Me and my Zana Deux (+ pics)...
aardvark baguette replied to mulveling's topic in Headphone Amplification
Besides, arent the special capacitors used in the Zana out of stock now? -
Just subscribed to Music Matters 45RPM vinyl monthly releases Should be 2 titles per month. All of which I am having ripped

I have some 192 aac too, but I got tired of constantly encoding wav to alac, then encoding alac to aac, so I just went back to puting the lossless on the phone. I use the iphone to hear whatever music is most recent, as I am always buying stuff. It gets changed several times a week anyway. ------ Update; yes, foobar does convert alac to flac in one step . Now I have to set up the folder structure, re-encode, then scan all my album covers. May as well get started...
-
Is Flac level 5 the most widely used?
-
The thing for me is, since I'm using EAC on a pc to rip, it would be easier to switch to flac anyway. The album art thing was the final straw. Actually, that and the fact that every once in a while an ALAC file will stop playing mid-song on my iphone and go to the next song. I check the same song on the pc and the whole song plays. That is very rare, but my guess is its a buffer issue.
-
I'm going to try this tonight. I already have the ALAC decoder dll for foobar for playback. If it can convert straight to flac (bypassing the whole wav process) then I'm sold. YAY = ALAC > FLAC NAY = ALAC > WAV > FLAC
-
It strikes rarely, but it strikes hard. For example, on my iphone, the art for Congregation (johnny griffin) is fine. In iTunes and Foobar on pc, it is all gray, save for the top 15 percent of the image. The more common form is when i upload parts of my library to my ipod or iphone, and there is no cover art whatsoever. And its not like I disconnect while its loading or whatever. I think I like flac better for pc playback; I can keep the image in a folder. (Plus it wont be downgraded the way it does sometimes in iTunes). I also want larger images then commonly found on the net.

For scanning album art. I'm thinking of switching to FLAC. (Currently using ALAC). iTunes seems to lose or corrupt album art occasionally (probably 'cause its embedded)

Enjoy.

well whatever type of network I had, it couldn't be on their Internet. So if I had a mac mini all by itself, how would it 'network' without other computers or networks or internet connection? Is it still achievable? If I have to buy a router, I may as well get a monitor instead, I would think. Are we talking personal area network? (I'm not much of a network buff, as you can tell)
-
I looked into VNC and signal; it wouldnt be ideal for my office, mainly because I cant have 'streaming' stuff on the network, or music apps for that matter. For ex. we cant install iTunes or Foobar on the computers because IT thinks we dont know what we're doing (even though I singlehandedly manage 12 societies web sites ) Thats why I am getting my own computer of some sort, completely detached from their precious network. And they can go to hell, and lose out on sharing my music.

I told Justin black picos were fine, when I heard that clear was not in stock. But I told him if he happened to have any clear knobs, to put them on a black amp. (clear is silver). Dusty; the Rockville CompUSA? I thought that was turned into a Microcenter. I haven't been that far up the pike in a while though. The only other one I know of was in Columbia Crossing, up in Columbia. Haven't been up there in a while either.

I hope I'm close. I have no idea though. I ordered from email, and never used a headfi name, so I'm not on the web list. I think I originally ordered the GS1 back in september. I assume changing the order later moved me to the bottom of the list, as if I just ordered that day. Which is fine. I probably will sell one. No need for two, unless I want a bedside rig 5 feet away from my computer rig at home
-
The reason I had 2 picos on order is I had originally ordered a gs1, but changed the order several months into the wait, having read all the positive pico reviews. I figured ordering two would be at a closer price point than asking for a partial refund so far into an order.
-
I've never tried 'signal'. I do have an iphone though. I have 2 picos on order, but I could sell them and get the duet, but wouldnt bother unless it's DAC section was better. (Is it?). And if the Pico wasnt compatible w/ mac. I think I'd be more comfortable sorting though hundreds of gigs of music on a monitor, but signal does sound interesting. Of course, I guess hypothetically I could sneak into the office on the weekend and install this: Who knows what kind of video card horsepower would be needed though. One panel for album art, one for lyrics...

I just moved into my new 'space' in the office, and have been looking into what to getting for audio. Its ever-evolving, but here is the current idea I have: The HD is 2TB. I have used one previously, and it is whisper quiet and cool. The one I used didnt have the black stripe, but that is probably just a recent cosmetic change.

The mcintosh looks awesome, but I have to honestly wonder how much of it is just a pretty face.

Depends on what you want to send the drive to to 'play'. I dont personally have any drives with all the one-touch type stuff installed, and if I do, I dont use them. I just move folders manually. Its the only way I've ever really liked doing. So nothing like the mac 'time machine' etc. Also, I think alot of the one-touch stuff is geared towards folks who need their C Drive, or OS drive backed up. Frankly, alot of those people have nothing on their computer more important than the latest rounds of email jokes and computer games. For people needing significant backups of audio and whatnot (i.e. anyone reading this thread) I dont personally think the one-touch stuff is necessary. Just my opinion though. A few things to consider; price, noise and physical storage space. Physical space meaning how much room on your desk for external drives. The economical way to go would be smaller drives, and add more as you need them. The downside would be noise (multiple drives = more noise) and less desk room. The pricey way to go would be larger drives, which yeilds less noise (typically) and more desk room, since you would need fewer HD cases. My personal pref. is the largest drives possible in the smallest enclosures possible, price be damned. All I know is I have no intention of ever stopping musical purchases, and will always be adding material to my drives (save for occasions of saving $ for speakers )

Anyone see musicdirec.com/American Express ad?

Poppycock. You fools and your cryo gobbledygook. Microwaving cables is where the magics's at. Especially wrapped in tin foil shielding. It excites all the molecules into a ready-like state. -

Corsair is pretty good. I've used their Dominator 1142 MHZ ram, and their 800MHZ DD2 stuff. The dominator was blazing fast, but then overheated and stopped working Still, it was pretty good stuff while it lasted, though that is just from memory
