  1. One with the Sigma 150 macro. I am going to have to study up on this as it is very different than any lens I have. I did not realize the Aperture would change depending upon distance from subject.
  2. Another night, another neighborhood. This time the weird ass copper upside down elephant in very low light in Union Square. I threw in the cop car just to upset Brent.
  3. A couple from the walk home.
  4. Took the 1D mkIV out to Bryant Park on the way home tonight. Sure makes it easy to focus on moving skaters.
  5. You are going to need to start offering descriptions of what we are looking at now as your macro has become microscopic macro. Pretty neat looking image.
  6. Boney Bones Smith Evidently my bones are rather boney.
  7. Yes, I think the slimmer focal plane of the FF is the biggest cause of difference outside of WB. That and maybe a little bit the fact that the Canon is using a $1400 lens and the Nikon a $500.
  8. Trying to spend some time comparing the 1D mkIV and the D3 tonight. Nothing too involving, just a couple of snap shots at matching exif to see two very different images. I know I should really be set up on tripod, etc. but that will have to come later as I am too lazy right now. 1000 f2.2 ISO 3200 SOOC 1000 f2.2 ISO 3200 SOOC 1/320 f4.0 ISO 3200 1/320 f4.0 ISO 3200 Certainly not hard to tell apart but lens, etc. variables probably are at the root of some of the differences. Not to mention the huge WB differences on Auto WB. I can say I prefer the ergonomics and user interface of the D3 quite a bit better.
  9. Went to catch some fast paced Squash action at Grand Central. Luckily I had my sport lens 14-24 along to catch the action. Then I checked out the wares at the Grand Central Market. Picked up the Ass Reaper hot sauce that I think I saw the Chefs on Iron Kitchen use. Picked up the Cave Aged cheese I needed for my Nachos. Then took off back to the office with a quick stop to shoot the Chrysler Building. All in all not a bad lunch. Now it is time to make those Ass Reaping Cave Nachos.
  10. I got the 14-24 new at B&H. I think it's probably normal, I am just used to the very smooth 70-200 mkII which is really the only other Zoom I use. I tried to sign up over there at the cafe but never got the e-mail to allow me to sign in. All I have so far is the 14-24 and the Sigma 50 f1.4 and I picked up the Rokinon 35 f1.4 on the 375 lightning sale the other day on Amazon.
  11. I actually like the little Nikon setup so far. The rest of the people in this thread don't seem to have some issues with the picture quality but I am happy. The zoom on the 14-24 is not as smooth as I would expect. Focus seems smooth.
  12. Great shot Peter. Good to see you back on the HC Photo thread.
  13. I typically watch it on the TV when I watch it. You should try that.
  14. Happy Birthday
  15. Great pic. 35 1.4 wide open?
  16. Happy Birthday
  17. The cop car was what made it sitting right under the vintage NYPD Neon.
  18. I don't know why everyone hated my Times Square pictures so much.
  19. Some from tonight's MTA Forced Death March.
  20. It definitely is a bit different but I do enjoy the layout/function of the D3. I am not as happy with the quality of the lens. I expect a $2,000 lens to have very smooth zoom and focus controls. This one seems to function about like a $200 lens. I very much like the focus speed with the Nikon in low light. Dramatically better than the 5D and I think maybe even faster than the 1D mk IV in low light.
  21. Zuccotti Park...Unoccupied.
  22. Took the Nikon out for a night on the town. Started by testing the lens/camera setup on the very difficult red and pasty white colors. Then went to Grand Central to see the Constellations. and checked out the stage for the world's largest Squash Tournament. Then jumped on the train over to Times Square Took a picture of this joint just so I would remember to tell Colin they are selling his favorite food out of a box.
  23. I will compare it to the 1D mk IV as I sold my 7D to Salty when I got the 1D.
  24. No, I am taking the time to familiarize myself with this Nikon as people are dumping them for the new D4. Then I will decide whether to get the D4 or wait for the 1Dx.
  25. The Nikon experiment has begun. First surprise, Nikon screws their lenses in backwards. This is very different than my Canons but the size/weight feels good and the build quality or the CF door alone is far ahead of the 5D mk II. Seems to be just about as complicated at the 1D mk IV.
