  2. Looks great Al. Congrats to our newest member of the work force. No idea what that job is but it is a great thing to go straight from College to the job you hoped for.
  3. Happy Birthday
  4. Spent two hours at the 5th Avenue Apple Store trying to get Genius service. What a Circus. While I was there I saw a girl that had shattered her iPad 2 screen get a free new one and a couple that brought in what appeared to be a fake iPhone 3Gs that had screws falling out of the phone while the Genius tried to get the case off and they sold them a new iPhone 4 for $99 because they could not get the train wreck working.
  5. Halcro DM58s.
  6. The wallet is about to get heavier as this thing is going back. Remote barely works and while quieter than the Vornado type fans in the store it is still too noisy for my uses.
  7. My main system speakers are the Magico M5s. They seem to do everything I need for my speakers. I was hoping to find preamp/amps at the show but this was largely focused on Speakers using utilitarian preamp/amps. I can certainly see what you say about those Miami speakers as there was something a bit off, I thought it was a combo of the amp and the Tact system doing its thing, but some blues guitar he played for me sounded pretty decent. I also really liked the EAD room. Those little guys sounded better than I would have expected but I was also a big fan of the larger EADs at the last Stereophile show so maybe I like their house sound. Another note on the HR 1 to 1 disks. These things are seriously good. Not a huge selection but the music is decent and sound quality is some of the best I have heard in my system. David told me they were simply DVD-R copies of the Studio Master. I got: Jazz Side of the Moon 24/192 Rebecca Pidgeon - The Raven 24/192 John Hammond - Rough and Tough 24/192 Jimmy Cobb Quartet - Jazz in the Key of Blue 24/192 Jen Chapin - reVisions 24/192 I also got all these UDC discs from FIM but I am having a tough time differentiating between these discs and the standard CDs or these albums. Maybe a tiny bit less grain but not worth the hugely elevated prices these things are going for.
  8. Yes Crappy it is. I am involved in a top secret government project designing military-specific paper airplanes and this will be my test wind tunnel.
  9. One of these for the listening room. Needed some air circulation and this was the quietest fan I could find.
  10. It was some audiophile approved stuff I did not recognize. In that room at least the midrange was washed out by the fairly flabby bass. I thought they sounded good but nothing I would want to put in my system. The same reaction I had to pretty much everything there. Did you listen to those open baffle speakers from Miami in the High End Palace room? I thought they might be alright for the metal guys as they had good control of the bass and pretty good dynamics.
  11. No the phone pocket won't even hold an iPhone 4 with no case. It is really small. Maybe the Sport is a better idea, that one wasn't out when I was buying.
  12. The Black Rapid is fantastic. I have a few but the one with the big storage strap on/shoulder pad is my favorite. Do not remember which number that is.
  13. Yeah I definitely did not feel like this show was one worth traveling to. I thought some of the rooms were okay but the rooms were pretty bad. This is the 175k per pair monoblocks that I listened to first. Terrible room in that a column was in the sweet spot so you had to be to the side and the huge Wharfdales were so close that it was a useless experience for me. In action Legacy. Not terrible, but did not do much for me. Orion. MBL. Finally a MBL room that was not blasting techno. I liked these better than a lot of the stuff there.
  14. It is actually HR 1 to 1. Supposedly exact one to one copies of studio masters at 192/24. The Chesky brother with the long hair told me they are as good as it gets. Also got several MA recording DVD-r masters that Jack Woo convinced me to buy and all of the UDC Series 32/192 collector series. Yet another copy of Brothers in Arms.
  15. I think I have been to all the rooms. Not the best show for amenities or navigation but there some okay rooms and great deals on media. Best rooms for me were TAD and Orion. Nightingale could have been good but some Dbag producer was in there making everyone listen to his album. Music was pretty good but he would not shut the fuck up. Got all the Hdtracks HDR 1 to 1 discs for half price so it was worth the trip.
  16. I should be rolling in first thing in the morning hoping to get some listening time before the masses arrive. I have seen a few music vendors on there but I am hoping the big guys, Acoustic Sounds, Music Direct, etc. bring the big sales floors they use to bring to the Stereophile show.
  17. Mike, have you dumped the big Doxa yet?
  18. Did that girl know you were looking in her window? I like it Brent, maybe a different angle where the smoke came up in front of her face into the light would have made it even better.
  19. I am going to try to make it out there as I need to audition some new preamp/amps.

I call dibs when you sell it next week Mike.
  23. Yeah, I am sure they can both be used to do more than most photographers could ever get from them. I was just going off of Shutterbug and Popular Photography mags that come to my iPad as I have no experience with either.
  24. Manual setting, adjusting aperture according to light conditions. Servo Autofocus of the 5D mkII as I never took the time to figure out the 1D mkIV before heading out the races so it stayed in the truck.
  25. Thanks Gene, they were all handheld.
