It was a retermination....the cable is a four wire job straight to the plug. So i cut off the plug about 4 inchs back and reterminated it with a 4-pin xlr. I might do a full recable later, but it's always a pain....I wish headphone manufactureres could get together and decide on one standard for these things. Well I'm still bringing them in but balanced they sound great.

I went with two sigma ps because it will eventually be a 6-channel thing. You really only need one for 4 boards. That's a nice little PS the sigma.... The amp is dead quiet.....dead quiet. The gain is 2 (balanced 4) and when I crank up the attenuators...nothing but silence.

LOL...."me love you long time"

Pretty darn good. There is still a little headstage funkiness going on...it's hard to describe. It's not a three blob affect, but it kinda is too. I need more time with them to form any serious impressions

I can't help but think he's the Andy Kaufman of Hi-end headphones. If we were to have an Andy Kaufman that is.... -
If I tell you I do it all with a hand drill will you worship me Just kidding. But I do it all with a hand drill, I don't have a drill press. I use a unibit and a panel punch for the holes for the XLR jacks.

I'll be in tampa this weekend...besides, I don't know if I want to know how they sound with this amp...ignorance and all that But soon my friend.

My contribution to the madness...just finished yesterday: Take one of these: Put one of these on it: Build this: and this: plug them in and.... viola! Eventually I'll get the two ground channel boards for the single-ended capabilities, but for now it's balanced heaven.

The stax amp has one XLR input....which consists of two jacks, one for the right channel and one for the left channel. So there are two jacks that make up the single balanced input that amp has. If it had two balanced inputs it would have 4 balanced jacks. Each input has two jacks, one for the right channel and one for the left channel be it RCA, or XLR.

I think you misunderstand me. You said: I assumed from your post that you were still talking about the SRM-007t amp (that goes with the Omega II). Your next paragraph seems to indicate that you are asking about using the HD650 with that amp....you cannot. It's an electrostatic headphone amp, not a dynamic headphone amp. Moreover the RCA/XLR specs they cite are the inputs. The SRM-007t amp has two sets of RCA inputs (two single-ended sources) and one set of balanced input (1 balanced source). The output jack of the SRM-007t amp is a 5-pin plug that Stax headphones use.....quite different from the typical 1/4 jack or balanced XLR connectors used for dynamic amps.
-
If you're referring to the 007t then you cannot run your HD650 off that amp. It's for electrostatic headphones only and would fry your HD650 pretty quick.

impressive indeed.

Looks like Mike Vick is facing some new allegations....

Wow, I'm not prone to outburst like this but, I hope they throw the book at that fucker and nail him to the fucking wall. I understand that many people consider pets and dogs "just animals" but that's no reason to abuse and train them to kill for sport. Sick fuckers like that ought to be thrown in the ring with their dogs....let 'em bite the hand that beats them. -
I've got all three seasons here so if you come up for the meet nate we can get in our jammies friday night, make some popcorn and do each other's hair while we watch it I mean....kick the shit out of each other while watching donkey show porn and swilling beer......yeah, that's it.

It cna be purchsed on iTunes, rented via Netflix and I'm sure stolen via the interwebs. The episodes at 1.5 hrs and .5 hours long alternating. Cheers, Stephen PS....this show rules the toolz with laserz and phaserz

I hear that virgin baby seal unicorn hair is a bit harsh in the upper register.

Hey I've got a seduction phono preamp that's developed a problem. I get a low level: thu, thuk, thuk, thuk sound out of both channels. it's not bad with the stock tubes, but with a pair of amperex bugle boys it interferes with the music. It's a fast rhythmic pulsing that is channel independant (shows up in both). I've tried replacing the caps in the PS and the heater PS since someone on the Bottlehead forum suggested it might be "motorboating" but that didn't work. All voltages check out on the amp except pins 1 and 6 on each tube. Both should measure 70V, but one measures 73 on one tube and the other tube it's 67. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yes, I checked to see if B+ and the heater voltages fluctuate either with or without music playing and both a rock solid where they should be (160 and 6) Any help is greatly appreciated.

I agree, all too often US TV shows keep going for as long a they can, look at the X-files...that show lasted 3 seasons too long. I love the UK version of the Office, because they knew when to quit...it left you wanting a little more, but satisified with what you got. Lost is another example....they're going to milk it for as long as they can, until we're annoyed and the show quality drops. So seeing Battlestar Galactica go out on a bang instead of junmping the shark makes me happy...I wish more shows did this. Come up with a great idea, let it run its course and the move on to the next great idea.

Anyone here heard Headroom's Balanced Desktop?
thrice replied to KenW's topic in Headphone Amplification
Yeah I gotta say, it's a pretty sexy little amp. I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but when I heard it at the NY meet, I was impressed...well as impressed as you can be when you're listening to HD650 > -
regretting that purchase yet granodemostasa....yesh, no love here....course I don't like them either for a lot of the same reasons.
-
Does it include the PS? How about an enclosure? There's a lot left unsaid in that ad and I'm not sure it includes everthing you would need to build the complete amp. That is a pretty low price though.
-
The only reason to 6 over 4 is to have two three channel single ended amps built in...the 2 additional channels will be ground channels and not used in the balanced configuration.
-
If you built it, depending on parts...somewhere in the $1500-$2000 department (that's a questimate since I have not been keeping track, but I do know that it cost about $600 to get the parts minus a case for the 3 channel b22). If someone made it for you... well I know what I would charge
