6 channel...so it will be a 4 channel balanced and then you could also use it as two 3 channel single ended amps.

I never liked the Dynamight the few times I've heard it. Mostly someone paired it with a Qualia and I don't think that's the best combo. Yes...it'a actually pretty versatile. Since AMB designed it via single channel boards you can build it as follows: 2 channel 3 channel active ground 4 channel balanced 6 channel balanced (actually it's a 4 channel balanced the then two single ended 3 channel active ground)

If someone brings a Dynamight to the MD/DC/VA meet that could happen...my balanced Beta 22 should be done by then....I hope.

No the three leg thing is very stable. Plus it's easier to level a three legged item over a four legged item. If you get the listed hardware the stand is sturdy and stable enough.....perhaps not for a turntable rig, but I solved that by using 6 legs instead of three. Four legs on each corner touch the ground and the other two up the middle of each side adds support and weight. Right now the shelves are 3/4" MDF, but there's a guy on Audiogon who makes custom hardwood maple isolation platforms. I contacted him and he can also make platforms to order. I'm thinking 2" think maple would be nice But they won't be cheap. So for now, it's MDF.

http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/flexye.html I've built a few of those. I've used 6 threaded steel rods on my larger one to help add weight and stability. Pretty cheap and fun to build. You can get 24" X 48" X 3/4" MDF at Home Depot and have them rip it into 3 equal pieces. Then all you need are some 3/4" threaded steel rods and the associated hardware and you're in business. All of it is available from Home Depot. I think my large 5 shelf rack cost about $60-80 or so to build.

Perhaps if you used more blue LEDs? Audiophile gear has blue LEDs man....didn't you get the memo?!

I think it was $949 for the one in the pic...with the crazy PS. Apparently there's a less expensive PS in the works.....but yeah at that price if it doesn't outperform a PPX then why bother?
-
The other thread at Head-Fi said it would be in the $949 range.

Why is the Wheatfield so hard on tubes?

Peter, my meter has the ability to measure capcitance...let me know if you want to get together sometime and use it. -
Me too, man, me too. You know you're bad when you crack open new gear before you've even heard it....LOL.

personally I prefer stepped attenuators and I've been fortunate in that I can always find a volume level I like...just lucky I guess.

It seems to me that Apple is taking a new step with the iPhone. At that price point it doesn't seem like a mass market device...I think it's a move toward greater marketshare in the business world. Who uses smartphones? The people who are gadget geeks and then large companies that have employees who need access to e-mail, web...etc. away from the office. While I'm sure a smartpone can work with a Mac, it's not going to have the kind of integration that current smartphones have with windows macines/servers. Apple has earned some cultural capital with the iPod....their desktops are becoming more popular as well as their laptops. Now they have the whole package...they can walk up to a company and say, we've got desktop/laptop/smartphone that works together and the software to run it...you don't need anyone else....just us* While the pricepoint and service plans might not be mass consumer friendly right now, it'll come down...perhaps it's high enough to support larger discounts for corporate sales. Of course none of us have access to Apple's marketing data so it's all speculation. But if I were Steve Jobs I would want to make the most out of the foot in the door I have right now. The iMac/iPod/iTunes combo pulled them up from decline and their trying to grow. Apple is a hot, hip, young brand. Apple products are status symbols as well now. *and linux for your servers

Spoilers below I'm less likely to beleive that Laura Roslyn is a Cylon...I think it's either Admiral Adama or Starbuck. Most, (if not all) of the 4 revealed in the season finale have had vivid flashbacks. The only two that really didnt' were Anders and the president's assistant chick. I don't think it's Roslyn because she's in the dream with Caprica and Athena, but not as the 5 more as a witness. Spoiler Alert!

http://www.par-metal.com/ Par Metals has a 12 X 12 X 3 case...you can specifiy black as a colo if I'm not mistaken. It's one of their 20 series cases. You're probably going to pay more than $50-75 for it.

So I've spent enough time with the Lambda Woody Pro to offer some more detailed impressions: All comments are between the Lambda Pro Woody and a stock pair. When I first heard the Lambda Pro I was in heaven. I spent some time with the 202, 303 and 404 at meets and through loans from friends, but none of those headphones caught my attention like the Lambda Pro. It reaches out and grabs you. I finally got my hands on a NOS pair last Fall and I have never looked back. I have a hard time going back to dynamic cans now. If I do go back it will be for a high-end setup (K1000/F1, R10/Singlepower...etc.) and nothng less So yeah I like the Lambda Pro and the Lambda Signature. A lot. So after weeks of neglecting Headphile's Headphone Deals page I thought, "I wonder if Larry has anything special?" BAM! There they were, a pair of Lambda Pros with open back woodies. I jumped at the chance. Normally I hem and haw about these things and end up acting too late (well we all do, but I've missed some great stuff repeatedly, so I wasn't going to miss this). Not this time. I quickly checked my Paypal account and sent an e-mail off to Larry hoping I wasn't too late. Four days later I rushed home from work to get the package and fire up my amp. Two hours later I was deeply involved with A/B testing. My wife knows this mode...he's evaluating cans....let him play. So enough build-up, what's the skinny? Equipment: Wadia 23 (balanced out)>Stax SRM-T1S>Lambda Pro/Lambda Woody Overall the woodies retain the general charater of the stock Lambda Pro, but there are a few key differenes: Impact: Overall the woodies present a faster, tighter and more textured articulation. Drum hits, cymbals, acostic bass all have more snap and texture to the initial attack. This led to the resulting tones having greater texture and depth. There's a new layer of detail with the woodies. Dynamics: Dynamic differences are more prevalent with the woodies as well. Miles Davis's ghosted notes aren't completely lost with the woodies. If only I had these cans when I was playing and transcribing. Man, I could have knocked out solo transcriptions much faster. Sometimes you have to strain to hear the subtle nuances with the stock pair; the woodies lay them out for you. It is not overdone either, the woodies just offer a finer focus. Group and/or solo dynamics are better as well. Background and forefront dyanmics retain their space, but nothing covers anything else. The differences are less striking on this level between the two pairs. Detail and texture: I've covered these two items in the other two categories so I will be brief. The woodies have more detail and texture to the sound than the stock pair. You can hear the twang and texture of a string bass. The hammer quality of the piano. Drums are still a bit lacking in this department, but the woodies are an improvement over the stock pair. So there they are, my impressions. Feel free to aks more pointed questions though. I like the new woodies. A lot. So much that there will be a big FS thread soon. I need to raise some cash for a pair of Omega II. Between the OII and the woodies...well that'll take care of me for awhile. Cheers, thrice

Is there a good source for the plugs? I've been contemplating recabling a Stax 'phone, but everytime I think about it I hesitate due to the plug and also cracking open the phones. Do Lambda Series headphone come apart easily? I haven't even removed the pads on any of my pairs so I haven't seen how they're held together.

Funny thing is, I haven't checked it in weeks. I got a feeling this morning...I was about to leave for work and I thought about the Headphones Deals page. I thought I'd check at work, but just figured it would take a few seconds. It was only up on the page for an hour or so at that point. Considering home many great deals I've missed on eBay and Audiogon, I wasn't going to let this one pass...it was worth being a little late for work
-
I'm looking forward to it. There may be a stock Lambda Pro up for sale soon.

Well, just pulled the trigger on another Stax headphone...I guess a variation on a theme if you will. Like Tom Petty said, "The waiting is the hardest part."
