I just backed it up two weeks ago and I picked up a new 1tb external to put in the system tonight so I can finally try out the new DAC.
-
In case anyone missed the e-mail, the new version of Amarra is out. I have not played with it much as my external HD with all my music for the Mini has died on me but it doesn't look like much has changed.

I have a lot of duplicates in the Vinyl collection as it is spread across three homes and I got a large chunk of it by buying a closing record store's stock. I intended to sell off most of the duplicates but have not had time. I really got into SACD there for a while and still get all of the Acoustic Sounds SACDs to keep the Emm Labs stack happy. I have a few duplicates but most I picked up used at Princeton Record Exchange as they have a large collections and sell them for good price due to lack of sales.

Finally broke down and got myself a Kindle. Jin, great pen. I have a couple of Lamys in the collection and I think they write better than several other more expensive pens I own.
-
After the Holidays I have broken the 15,000 LPs level. I had not bought in a while but I got a lot from family and friends as presents. I would guess I have around 3,000 CDs, 350 SACD, 40 RTRs, and 50 Cassettes.

Fucking moron with computer source question......

You need to use a USB HD as your Mini will only have one Firewire which is reserved for the ULN-8. -
I used to run the firewire into the ULN-2 and then AES/EBU out to the PWD but I do not believe I ever got anything over 96k. My X-Mas present should put all these DACs on the FS Forum here shortly and it will be used with USB input so I will definitely be stuck with 24/96 until dCS upgrades.

I can certainly tell the difference between on and off, I just don't think it is a huge difference so the difference between two versions of Amarra would have to be pretty small. I happen to think the new version is not as warm sounding. But I might be nuts. I would say the biggest difference I note with Amarra on is in soundstage width/depth and instrument placement. I definitely could tell the difference between Amarra and that other Audiophile Engineering mess as I definitely preferred the Amarra.

Yes, I have an HR-X with a pair of Stereo/Mono Lyra Titans and a Scoutmaster w/ some old Dynavector that I can't remember. I definitely prefer vinyl but this computer as a source thing has really caught on in my house. -

Yeah, you get full upgrade price for the Mini if you upgrade to the full version so no real loss. -

I use the Mac Mini with Amarra Mini ($395.00). The sound is supposedly the same but you lose the EQ and the ability to use the software for 24/192 music which could affect you as the Ayre is going to be upgraded to 24/192 some time soon. I have never heard a great difference between 96 and 192 so I am fine with the Mini. -
DACs are soooooo yesterday, everyone in the know is now collecting little amps for their JH13s. I decided to pick up a Rx for mine earlier this week.
-
The guys over at CA seem to think there is some difference and some have gone back to the old version. I often think about the full version but I do not want to mess with an EQ and I have no way to get more than 24/96 out of the computer so I will also wait to see the quality of the Vinyl thing before I decide. I seemed to remember there being some difference but as the sonic differences between on and off with Amarra are just minimal in my system any changes are very tiny.

I have had great luck with the Mac Mini and Amarra as have several other members here. I have everything in AIFF and the access to all my music has the fantastic sound quality have resulted in me listening to a lot more music with this system than any of my other sources, probably 95%. I just use a basic USB portable drive as my iTunes HD and have had zero issues with the largish files playing all day long. -
Wow, I had no idea who this girl was but it appears she has played with everyone from Santana to Michael Jackson to Steve Vai and she can really play an electric guitar. Larry, thanks for the great CD and introducing me to music I would probably have never heard on my own. I hope you enjoy the Nancy Bryan. Looking at your music list I think she will fit in well with your collection.

Happy Birthday

Yeah I unfortunately played all the wrong people but I really thought Smith was going to get that last TD before they threw it to Stewart. I benched Miles Austin last minute for Meachem and that cost me.

So the championship game will be Raffy vs. Salty. Congratulations guys.

That moment at 12m45s is just a pseudo break in. They will quickly drop off and take another 32d4h13m7s to sound their best. It looks like someone bought up all of the mail connectors for iems for Ray's little amp. Someone think they have a business plan or is Ray full of it. Yeah I remember she was at the live draft when I was up there last time.

I kind of picture you as the guy in "The League" whose wife makes all his decisions for the team and Raffy as Taco who is often in a haze of smoke and seldom realizes he actually has a team. By the way that is an awesome show that stars a friend of mine so everyone should catch it when you get a chance. http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/theleague/

I thought maybe you benched everyone when you saw your opponent was going to have a total score of 46. I had one player score 35 on his own.

Happy whatever Ken.

Each round of the playoffs are actually two weeks long so even if you are low scorer this week you can still come back next. Oh, I am thinking about dropping Nate and Raffy into the Consolation ladder with the miserable games they had this week.
