  2. Spot-welding doesn't require solder, does it?
  3. You know what's great about this forum is that he has the freedom to call us jerks. On Head-Fi, his post would have got deleted, and his repeated behavior would have gotten him a ban. Too bad he's too dumb to realize how good he has it here.
  4. Yeah, god Jude forbid that they use head-case as the temporary solution for Head-Fi's down-ness -- when Head-Fi comes back up, no need to worry about the interim posts.

My big beef with Tubular Bells 2003 is that it was Tubular Bells 2003, and not Tubular Bells 1973 (or whatever). I mean, that moment when the distorted guitars suddenly come in halfway through just didn't have the same impact. It was all modernly produced and all. I'd be more than happy with Taurus IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X at this point.

L yeah! Thanks for the heads-up, will definitely be looking for it now.
  7. I wouldn't -- I mean, if you ever get the chance to hear a really high-end preamp in your rig, by all means, do so, but if I had that rig, I'd want to hear that it made a positive difference first.
  8. (A) Not my biggest concern. ( As if.
  9. Yeah, but only the misinterpretation -- there were plenty of other problems that that course of action would have introduced, and they would have outweighed the misinterpretation.
  10. Some of us even base our opinion on having heard the things.
  11. Tough: Toughbook and/or ... dagnabit, I forget the name of the competition...apparently Dell Latitude ATG is also ruggedized...I'll post again if I remember the name and/or find the ad of the other major company I was thinking of (it was from Micro Center). They're not cheap, though.
  12. I used to say "Hey Ho good neighbor" (from Home Improvement), then shortened it to "Hey Ho", until someone misinterpreted it, and asked me if I just called his wife a ho.
  13. So does that mean that Rick is going to be a moderator again?
  14. Well played, I liked the way you worked that in.
  15. You don't get young club girls? I do...but that's probably more than you needed to know about my imagination.
  16. Thread delivers.
  17. I've heard K501's with decent bass...better than the R10, anyway...maybe not DT770 bass, but it was certainly adequate...and this coming from an unapologetic basshead.
  18. It's not just cosmetic -- they had to redesign it to get all the lead out (literally). Admittedly, it's a very faithful redesign -- it's basically the same headphones made with lead-free materials. I thought they did something with the grill as well.
  19. That's post number -- there's no mathematical formula for mapping post number to thread number without knowing everything there is to know about the site. So the only way is to try it. Try something like this: site:head-fi.org "Dusty Chalk" feedback and then instead of clicking on the links, click on "Cached". I only have one page of feedback, and it's the first one in my search; you guys may have more work ahead of youse. Justin, I can't figure out the exact search, but if you can figure out some text that shows up in peoples' public profiles, you can replace the above search's "feedback" with that text. "home page" "private message" "location" "occupation"? I'm not coming up with it. Oh, never mind, I found one, and all the usual public profile stuff like MSN, ICQ and whatnot isn't in there anyway.
  20. No, I agree with boomana -- he's right if you take it at a "pop" level, but he's wrong to do so. Audiophilia has always been a niche market, and having mp3's vs. FLAC vs. DSD and high-rate PCM just points out the differences between the lengths people will go to to get high fidelity. Most people -- either out of having a low budget, or out of not caring enough -- will go the low fidelity route, but there will always be a subset of the population -- both out of elitism, and out of actually caring -- that will be interested in "better". He completely leaves the niche-ness out of his analysis, and thereby misses the mark.
  21. Nothing like slathering on the ass-kissing to get on our good side -- well played! Oh, and "Miscellaneous" is probably the best place to ask about whole systems.
  22. Oh, you'll know.
