  1. Artist: Blink 182 Album: The Mark Tom and Travis Show Song: "Blew Job" Lyric: "It would be nice, to get a blowjob from your mom"
  2. The SA5000 was the worst headphone I've ever heard until I had the trauma of hearing a DT880. The tone is crap, it can't do decays in the midrange or bass, the treble goes "SSSSZZZZSZSZSZSS" forever, and the resolution is only slightly better than Senn 580. The only good thing about it is that it's comfortable, though I imagine the mesh headband will pick up a bunch of funk from your head over time. The RS-1 rules and I'm not saying that because I own one, I've liked it since the first time I heard it something like 5 years ago. If you want "flat & neutral", you can forget about it. The RS-1 just makes things sound right, especially in the midrange. Detail, resolution, speed is all far above my Senn 580, makes it sound like a cheap toy in comparison, beats out my K340 pretty easily as well. The soundstage is typical Grado, moderately sized, upfront, but with very complete and seamless, there are no blobs or holes. I've found the imaging and portrayal of 3D space to be better than my K340 which was the previous best, the K340 tends to beam some sounds in a cone while the RS-1 lets the sound radiate naturally into 3D space. I haven't heard the others yet, I'd imagine the MS-Pro to be similar to the RS-1, the others, who knows?
  3. He said it would be around $3k to $3.5k in parts alone for the Lundahl version, the tubes by themselves come out to something like $1.6k. Way beyond my budget unless I win the lottery or something, and doing a good parts layout is likely beyond my skills as well.
  4. MachMat VCCS filament supply Gary Pimm CCS Design by HF member Roam, traced out by me while I was over at his place to pick up transformers for my own project. Yes I have his permission to post it. I spent about 20-30 minutes listening to it out of his Capitole CDP and my RS1, this amp is good, stupid good, but also stupid expensive thanks to the transformers and Emission Labs AD1 tubes. He says he has what should be a slightly purer version in the works using WE 205E's on the front end, but it may sacrifice a bit of bandwidth. No PSU schematic yet as he's still waiting for some parts to come in so it's running off an adjustable benchtop PSU. Can also be built with Lundahls, using the LL1676, LL1635, and LL1620, with something like the Prometheus TVC as the volume control. Still not cheap, and it'll still weigh a ton.
  5. Mercury vapour rectifiers. Let's just say dropping one would not be a good thing.
  6. Mayberry on Acid meet impressions thread. It's the big 4 chassis amp, you can't miss it.
  7. Take a Sharpie to them! You could, but then they'd be more likely to pick up hum from the power transformers and chokes. It's a form follows function issue, the signal path of the amp is laid out from back to front to give the shortest possible signal path. The input goes in the back and comes out the front in a straight line. If we do the standard layout where the tubes are in the front and the transformer out back, the input signal has to be brought up to the front, then fed through the circuit, and the output brought from the back to the front panel. Signal path is longer and there's more chance for picking up hum & noise. Misc. notes. A CCS for the DHT filament supply and choke input HV PSU, nice.
  8. Tango and Tamura are overrated, at least as far as their interstages & outputs are concerned. Tributes kill them.
  9. Though I suspect it will be pretty expensive with a 2-3 month wait time, you could order up a set of custom transformers from Tribute. I've heard their input, interstage, and output transformers and they're all outstanding, so I'd imagine their step-up would also be superb.
  10. They used to use the S&B TX103, but I think they had some kind of falling out in the business dealings and had to go searching for a new supplier. The last time I checked which was around 3-4 months ago, I think, they were still looking around.
  11. I remember reading a test on various step-up transformers in AudioXpress sometime within the last year. As I recall, but I could be wrong, the Cinemag step-up had the best squarewave & frequency response specs. I can't really remember what they said about the sound though, or which cartridge(s) they used for the test.
  12. Yeah, it's called marijuana residue.
  13. Don't worry, you're not missing anything, in fact I'd argue it's a good thing to be spared the pain & suffering and PTSD from listening to Ultrasones.
  14. Near blizzard conditions right now, heavy snow with really strong winds. Visibility is around 100-150', and it's fucking cold with the goddamn windchill. I went outside to take a few pictures this afternoon and damn near got frostbite on my fingers.
  15. Once it stops snowing, which according to the forecast is sometime tomorrow evening, I'll go take some pictures of my area. The unfortunate suckers who live on the dead end streets already have 8' snowbanks.
  16. Apparently not...
  17. It does, but then you have to clean off the WD-40 residue with alcohol whereas lighter fluid evaporates away quickly and cleanly.
  18. I have the heaters on a couple RCA grey glass 1633's (25V 6SN7) go bad, one of them was easily fixed by resoldering the tube pins since the heater wire somehow managed to break loose from the pin, the other one was a write-off.
  19. Lighter fluid. I'm serious, it really works. Safe for pretty much all metal surfaces and most plastics.
  20. Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Revisted at Massey Hall. They played the full Trinity album straight through and then had the encore, so it was a good thing I took a wizz right before the concert started since there wasn't an intermission for pee breaks. Best part, Margo saying in between songs (paraphrased) "I'm not sure why people have 'To love is to bury' as their wedding song. It's about a murder-suicide".
  21. Not that I needed yet another reason to boycot Monster Cables...

    UPS Sucks

If it can be broken, UPS will find a way to break it. There's a reason they're called United Parcel Smashers.
  24. That doesn't help when one is born with a medical condition, such as the ones I mentioned.
  25. Assuming everyone is healthy with no pre-existing conditions. If someone has asthma, certain allergies, diabetes, hemophilia or any one of a large number of conditions, the premium will be a lot closer to $4000 a month than $400. That is if the insurance company doesn't outright deny them coverage.
