  1. I can't find any pics right now, but I just use corrugated cardboard storage boxes -- the kind they give you when you move offices. The one I have in front of me is 22x15x12, comes from a single piece of cardboard that folds in a funky way so that the floor is reinforced by flaps that are held by the handles. 3 rows on the bottom, 2 rows on top, and any oddball boxsets fit nicely in that middle section between the handles. If you don't mind your fingers getting crowded when you grab the handles, you could probably squeeze 3 rows on top as well.
  2. What'choo need 16 channels for? Turntables are usually 2 channel, 4 at most.
  3. My big thing of late has been transients -- do well-recorded transients pop out as they should, or are they smoothed over? Because they seem to translate to the player's prat pretty well.
  4. Care to recap, what is your shortlist as of now? I still need to hear the Acoustic Zen Adagios myself. I'd also go looking at some Aurum Cantus full rangers. And don't forget those ones that tkam ended up buying.
  5. story In a word, DRM (well, acronym).
  6. Gives new meaning to "universal" player. Although this will not likely last long -- sure looks like it's over.
  7. Why so many question marks, are you confused?
  8. Don't worry about it, it was a rhetorical question.
  9. So, grawk...would that be an example of hyperbole without inflammatory intent?
  10. Only if the difference is as large as some claim. But if you (as a side effect of choosing a cheap soundcard) limit the experiment, you'll only have proved anything if you hear a difference; if you don't hear a difference, one can always blame the limitations of the experiment scenario -- this happens in "real life" science as well as arguments on bulletin boards. It's called "experimental error", and in order for an experiment to have interpretable results, your standard deviation must be well within your ability to account for it. There are plenty of websites to put it up: MediaFire, YouSendIt, zShare, SendSpace.
  11. Ooooo...black headphones... I disagree that they're a disappointment -- I mean, they're from Monster Cable, so expectations won't be high.
  12. Which 'that'? There were several death by carrot scenes. Not that it matters, the answer is still, 'no'. I told you: suspension of disbelief. Oh, and yes, I enjoyed the take it apart, dry it off, and put it back together scene. As well as the conveyer belt scene, the violence while having sex scene, the "key" he used to get into his squat, the whole "remote control by ropes" scene...oh, who am I kidding, I loved that whole movie. So, did you enjoy it? I think all three of us (Hirsch, myself, and Hirsch's and my friend Linda) enjoyed it. I think we all appreciated it for its silliness, because we were all laughing out loud.
  13. Yup, pretty much. No, seriously -- I don't know shit about soundstage on headphones, that's why I didn't post thatwise, but the day/night/week/month is still young -- I'm sure someone with actual knowledge will come along and post eventually, I didn't mean to derail the entire thread, thought it'd be more like a free bump. I've always liked the separation on my HP-2's, and separation is one component of good soundstage, but that was well out of the specified pricerange. Ditto most Stax's and R10's.

Pfff. I like his curmudgeonly writing style -- like several people here -- as well as his unabashed love of things like the LS3/5a and Quads.
  15. Well, if you hadn't mentioned it, no-one would probably've noticed, but alas, now that you've drawn attention to it...just tell them that it was an honest mistake.

Plus Ken Kessler writes for them, and I <3 him.
  17. Dam, I miss college.
  18. So...lots of Black Sabbath and Motorhead, then?

I just subscribed a several months ago. Not cheap, but it's better than missing one of the popular issues (like the end-of-year issue, awards issue, and whatnot).
  20. Rockhopper is a commercial manufacturer. 2x
  21. Yup, can't start season 2 soon enough. And yes, I already know about the timing of the show getting cancelled.
  22. Your mama didn't mind.
  23. I didn't realize, but I just finished watching Season 1 of Deadwood last night. God damn. I don't know if it's the "best show evar!!!1!", but goddamn, it's a good show. No, wait, let me try that again, ...but goddamn, it's a good fucking show. That last episode was killer. The silent exchange between Trixie and Al just totally slayed me. A lot more to it than that, too. The fact that Al killed two people, and you ended up at least empathizing with him on both counts, if not completely sympathizing with him ("bag of shit") is definitely a score for the writers. And then they toy with your emotions with the whole Jewel's boots storyline.
  24. I prefer liqueurs.
