  1. This just in. The real reason I use film caps in the power supplies of my tubes amps is so that I don't have to worry about getting the polarity wrong and blowing up the cap.
  2. Liquor. Beer makes me sleepy.
  3. I'm just going to take this opportunity to say that you're a worthless dipshit.
  4. The solution of course is to rip out the tranformers in the speakers and build a high voltage tube amp which couples directly to the electrostat panels. Or you could build a transistor amp that runs at around 200V or so and use a transformer with a smaller step-up ratio to drive the speakers. There's a guy in my area who uses the latter approach with great success on his Quad 57's.
  5. For sure. I have albums which sound better on my SR225 than my RS-1.
  6. You could say he's not a follower of the "amp first" camp...
  7. I'll have to check the charts over on TOD to be sure, but as I recall the UK, EU, and Canada are paying the equivalent of roughly $70-85 US for a barrel of oil right now. In Canada for instance, we should've been at around $1.15-$1.20 per litre gas this summer, but thanks to the USD taking a dive we were paying around $1.00 or so. Yeah, and despite all the high prices they're still running short of petrol in some places. Prices still haven't hit the point where they're really starting to hurt people.

There isn't one. They banned me one day and deleted a bunch of my posts, and that was that. Prior to that I caused a ton of shit with dretardwells, gsferrari, Ori, the ALO cable asshole, and a bunch of other shitheads whose names I can't remember. I guess they finally decided to get rid of me so they could keep the worthless dipshits happy, but who knows?
  9. Given that economists have a less than 50% accuracy rate on predicting which way oil prices are headed, and that most of them still believe oil's headed back down to $65 a barrel once OPEC/Russia/Canada/Mexico/insert country ramps up production, I'd say yes. Or rather, my information sources, that being Matthew R. Simmons, Kenneth Deffeyes, and the guys at theoildrum.com are a hell of a lot smarter than the pie in the sky economists & traders. Given that oil production has stagnated since the peak in 2005, and that stockpiles & inventories in the US have dropped by nearly 20% in the last year alone, it's a sure bet that prices are headed up, not down. In fact, in inflation adjusted dollars, we are now just a few dozen cents below the all-time high set in 1979 during Iranian hostage crisis.
  10. I think so too. I've had an SR225 and HD580 for something like 4-5 years now, and despite getting an RS-1 last year I still like the 225.
  11. I saw the Perseids meteor shower this summer, and another time when it was a meteor storm. I learned that wishing upon a shooting star doesn't work, unfortunately.
  12. If I wanted to make truckloads of money, I'd trade in oil & gasoline futures before the economists and traders figure out the concept of Peak Oil.
  13. You can use the money to buy a new cartridge for your turntable.
  14. It's not unsupported. It's clearly a highly advanced mechanical isolation design to prevent vibration from degrading the workings of the circuit.
  15. An RS-1 will solve all your remaining issues, and give you more goodness.
  16. Tell him he needs better amps, and convince him to build them.

  18. No, stirring up shit is so last year, literally. we don't do that anymore and it's frowned upon.
  19. Merry New Year!
  20. Wooo!!! Party at deepak's parents' house!!!
  21. Maybe I watched too much Rocky & Bullwinkle in my youth, but when I hear the name "Boris", more often than not I end up cracking up for no good reason.
  22. This is a very good thing. Choke input power supplies are good when using tube rectifiers, and even better when there's more stages of choke filtering. Lots of iron is good, makes for an easy life for the rectifier tube and a nice quiet power supply. Anyways, thanks for the excellent impressions & writeup, looks like the Trafomatic will be the amp to beat in the under $1k range and should be competive with amps a fair bit above its price point.
  23. I don't know if you've noticed, but the title of this thread is "what tubes are you using?" and not "pimp my Darkvoice amps".
  24. http://www.vacuumstate.com/white_papers/index.htm Download the PDF files, print them out, and enjoy. Worked great for my turntable.
  25. Well...other than the fact that it's a slut and it's been with more people than I care to count...
