the CD3000 as sort of a poor-man's L3000, as, until I get them recabled (the L3000's, that is), I am really unhappy with the midrange suckout. I'm actually tempted to put in an EQ. The Sony's certainly don't have the same delivery of transients that the Audio Technica's do (can you say, "smoov"?), but since I'm not doing critical listening, they are perfectly adequate for passive work listening. I'm tempted to just get a pair of each and decide for myself. They are black (the A500 and the A950ltd are, anyway, even if the a900ti is not), after all, and closed, the former of which is not a criteria, but certainly a plus, and the latter of which is definitely a criteria.
  4. I have a hard time justifying upgrade power cords. I mean, c'mon, have you seen the shit that's in your walls? Chain is only as strong as its weakest link, etc. As long as it is not so bad as to make things worse, I have a hard time seeing how it could be better. And I certainly couldn't hear the difference, the one time I tried.
  5. (I also saw Tag Heuer in the store, but not on their site.)
  6. I think he did, as that is the image's name. I think it was just a typo in his post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSP46lWvxJ4
  7. That's a great name for a cat. PS I like kitties.
  8. I still don't know who she is. I presume this is from some teevee show?
  9. (adopts heavy Russian immigrant accent) But at least here in America, you can -- how do you say -- "call us on it"...you can tell us we're boring. And we hear it, and we wear insult like badge on sleeve. Over there in communist Russia, one risks being silenced or perhaps much worse consequences. So we wave flags a little more strongly, yes? Do you really blame us? Yes, it gets a bit redundant, only because we continue to give people like Billy and tyrion and trose the freedom to keep stirring shit up. Over there, people get "disappeared".
  10. Billy, did you know that CostCo sells Breitling?
  11. Dude And although I started out using disk images, I switched to invidual tracks in the long run, as it made it easier to convert to MP3's non-destructively (I.E. now my backup doubles as a source for my MP3 player). Using individual tracks, you don't need to fall back to MP3's, you can use FLAC or some other lossless compression format.
  12. I'll second the Firebird Suite recommendation.
  13. The only potential problem -- and this should be overcome by most modern transports -- is that you have a higher error rate on the copy than on the original. This depends on two things: the error rate on the original, and the error rate on the copy. Measure both, and you'll find out for yourself which is better. Funny thing: if the error rate on the copy is less than the original, you actually have a small probability of improving the fidelity upon copy. Actually, one more problem -- on some CD's, good luck on getting 100% accuracy. I got so impatient with that, that I settle for 98.6% accuracy (or so -- I forget the exact number). Also, it might be cheaper and more time-efficient to back them up onto external hard drives. Then all you have to do is rip, not burn. You can always burn them later.
  14. Me and Hirsch have seen it too -- I enjoyed it, I forget whether or not Hirsch did, I think he did. Neither of us liked Man with Two Brains too much.
  15. Just got back from 30 Days of Night -- kinda mediocre, but I enjoyed it. It seemed strained, like they ran out of budget or something. Spoilers: I mean, where the hell was the second wave of vampires?
  16. Nice animated gif usage.
  17. Don't be a bigot. So you're saying she looks like one of those large-eyed velvet paintings? Or a human version of an anime character? And that's bad...how? I like eyes.
  18. Or I could pimp it, ghetto style, with tinting...air bubbles, frayed edges, and all.
  19. Yes! Yes yes yes yes yes! Okay, I made my watch (exactly like yours, except without the turquoise pips [yes, I even chose the carbon fiber backing]). Now...how do I buy it?
  20. This should be amusing to any pianists who have learned Rachmaninov's Prelude in C# minor: .
  21. Exactly:
  22. Actually, one of them's a guy, but that doesn't make him any less a carpet muncher. No, wait, you're right, both chicks. I stand corrected. *ahem*
  23. What are these? No way! The HHF1 greater than the PS1 and the HP1? Well said, I will be taking this approach as well. I have to think about mine, will get back to you.
  24. Actually, I bought it myself. It was between that and a Scion xA, and the Scion just didn't have enough oomph for me. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought that $8K used Subaru Forester I saw, or spent the extra couple thousand and bought the Mazda3 hatchback I really wanted (they were actually pretty close in price, but the moonroof/sunroof/whatever is not an option on the Suzuki, hence saving me a little). I did. They are always very helpful. Here is their response: So basically, I need to yank out what's in there, and possibly hack away at the space to make the Sony fit. I actually do know a site that does custom install jobs, but not sure it's worth the extra money, and was looking for alternatives. By the way, my post above was incorrect, when I wrote "Clarion incorrectly labels this as a Euro-DIN unit", I meant "Crutchfield incorrectly labels this as a Euro-DIN unit".
