  1. Did a bunch of daytrading, laughed at all the idiots who shorted oil and claimed that it was on its way down below $100 a barrel (not only did they lose their money, the price hit the stop limits so they couldn't even cover their shorts), went to the library to pick up more CDs, washed my car, had a barbecue. Checked the real estate listings for my area to see if prices are going down yet.
  2. Neil Young still tours, I missed his concert at Massey Hall this past year but I've been to one of his past concerts. Definitely go if you ever have the chance. My list: Jesse Cook Emmylou Harris Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (will be off the list as of July 14 )

Associated Press Link This is why you shouldn't do "pressed hams" when mooning.
  4. Probably because he didn't see the other half of your posts...

  6. To broadly generalize, when you crank a single driver speaker the sound craps out and all kinds of nasty colourations become blatantly obvious and annoying. Up to a certain volume level, the colourations are relatively benign and even charming, but push past that point and it quickly gets shouty, hard, farty, and annoying, not to mention suffering massive dynamic compression. Single drivers can't play Motorhead at Motorhead volumes.
  7. Wow, so your library request system works for the entire state of Hawaii? That's gotta be pretty sweet, I can only get holds for materials held by the city of Toronto system, then again, I think we have something like 90-100 libraries in Toronto so it's a pretty extensive catalogue. It's a great system, it's really helped me explore and listen to music that I otherwise wouldn't know of.
  8. Woke up at 5am, went to work, did some grocery shopping, currently in the library to pick up a bunch of books and CDs I have on hold. Eyeing the MILF sitting at the computer across from me.
  9. If it has Jenalabs cables or anything which looks ike JL cables, run away. Try to get the history of K340 you're buying, and find out who did what mods on it if it has been modded. Then search their posting history on head-fi, and if you find something like "need help with soldering" or "how do I solder cables to my K340's?", well, that's not a good sign. Also, check for pictures of the modder's other DIY work, if any. They'll give an indication of how good the guy is and whether he knows what he's doing. Along those lines, find out who's owned the particular pair of headphones and what their impressions have been. Other notes. I'd much prefer to have the original plastic screens intact, you can always cut out the plastic later and go with some kind of fabric or foam covering, but once if it's already cut out you can't go back. As already mentioned, the K340 wants amp power, and lots of it. Treat it as a K1000 and you won't be too far off.
  10. http://lemmymovie.com/ The last part of the teaser provides a reason for getting mono and other STDs.
  11. It wasn't an earthquake, he just turned up the volume on his new amp to "11".
  12. So far I'm using Composer - Song name - Performer (eg. Liszt - R
  13. So that's who JimP is in real life...
  14. She lives in The Netherlands, so more likely than not, lighting up a smoke would mean she got stoned. Uneventful day today, went to work, did some grocery shopping, made & ate dinner, went biking, and now I'm wasting time on the computer while listening to my vinyl rig.
  15. Went mountain biking with a couple friends and filmed some footage for our movie. Also shot a bunch of pictures with my digital camera while we were at it.
  16. 25. Ok, so there isn't a shopping mall or movie theatre anywhere near me, but in terms of the essentials I'm pretty much covered. Food, bars & restaurants, hardware stores, post office, sporting goods, barber shops, parks and a couple libraries, all that's within easy walking range. But it's still nice to have a car since that gives me more time for relaxing and enjoying my hobbies.
  17. Well, yes, but it feels kinda weird that I now own audiophile approvedtm albums which writers in Stereophile, TAS, and all the other mags gush about all the time.

    dvorak

I tried a Dvorak keyboard in university once, it didn't end well. I have several of his symphonies on LP and borrowed a couple of them on CD from the local library. The LP's are really fun to listen to, they got me through income tax season, the CD's, bleh, they just don't sound right.
  19. Well, I didn't exactly buy it, but I was pressured into taking a couple Patricia Barber CDs at an audio meet a few weeks ago. I feel like a dirty audiophile snob now.
  20. Better get your tickets now if you haven't already done so, rising oil prices and the financial sector implosion are going to drive up airline ticket prices quite a bit between now and then. Just give them a few beers and they'll be fine. Observe!
  21. That and "To Live is to Die" and "Dyers Eve" from ...And Justice For All Another Girl's Paradise/Scarlet's Walk/Virginia is probably the combo I've played the most in recent years. Either that or Sweet Sangria/Your Cloud/Pancake/I Can't See New York, also off Scarlet's Walk by Tori Amos.
  22. Capi's. We called it the mafia pizza joint since there were always luxury cars with tinted windows parked outside the place, and most of them were driven by Italian guys. Also, the place was empty most of the time and we couldn't figure out how they were staying in business unless they were a front for money laundering or something like that. Anyways, the place has the best pepperoni pizza around, they load it up with lots of cheese and there will be nice puddles of grease on top of the peppperoni slices. Put the slice in one of their take-out bags and the paper bag will go see-through in a couple minutes. It's unhealthy as fuck and you can almost feel your arteries clogging after a couple slices, but damn is it ever good.
  23. Yup, time to start hitting the garage sales to pickup some bargain vinyl. Of course now that I've said that, there won't be anything for sale other than ABBA and Styx...
  24. A 300V transformer from the local surplus store. Looks to be in the 150-200VA range. Also got some 10V toroids, guessing they're in the 40-50VA range based on size.
