If you had to downgrade your entire rig to $500 ...
Dusty Chalk replied to jinp6301's topic in Miscellaneous
Stax SR-001 Mk II (amp and headphones) M-Audio Transit And that's only US$320 new so far, I could spend a fair amount on an interconnect... And that's pretty much the niche I was thinking of when I mentioned it in that other thread. It's a pretty good all-rounder like that. -
I already put that in my personal text.

What do you think of "markl Mod for Denon AH-D5000" thread?
Dusty Chalk replied to purk's topic in Headphones
I guarantee you there was something wrong. Not necessarily a tube -- perhaps a cap burnt out, a diode gone bad...something. Admittedly, I never spent a lot of time with Hirsch's R10s, but I never heard clipping. And Hirsch has spent a lot of time with his R10s, and he would not tolerate it. I'm sure of it. -

I love the fact that everyone refers to him as JP#'s (I presume that's pronounced jay-pee-numbers?). -

I think that's really her voice there singing, but I don't think she pretends to play the guitar or sit at a keyboard, so who cares? I think we stopped caring about that in 1990. L, even Depeche Mode got outside producers to help when Alan Wilder left them. -
No, I wasn't thinking about those -- those are the exceptions. Nope -- default cables for 600's are 1/8" w/ 1/4" adapter, I think Grados are 1/4", don't know about AKG's; Beyers are 1/8" w/ 1/4" adapters; Sony CD3000's and MDR-7506/-V6's are all 1/8" w/ 1/4" adapters. The only ones I know of that are 1/4" are: Grados (the one I have, and the ones I remember, anyway); Audio-Technica Japan (except for at least the A100Ti, which is 1/8" w/ 1/4" adapter); and Sony R10's.

Uh...no. And I wasn't suggesting you register at AudioKarma.org and PM the guy, I was suggesting you register at AudioKarma.org and start a thread in their McIntosh section -- it's fairly active. And I doubt you're the only person who wants to know. I actually need to log in there some time soon and put a pair of speakers up for sale over there, perhaps I'll PM the guy and point him to this thread. Or I could start a thread there, and put a link to it here. I'll probably do both, so that he can answer over there, and be aware that there are some lurkers to the thread over here. And I disagree with the assessment that 1/4" is associated with pro -- most headphone amps I've ever seen have 1/4" jacks...up until recently, what with the portable market and so on. And that includes the ones built in to my entry level CD players. But I completely agree with this: They really are like that. L, for all I know, that information is already out there on ak.org.

Yes, but then the adjective form would be assfaceholy (from assfacehole-y), with the relative and superlative forms being assfaceholier and assfaceholiest.
-
You should ask this guy (must be a member of AudioKarma.org to see ron-c's profile) -- he's a McIntosh rep. Though, knowing them, I suspect the reason goes something like this: Most headphones these days have a 1/8" termination with a 1/4" adapter, so it minimizes the number of connections on most phones.

You bought Quantum Mechanics? Dude, you was robbed. Me: Shahinian Obelisks (the Dynaudio Special Twenty-Fives and the Pioneer HPM-100's are now definitely going up for sale)

Hey, markl, good to see you taking these criticisms in good form, very civil of you. There was definitely something wrong with the Singlepower that you had -- Hirsch has had multiple iterations of Singlepower amps -- including the first Supra -- and they all drove R10's, and to a level that was satisfactory to Hirsch (and I doubt he tolerates distortion). Burned out tubes? Something else? I don't know, but I know that they can drive R10's just fine. I suspect they can drive Denons just fine, too. -

I think he was making fun of the fact that you said "likely" instead of "likey". Oh, and anyone knows the correct response is: Primus sucks. -

Yeah! That self-titled album was a slayer, wunnit? Me: Kylie Minogue -- Yeah, I know, she's got a not-small audience, but most of the people I know (read: indie music hipster snobs) have only heard of her, and all they know is that she's some knicker-on-stage-wearing disco pop-diva-bimbo, and have no idea what I see in her. "[noembed] [/noembed]" is a synth-pop masterpiece (warning: the video is probably a little too much for anyone who is even remotely homophobic to watch more than once -- cracks me up, though -- the irony of having one of the hottest women in the world surrounded by a bunch of [wink wink nudge nudge] male model types is not lost on me). *Hey, Todd, why isn't "noembed" working? Did I use it incorrectly? -

Good one -- I don't get them either. So you like them for the music. (to everyone else) See? It is possible to like them without "experiencing the experience". -
Unless they just checked the coax or USB connections. Did you specifically tell them to check out the optical connection?
-
Yeah, so am I (haven't received them yet, and I ain't checkin' my post office box tomorrow, so earliest -- next week).
-
Snot?

Can you be specific? You're treading right on the line of "I agree with you completely" and For example, Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever is one of my favourite albums of all time, mostly because of its lyricism and melodicism, but I agree that a lot of recent mainstream jazz is basically elevator music played by really good musicians. Case in point, a lot of Miles Davis' post-1980 output. -
I fully intend to -- that's why I mentioned January on the pads, because I'll probably just buy those, the A500's, and some pads all at the same time.
-
Sure -- it'll probably be in January.

I could be good at all those things -- too bad Illinois would be a bit of a commute for me.
