Actually, I think it'd be more in character for him to look around the room, find something, limp over to the person, and then whack them with it. As a tribute to your professor, you could stage the scene in a room with a skeleton in it, and he could take the bone and whack the person with it.

Audio Technica headphone question -- closest to leatherhead?
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in Headphones
They shipped last Wednesday (right before the holiday), 5-10-ish days, so best case scenario, I get them this week. -
That is our way.

Help purchasing headphones for my mother (closed, K1000?)
Dusty Chalk replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in Headphones
I didn't find the DT880 light in the bass at all. Not heavy, neither, but certainly not bass-lite. And I have heard bass with the K501, but that's still probably the direction I will go. Or perhaps one of the "bad" W100's -- anyone have one of those they want to sell me? I've heard those (L, I used to own them), and they might be perfect. I'm not getting her another limited headphone. -
Its me again with another stupid question

Or maybe a Beta-22. -
I'm going to have to use that line.

Sounds like Seuss: I put it there for you to read; I put it there, though there's no need; I put it there with a smile on my face; I put it there to put you in your place; I put it there -- that's my sig's role; That's why I put it there, you assfacehole.

As a seller, it is fiscally irresponsible to put the buyer at risk of being out both his money and his product. I don't know about you, but I want my buyer to receive his merchandise -- underdeclaring it is just asking for trouble.

That's quite slow -- you've got time.

Sorry, that was news to me -- I will now bow out of this thread until I can be of service again, since I'm not contributing anything useful.

You realize that if you're volunteering, you can also implement it yourself.

Needing direction... from experienced people!

Yeah, from your original post, seems like the Ed 9's are your weak link, I would definitely try other headphones. -
Yes, we have dual personalities like that.

She slept with me last night. Oh, and I just wanted to commend everyone for avoiding those "that's the closest you're going to get to pussy" and "finally found a female you can keep satisfied, huh?" jokes. Took my coworkers/friends IRL all of 5 seconds to come up with those.

The K501's are a good suggestion when underamped, but they're no longer being made, right? What about the K601's? I didn't know the W5000 was bass-light, I may have to try a pair, now. Thanks for the suggestions, feel free to keep them coming. How about something in the lower end of the Audio-Technica closed line? Maybe I should get a pair of the A500's, after all, since I was talking about getting a pair in that other thread. Worst case, I may have to give her an EQ to get rid of the bass frequencies (they seem to trigger some kind of distortion in her ears). Don't get me started -- that was just before they got discontinued, so I was sure I could get another pair for US$3xx, which is what I paid for the ones I gave her, formerly known as mine. They're pretty much the only ones she could hear anything on. In hindsight, I had no idea how generous I was being. I'm not saying I wouldn't have done it anyway, but if I knew then how long I'd be without a pair, I would have at least slept on it a couple more nights. -
Really?!?!? I have no idea what this means, when contrasted with the power specifications.

$2,000 Arcam or $200 Oppo + NAD M5 impressions
Dusty Chalk replied to HiWire's topic in Home Source Components
I would rule out the Musical Fidelity -- it is good entry-level performance, but nowhere near flagship. You should also consider SACDMods-modded Denon universal player such as the 3930 (?designation), or some other familiar modder -- ModWright, perhaps? I've also considered a RAM-(Reference Audio Mods-) modded Oppo, myself. -
Welcome to head-case, sorry about your thin skin. We don't ask people to post their excuses for selling shit, but yours is certainly one of the more interesting ones -- my sister is a pilot (although she hasn't flown in ages), so I can sympathize -- it's an addiction, just like anything else. Albeit, not one with any damaging side-effects other than to your wallet. Actually, many of us here have a computer-based source, there's nothing wrong with that. No, it really isn't. Think "integrated amp driving single, full-range drivers", just on a much smaller scale. There is definitely good equipment out there, just as there is with speakers, and there is bad. It's not a matter of a headphone listening experience being better or worse than a speaker listening experience, it's just different -- you're always in the sweet spot, but you have to wear this thing on your head. (That's pretty much an overly-simplified synopsis of the fundamental listening differences, from a functionality perspective; there's also the psychology of listening privately, the fact that most audiophile recordings aren't designed for headphone listening with regard to soundstage and whatnot, the "visceral bass" debate [listening with just your ears vs. with your entire body], the effect of room treatments and interaction with the environment and a whole mess of other issues.) Mmm...VTL...I've heard that they have some minor QC issues, but if you can get past that, their equipment can sound really good, but I have no personal experience -- just the occasional review in a trade mag. Some recommendations: Apogee, HeadRoom. I'd go with HeadRoom, since you had such a good first impression with them (and by the way, that's not just talk -- they walk the walk as well). Those diamond buffers sound great.
