  1. Why use what's already provided when you can crack it open, mod it and then use that?
  2. Cool, I suppose you could disable the analog output and reroute the SPDIF signal to the 1/8" jack and then just fashion a cable to from the Airport Express to a DAC.
  3. You're kidding!?!?!?!?!?
  4. I would appear so, looking at the poor pics from the back of the unit, it doesn't have a DAC built in, just looks like a wireless receiver. You can't get a SPDIF signal from an Airport express though, just optical and analog. Can you get a USB signal from it?
  5. http://www.computeraudiophile.com/node/127 Here's a link to more about that Resolution Audio device...apparently they had it hooked up to a Mac mini and used an iPod Touch as the remote via some software called Signal. Apparently a Mac mini makes a good media server. Who knew?
  6. Indeed
  7. *COUGH*K340*COUGH*
  8. LOL* *fuck you.
  9. I'm a fanboy of your* mom. *collectively speaking
  10. I hate to quibble, but that's the same promotional/marketing stuff Apple focuses on with all of their consumer computers...iLife, the photos, front row, movies, personal website creation...etc. It's all a part of their digital lifestyle campaign that started back with the original iMac in the late 90's. The Mac mini, while it makes a great little media server, was brought into the lineup to replace the old eMac which was their budget machine. This is the same thing...designed to help people switch to mac effortlessly by getting rid of their old PC, keeping the keyboard and monitor and just swapping out the CPU with the Mac mini. The Wadia iTransport is the first product announced that will pull a digital audio signal off the iPod through use of an authentication chip that communicates with the iPod and tells the iPod that it is OK to send the raw digital data through (prolly i2S or something like that). It does this for only $350 and via no modification of the iPod. I'd say that's pretty exciting...not only that, but lots of people have iPod....how many million have they sold? tens of millions? While the Mac mini may be the more sensible choice for those people looking to base a their home theater/stereo around, I can see this as being a very successful product for those people who already have a home theater setup via traditional components and want to add their iPod to the mix. Sorry to be crass about it, I didn't mean to be rude, but sometimes these things get panned before anyone has all the facts and details. I'd also like to think that Wadia has done some market research to see if this would be a financially viable product to bring to market. Nothing gets my blood boiling faster than comments about new products that pan the product before it's even gotten off the ground; somehow I doubt the causal user has the access to broad market data that would allow them them the insight to determine whether something will be successful. I got carried away and it's my hang-up...again, my apologies.
  11. Can I get first in line for the Diablo ?
  12. Cook until it's done....or when it melts.
  13. examples? what are your favs? 'course a good arbeg or lagavulin cures all that ails.
  14. Well, it's late and there's no update on HF, so either they're having sooo much fun with whatever Senn has announced, or the IEMs were it along with the wireless jobs...kinda Meh if you ask me.
  15. Well, Chimay is a good place to start, but f you like Whiskey you might try some Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. Duvel is also a very fine ale as well.
  16. I wonder if this is something that will eventually replace the Squeezebox? I mean it seems like it's the same thing as a Squeezebox with the screen functions transferred to the remote. That remote looks sweet BTW.
  17. I can see the value of this as an office item...I don't really want to go through the trouble of setting up another computer in my office and then trying to keep the tunes in my office library up to date with the stuff on my home computer...I don't want to have to transport new CDs back and forth to work just to put them on my office computer....I take my iPod with me to work already...BAM, now I just use this dock and I've got a SPIDF out from my iPod. I seem to recall that a lot of people have wanted something like this for a long time. There are whole threads about how people wish they could get a digital out from their iPod, and here it is. It has apparently been there just blocked via Apple's authentication chip (as mentioned in an earlier post in this thread). It might not be long before we see a lineout dock that offers SPDIF or USB output as well... which really excites me. I see the video out as not necessary for my needs, but I suspect Wadia would get more crap for NOT including video output capabilities. You're kidding right... I mean picking on Billy is practically a hobby here so I get that, but claiming that Wadia only intends this for home use and that it's laughable that anyone would even dream of using it in some other capacity seems, well stupid. I know you're smarter than that. Yes a Mac mini is a better bang for the buck alternative to this in your home theater/stereo rack. Some people might laugh at those using a computer like that....more trouble than it's worth... blah blah blah. Your example of using a Mac mini as an entertainment server is very similar to using this new dock in an office environment; it's not the Mac mini home entertainment server, it's was intended as a low price computer. Apple probably designed it as such to help get people to switch...have an old Dell, well toss ut the CPU, save the monitor and keyboad and BAM, buy a Mac. It's certainly nice that it works as a home media/entertainment server, but that's not how it was marketed. But there's no crime in that now is there? Get over yourselves.
  18. I don't know, looks like it's good for a work source. I'd love to get better sound out of my iPod and run it to an OPUS DAC/CKKIII balanced amp combo and just rock out with the HD600 at work. If it features a SPDIF out on the back I'm all over it. Does it have an internal DAC or just offers a digital out?
  19. Ah well in that case, bumpers is perfect.
  20. Bumpers huh? I don't know, Dr. Snuggle seems more appropriate...too bad he's not a she, you could have named her Cybill.
  21. Can't we just change Billy's name to Pretty Princess and call it a night?
  22. I'd have to agree on this....while I love the iPhone (friend has one and I've played with them at Apple stores), I just can't see being locked into AT&T/Cingular and their service. While I don't have firsthand experience with them, I've heard horror stories from friends and I've never had an issue with Verizon...never one dropped call. Having said that...get the iPhone. Or just get a cheap ass phone and an iPod Touch.
  23. oh god, they don't line up after the first pass.....NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
