A picture tells a story. Not sure about SR-007 with KGSS but here is GS-1000 with probably a headroom amp, notice a huge peak at HF that starts at 4K in GS-1000.

Duct tape, is that better than leather?
-
Who da fuck cares if it's leather or not. The thing I noticed it that Mk1 pads form a tight seal, Mk2 pads don't do (not designed that way) that just as Jade pads do not seal much. So I figure Stax used the material to achieve a specific goal with Mk1 pads. To be hones I could not get a Mk2 to fit the right way so I am not at liberty to disscuss how they sound

Since this is a thread about Krautrock I think it's OK to ask folks this. Does any one have the following albums in flac or good vinyl rip: NIAGARA NIAGARA LP United Artists Records UAS 29232 (1971) S.U.B.(2/1972) LP United Artists Records UAS 29343 (1972) AFIRE (1972) LP Finger 2960 102 (1973)

I have purchased a few digital publications about Kraut, if you want to take a look at them PM me.

Lovely album, too bad the CD is impossible to find for a normal price

Let me give you some recommendations. I will break the bands in groups, names in bold are especially cool (IMHO), based on the basic approach to sound: Jazzy sounding: Annexus Quam Alcatraz Anima Between Cornucopia Dzyan Embryo Eiliff G

If I was in CARMEL, CA I would get them AudiogoN ForSale: Sound lab A3

The soundstage to me is big but it is not very accurate, you do not have the layering that SR-007 has for example. Overall Jade's tonal balance was just wrong for my ears, they sounded wrong is the mids somehow and soundstage was artificial. But keep in mind meet conditions were not ideal and I had to blast them so who knows if I would like them more after some prolonged exposure in the comfort of my own home

....but I had a chance to listen to Jade and not I am less exited about HE1.2B cos I did not like Jade all that much.

I had a blast talking to people and listening to gear as well. Deepak and Monkey were as cool as they are on the forums Deepak's HP-1 were a nice conversation starter as people liked them a lot. My YHE-50A were a surprise to a lot of people as they looks like toys and sound like big headphones

This FR graph makes me drool. I also love the LNS graph.

I had both stock and modded YH-1 and I sold stock. They are nice stock, but sound a bit muddy and unfocused. Proper modding makes them sound clean and tight with very good and fast bass. You loose a bit of bass quantity but quality is what you gain. By the way the only ortho that, to my ears, that has a bit of that SR-007 signature is my modded T50RPv2 (new T50 with latest pads and cotton and felt mods). T50RPv2 has this uncanny ability to pull out a lot of details and sound very resolving while still being warm and a bit bassy. The sad things is that there seems to be a lot of variation in how T50RPs sound, so getting the correct version is the key here.

Nice writeup. YH/HP-1 are very nice and properly modded sound very close to some stats but with more bass impact. The drivers are capable of great transient response and are very fast across the board, but the kicker is that these things capable of bass impact at time even greater than best dynamic cans. This combination of stat speed and great bass make them killer rock and metal headphones. YH-100 is even better, but Fostex T20 and T50RP are a surprise as they are cheap and plentiful and sound as good as Yamahas with better soundstage.

How does it compare to SR-3?
-
So were they fixed? I assume they are if you are listening to them. The quality does not seem to be very good as the entire cup/headband assembly is held in place with just that tiny screw

Artist: Soft Machine Album: Soft Machine 2 Song: Hulloder

I would not say they are "Utter crap". Juts not a very good example of orthodynamic headphones. I am sure you can play with some mods and make them sound OK. But don't expect something spectacular.
