  1. Cool, but I really would like iTunes/quicktime, not just for the player, but for other things as well.
  2. GAH! I'm sick of using Window media crap. Is there a way to install a program on a Windows XP machine without administrator proveledges (this is my work computer and the folks down at IT won't install iTunes or Quicktime). Any workaround oh great computer gurus!?!?!

    W5000s

At first I didn't like the W5000 (nat'l meet). But I went to a meet with two other AT fans and they had two pairs. We were listening to them through an M^3 and also the HA5000 and the Lavry DAC. I seriously had to recondier my position on them...I found them more to my liking. Fit is a problem for me with these cans though....I have a small head (STOP SNICKERING!) and the W5000 are a bit too big...the metal headband is such that the tops of the leather pads don't sit directly against my head properly...this affects the seat and the sound of the headphones. I'm tempted to get a pair though and spend more time with them vs. the W3000 I have, but 'stats are whats in my immediate future .
  5. Since this is the Stax thread I thought I would mention the results of hooking an SRD-7 Pro up to the First Watt F1 we had at Hirsch's house this weekend. It was amazing. I really want to spend some more time with it. Overall a much smoother presentation. We had the F1 being driven by Hirsch's SDS-XLR. Man what a combo not only for the Lambda Pros but also for the K1000. Time to start work on an F1 While I didn't get a lot of time with the F1/Lambda combo, what I did hear was a smooth clear balance throughout the frequencies on the Lambda Pro...speed and detail were there in spades and there was an added sparkle to the music as well. The high "etch" that you get with the Lambdas was nowhere to be heard...super smooth with more bottom-end. I would be interested in hearing Hirsch's comments regarding this setup as well...I left shortly after plugging the SRD-7 Pro into the F1.
  6. The 303 and 404 utilize the same driver...it does seem like the cord may be the big differenece. There culd also be differences in the dampening material and housing, but I don't know. I don't thinnk the 212 is the same as the 313. There is a big disparity in the size of the units. I think the 313 is a different amp fro the 212. However the difference between the old 313 and the 323 is supposed to be negligable. Yes, you can plug the OII into the 313. The big difference is pro vs. non-pro headphones. All of the current Stax headphones have 5-pin plugs and are thus pro biased (580V). The non-pro plug is for older non-pro biased headphones (6-pin). You can plug a pro headphone into a non-pro plug, but you can't go the other way. Also you can plug an electret (SR-80, 40. 30...etc.) into any plug since they only need the signal and not the bias voltage. But Stax doesn't make an electret right now, you can only buy a used one off eBay.
  7. Went to the Clarice Smith Center to see Gretchen Parlato...she's brilliant and has a beautiful voice.
  8. Sigh...someday I will own a pair of quads.....lucky bastard! ENJOY
  9. LOL...yeah I rememeber when we got our dog two years ago. The head of the household (Jazz our then 6 year old cat) was pissed to say the least. Took a year for him to forgive us and the same amount of time for him to stop terrorizing the dog when our backs were turned. Made for some interesting moments.
  10. congrats, what a cutie!
  11. werd! Thanks tkam!
  12. I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but my e-mail notifications are not working. I've tried all the various setting in my account and they don't work.
  13. Ok. So I've been spending some time with Dusty's 202 and my Lambda Pro. I can say that the Lambda pro is more detailed with better extension on the top and bottom. They're both fast and have good tonal accuracy. The big difference is weight...of sound. The 202 just sounds fuller, but at some loss of detail and speed vs. the Lambda Pro. I'll have a better review in the coming weeks. The 202 is no slouch though and I like it, but the Lambda Pro is a toe tapper for sure....it pulls me in more than the 202.
  14. The first CMOY I ever built.....it made a god aweful hissing noise all the time. That and the Simpl A1 amp previously mentioned. But there have been some other dissapointments along the way.

  16. LOL...I guess I'm old enough then Question: "So Timmy, do you like gladiator movies?"
  17. Just picked up a second Lambda Pro and SRM-1/MK2 driver unit. Now I've got a proper amp for the work rig
  18. Damn! Looks good Justin!
  19. Or does he just obfuscate it?
  20. G.A.S.? What's that stand for?

  22. One dude on Head-Fi has a 4070. Here's the thread: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=199219&highlight=stax+4070
  23. He's one of the folks I was thinking about.
  24. A few folks over at Head-Fi have had good results with the Aleph 3>SRD_7 Pro to Lambda pro combo. Not sure about the O2 though. Might be an interesting combo
  25. NO! We must argue, debate and eventually descend into calling each other rude and childish names. That's what high-end audio discussion boards are all about!
