  1. I look forward to reading Nenso's column.
  2. Yesterday I formatted some hard drives for use in my new Drobo that has finally arrived. The internet went out, so I started reading Lord of the Rings. I'll probably do the same tonight.
  3. JL Gotham.
  4. We have an old linksys p.o.s. and sometimes doing all the reboots/etc only work if I restart the actual computer after the troubleshooting.
  5. Well JP is catholic so....
  6. Metallica.com To be sure it wasnt just their streaming that sucked, I also previewed at the iTunes music store (you have to have iTunes open). The iTunes sounded just as bad.
  7. I'd go with the one about the FDA. Tech is going to change, but the FDA ain't going anywhere.
  8. The phones will sound different, no doubt. But I personally dont want to let my headphones be any sort of deciding factor for which CD player I get. In my case, the headphones cost me ~$330. Even at $1000, its not something I'd want to place emphasis on, if I was looking at any source $3k and up. My general attitude is, give me something as neutral yet natural as possible, with good tone and data retrieval, mico and macro. The headphones will add their own sound on it, but I just dont see that as a deciding factor. I know most disagree, and strive for synergy, but I'll probably be running god-knows-what brand of speakers with the same CD player eventually, using god-knows-what amp. I want a CD player that will work with anything. Maybe thats a bit lofty though. I suppose if I were looking for slightly cheaper sources, I may view it a bit differently.
  9. Happy Birthday, Hippie.
  10. I've been in the same situation, only with HD650s & HP4. Mentally, I think I've thus far eliminated Esoteric off my list of candidates, as well as Rega. The ones I'm looking at now are the Capitole Mk II, Ear Acute, Cary 306, Emm Labs, and the Krell. More or less in that order, I suppose. It makes little difference now, since I have to save a bit for any of the above anyway. Hopefully I'll have narrowed down my choices by the time I've got the money. The Ear Acute doesn't have a digital input. Not an outright deal-breaker, but its something I'd like to have for simplicity's sake, as I've got plenty of lossless on my computer. But some of the reviews have been very enticing, to say the least.
  11. Oh yeah. TTVJ does the same thing. I guess they don't understand that the link needs to go to the larger version i.e. different file. Often times I click on images only to see a smaller version I think its mostly laziness, not ignorance. Its not like its hard to do.
  12. Thanks for putting that issue to rest for me. I was hoping for an input for computer playback, in a perfect world. The reviews do seem to be pretty positive.
  13. I'll fax it first thing in the morning.
  14. Yeah. Its just that it gives me a bit of insight into the company's sound, at least hopefully.
  15. From the few available reviews, the EAR seems to have a good tone. Especially in the mids. In SACD players, the general thinking seems to be that Emm Labbs has better tone than Ayre and Esoteric. I've seen at least one review say that he prefers the EAR redbook to the Emm Labbs SACD. Also, one review said the display is the only thing left un-fooled around with. New transformer-based outputs and analog filters were mentioned. I also really dig the tone of my HP4.
  16. There isnt really one. Its just simply how long to wait while I save.
  17. Actually, I think I will be going to speakers in due time. Nothings set in place yet, but I've been considering getting into a house within the next year, before the prices go back up. This area is impossibly expensive. If I do have my own place, I'm going to go hog wild with a sound room.
  18. Its due to all the data density.
  19. One of the sources I've been considering upgrading to for CD playback. I'm trying to find out if there is any sort of digital input, which would eliminate the need for the Bel Canto, and free that up for another rig. I haven't seen anything about inputs, only outputs. If anyone knows if this has any sort of digital input, I'd appreciate you mentioning it. Thanks.
  20. I tried to listen, but it sounds like a 32kpps bitstream. Fuck that.
