Wait a minute....Jude knows Ray
-
Both were cases of Head-Fi interfering with things that it did not necessarily have the right to interfere in. If head-Fi can't accept those funds; if there was an agreement to use those funds and if Head-Fi as an entity had nothing to do with the planning and execution of the National meet, then I don't see how Jude gets to decide or post how those funds are used. I also do not feel Head-Fi has the right to dictate whether a member should or should not allow a person over their house for a meet. That's the parallel. If you are holding a meet at your house, I don't think Head-Fi should have a say as to who is invited and who isn't. Sorry I didn't explain myself more clearly.
-
I'm not siding against you man, you don't have to explain yourself to me. All I was saying was that there is a parallel here. That's it.
-
It wouldn't have to be that way. There are a number of sites that provide information but have boards run by another party. The Headphone organization could be the body that plans and executes meets. Head-Fi would be the official message board attached to the Hobbyist site.
-
I agree Dusty. If the excess funds were going to be distributed by Head-Fi then that's something that should have been stated in the meet information thread. Jude even stood up at the National meet and said that he had nothing to do with the meet and we should thank, Aaron, jpleg, Jahn, Bozebuttons, Tyll...etc. for all their hard work. If anything they should be the ones to decide where that money goes. This goes to the heart of another issue that happened in Ohio where a meet organizer was not going to allow someone to come to their meet (we all know the situation so I won't name names.). If Head-Fi as an organization is not responsible for the organization of the meet then how is it possible that they can dictate meet policy and moreover the use of funds? Tyll I think it's time for that organization to get up and running. I think a symbiotic relationship with Head-Fi is a great idea, but this meet BS is revealing some issues. Issues that need to be resolved. Where will the excess funds (if any) from the next meet go? A fund for Head-Fi member travel? Defray the cost of admission? Or to the boards? Either that or Jude needs to designate people to organize the meets and then compensate them via the excess funds. Something. I'm all for giving things to charity, but if that's the case then we need to know where that money is going BEFORE we plunk it down.

I found that the HD600 responded better to balanced operation as well. The K701 while I good headphone, just doesn't quite scale up to a balanced rig.

Well, the electrolytics in the KGSS power supply are probably somewhere around the 450V/330uF area for value (at least that's what is listed on the schematic at Headwize). All things considered that's a pretty good price for that kind of cap. I'm sure one could find "audiophile" caps with that value that are higher in cost. Granted if you go for a Panasonic or some other brand that's readily available from Digikey or Mouser, you're going to pay like $8-15 per cap so yeah it's expensive when compared to that.

I do like the build-to-order concept of the new Beyre cans. Brown leather pads with champagne anodized cups looks sexy. I know at least one person who wants an all-black pair as well

Iron_Dreamer: When you talk about the dry/dull/non-engaging midrange of the 880 do you mean the old 880 or the newer 880?
-
Well I responded at Head-Fi, but why not here too. Cute kitten. I went to visit my friend and he has two new kittens. This was right after we lost one of our cats...it was therapeutic. We'll get another cat eventually, but for now our other cat and our dog keep us pretty busy already. Enjoy her!

Well, with my newfound love of Stax headphones I thought I'd start a Stax thread. So talk about your Stax cans/energizers/amps...etc. I've got a pair of SR-Lambda Pro headphones recently and I love them. Right nw I've got them hooked up as follows: Wadia 23 RCA>Denon AVR-100>SRD-7 Pro>SR-Lambda Pro I've also heard these out of Hirsch's ES-1 and the 007t amp. The ES-1 trumps all of them of course. Overall they're the clearest sounding headphones I've heard. Vocals are warm but well articulated, the highs are sparkling and fast. The bass is full and rich but does lack the speed of a dynamic headphone at times...but it can go quite deep on some recordings (Thievery Corporation). I don't think I've ever been sucked into Paul Galbraith's recording of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for violin before like these cans suck me in. It's magical....I felt like I was back in music school sitting a few feet away from a buddy playing classical guitar at his recital. I closed my eyes and I was there. I realize that I'm in the honeymoon phase, but I've never had a hard time putting cans down to go to work, do housework, go to slepp..etc. like I do with these. I don't want to stop listening to them. I' listening to them right now as I type. I also picked up the SR-84 combo; called the Lambda Jr. by Stax (SR-4 electret energiser and SR-80 Electret headphones). These are a nice little find as well. Good office rig. Set up as follows: iPod>Sonic Impact T-amp>SR-4>SR-80 Good little combo. Overall retains the same house sound, clear and crisp with more muted bass and less speed overall. But in a pinch they would make a neat little portable rig...can be battery powered since the SR-4 doesn't plug into the wall. So what's your Stax?

Yep...I hear ya....and the transporter is tempting. I can't wait to hear one. If it's just as good as a traditional CD player...:
-
Ok so I just logged into it (didn't create an account yet, but that's awesome...I'll definietely explore this at work. Thanks for the heads-up

Whew top 5 huh: In no particular order: Marvin Gaye, What's Goin' On? Ani DiFranco, Little Plastic Castle Gary Peacock and Ralph Towner, A Closer View The Cure, Disintegration or the Head on the Door. Uh...jesus i don't know...I guess the Gretchen Parlato CD I've been into lately would make the list, but I don't know if that's permanent. I've been getting into so many new things lately, it's hard to pick favorites anymore. I had no idea that Lateralus was so popular...I might have to pull it out and listen some more.
-
The new shuffle is pretty sexy as well. I was hoping they would go from a high volume 60GB unit to 100GB. 80GB will work too I guess.
-
I heard they just shrank some NOS Sony R10s and stuck them in applebud housings. *gasps as Headcasers collapse from heart attacks*
-
Anyone have info on that Woo electrostatic amp? There's some info at their website, but that pic is not there....looks like a different amp. They do not list a price for the amp either.
-
Well, not to butt in, but.... I've had the E500 for awhile now and put some good time in with them. I don't find them lacking in the bass region. At first I thought they had too much bass, but with burn in the mid and highs came into their own. I believe they sound very natural. Good response across the FR overall. They have their shortcoming like anything else, but I've really enjoyed them so far. I should mention that my only other IEM experience is with the SHURE E2c. I have heard the UE lineup at the Natioanl meet and I liked them as well but I can't speak about them with any authority.
-
Another vote for the K1000. Or a Lambda Pro...yep, I'm becoming a Lambda Pro fanboy...not a bad headphone to fanboy about though
-
Glad you're enjoying the L3000 dude...it's something special. Although the Lambda Pro seems to be trumping it at my house right now...of course I don't own a pair of L3000...just a freaky hybrid L3000/W100. But I get that tonality comment. They're spot on.
-
I found it particularly initeresting how the "tune" each earpiece to ensure the same FR. sounds cool. Hopefully I'll get a pair of UE-10 soon
-
Thanks for your thoughts and stories. I had no idea it would be this bad. When I'm home I can feel his absence. It's like something is always amiss. This really hurts. Sure it will get better over time and eventually there will be a new furry dude to curl up on my lap...but right now I'm just trying to push out the feelings of loss and pain with good memories.

Our cat Jazz had been having trouble breathing for about 24 hours so we called the vet. Due to the hour we brought him to an emergency clinic. They X-Rayed his chest and found a large growth pushing on his lungs. They thought they might be able to help him out and drain some fluid, but it wasn't fluid, it was a cancerous growth. It was inits final stages and there was nothing left to do. So I let me little furry buddy go. Once when I posted a pic of him on some "post pics of your pets" thread, a fellow Head-Fier said that Jazz looked like he had a bit of the devil in him...he was right. Jazz was a kitten to he end. He sat on my lap and I listened to cans and kept my legs warm and my chest well perforated (you cat owners know what I'm talking about). I'm gonna miss him, it was awful coming home last night and even worse waking up this morning. Something's not right in the house. My wife and I were sharing stories last night and I remebered one time when I was making a tuna melt in my toaster overn. I left the kitchen to do something else and heard the timer go off...tuna melt was done. I finished what I was doing (about 2 minutes, not even) and went back to get my sandwich. There on the counter was Jazz. He had opened the toaster oven (swear to God!), taken the cheese off the tuna fish sandwich (again, wouldn't believe it unless I saw it), and devoured the tuna fish. I was mad for 2 seconds and then just started laughing. How the hell dd he open the toaster oven?!?!?! That was my Jazz. He was the furry bastard, fluffernutter, furry buddy, fuzzy butt, Jazzmatazz, Jazzy, the boy...etc. I can't tell you how many times things like this happened...he was my napmate as well: Here are some pics of my first pet, first cat, first fuzzy buddy: http://web.mac.com/skatsaounis/iWeb/Site/Jazz.html
