  1. I have been up in the 190s for extended time on rides back in the day but the last time mine actually worked I stayed below 180. I really found that 30-45 minutes close to 200 was nothing for me but I guess I am in slightly better shape now. I am thinking I need to work on the fit of the new bike as my hip is really sore now.
  2. Turns out the Spot weighs in at 27 pounds 11 oz with rack, lights and fenders on. With the crazy Kryptonite locks and bag I would guess it goes up to around 127 lbs.
  3. I might be up for a drive down there.
  4. I am around all weekend. I know Ben said he is doing some crazy long ride tomorrow that I would need a car for but he might be interested in something today or Monday if it happens.
  5. What/where are you thinking Justin?
  6. Got the Calfee all cleaned and prepped for a ride tomorrow. Any of the locals riding tomorrow?
  7. Maybe you can try something like this With one of its numerous accessories Then you certainly wouldn't look goofy.
  8. The 1000 does look nice but I have been fighting so much with my Garmin gear lately, (stripped out the tiny screws on my HR monitor strap, batteries dead on everything I pick up, Garmin in the car keeps taking me off highways only to tell me to get right back on at the next entrance or directs me to take surface streets right next to an empty highway for miles and miles) that I will definitely wait a bit. I am looking for a less racer helmet to wear for the commute. I kind of like the looks of the POC Octal that Garmin Sharp uses but I have read they do not work well with sunglasses. Anyone have recommendations for a less-spaceship looking helmet than my S-Works Prevails?
  9. The price for the 800 package is pretty great if you need all of that stuff
  10. Yeah, that is kind of what I have in mind.
  11. Happy Birthday Biscuit Boy.
  12. yeah the gloves are massive. It is a nice bag but I know Ortlieb is highly rated for a lot less money.
  13. The pannier I have works really well and has a nice computer compartment and lots of supply holders on the inside. I fit two 14oz boxing gloves, wraps, Oakley radar case, Kryptonite Fuggedaboutit u-lock and chain, iphone, polar water bottle and keys last night. The best thing is I am carrying it as a briefcase today and it does not look out of place. I am going to take advantage of the REI sale this weekend to get some grocery bag panniers I think. What are you commuting on, the Niner?
  14. Did my first massive 1.6 mile commute this morning. Not sure I needed quite as much crap as I bought for this commute so I am going to have to come up with new places to ride the commute bike. Locker was a Dinny nightmare, full of spider webs so I had to clean that all out this morning. They look great from the outside but are really not much of a locker when you get inside. Has anyone bought the Garmin 1000 yet? I am thinking about upgrading my old 800.
  15. I am happy at about 64 degrees.
  16. That is a crazy ride. I am contemplating driving to the gym as it is 86 here. The gym is only half a mile, but hot is hot.
  17. Happy Birthday Raffy.
  18. I ended up changing to a Vaude pannier after looking everything over at the shop. German brand, seems pretty nice and very well laid out on the inside to carry everything I could ever want to take to work. I might get something else to just carry groceries or something at some point. Going to jam all my gym stuff in shortly and head there, if the rain stays away.
  19. The dynamo front wheel was not done yet so I am going with my old MTB headlight for the moment. Too lazy to carry this thing downstairs to weigh it but I would guess 40 pounds.
  20. I stream 320 on Spotify desktop. It is only available to Premium members though. I didn't even know there was a web player.
  21. Also will not jam up if your pant leg gets caught in the apparatus and won't put grease all over your pants as you pedal. Great for commuting. Seems to be a much smoother overall operation and the silent ride is pretty nice.
  22. It will be locked in a locker at the train station but on a rack at the Gym. The bike locker is keyed so I would not need a lock.
  23. Ended up buying the Spot Acme in Mercedes Grey with fenders, rack, Brooks vegetarian seat in grey, Dynamo front hub, Schmidt Edelux II dynamo front light, XTR disc brakes and some sweet panier bags from Basil. Now I need to buy locks, what do you guys use?
  24. Yeah, I was also going to check with your shop to see if they have a Scott SUB Speed like Gene's in stock. I am thinking carbon belt driven is the way to go for this bike.
  25. Yeah I was looking at those until I saw the recent recall for breaking peoples faces when the forks break. I am going to some hipster bike shop in DC tomorrow to look at Spot Acmes and Breezer bikes. http://thedailyriderdc.com/
