  1. And you wouldn't want to risk those bits by using plebian non-ECC RAM? Only the best ECC for your precious-es.
  2. Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected.
  3. Or summing a sample of posts here, alcohol, your mom, JH-13's
  4. So do I take it this means that there is no QA testing to ensure built units measure in spec (what ever that even is)?, or listening tests to check for defects? Sennheiser, manage FR plots tied to individual Serial numbers on the HD-800's.
  5. surely it's. and I'll stop calling you Shirley.
  6. Thinking outside the box, and possibly at the upper end of your range, but have your considered the aptly named Squeezebox Boom Squeezebox Boom FAQ - Fab4 SqueezeboxWiki There is a line in, that you can connect to, to use them as amplified speakers. If you have access to wi-fi, or are allowed to connect devices to your network, that connects to the internet, then you can connect to internet radio, pandora, etc without using your PC. If this is not the case, then this won't be such a good solution. Sound Quality is impressive for such a small all-in-one package. I've just tried it with some lossless files out of the sansa clip headphone->line-in and have no complaints. (you may need to up the default line-in volume setting as its at 50% by default to avoid clipping with hot sources, i'd guess) Goes more than loud enough to annoy co-workers
  7. Happy birthday you JH-13 pusher, you.

  9. Interesting read. However, people still haven't quite grasped what Sun said many moons ago "The Network is the computer" e.g. While you don't need the latest or most powerful computer to use as a server, you do, as JA observed, want a quiet one. The quietest computer is the one that isn't in the listening environment. people are already doing this: Component, DVI and HDMI over CAT-5 : Home Theater Blog | Home Theater News & Reviews Anyone want to try this: Cables Unlimited USB Over Cat5e Extender (Up to 150-Foot) at TigerDirect.com If you will insist on using cabling/transmission protocols with limited reach? What is the max. length of a USB 2.0 cable? - Everything USB Community There are of course other ways to skin this particular cat.
  10. Surely, you meant MOAR pixels, bigger is better, and all that

  13. Additional echo due to the $395 void in your wallet? Additional background noise from all the haters on the forums? Still waiting to see what what measured differences there are in the output, if any, or conversely what what configuration / profile / property settings you'd have to make, so there were none
  14. At the Range? with some tea? with some clients? awesome! Vicki, have a regal Birthday. God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen: Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us: God save the Queen. O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter her enemies, And make them fall. Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On Thee our hopes we fix, God save us all. Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign: May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen. 15. We seem to be generating more heat than light here. Has anybody answered the question I posed back in post 46 in this thread? (and elsewhere) (http://www.head-case.org/forums/home-source-components/6804-amarra-mini-395-a-3.html#post259604) Are they just correcting a Mac specific issue, or can it be applied generally to any system? I'd be interested in knowing the answer. Until then, we seem to be engaging in violent speculation, or spiraling down the Hello, I'm an an absolute Objectivist, and I'm a relative Subjectivist, hole.
  16. Bunch of A/V cables from monoprice.com, including For only $4.16 each when QTY 50+ purchased - High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Cable 28AWG - 12ft w/Ferrite Cores (Gold Plated Connectors) - BLACK | 28AWG HDMI Male to Male Cables , which started a "HDMI cables, aren't they very expensive?" conversation in the break room with a co-worker (based on their experience in Best-Buy). Then I showed him the receipt If only they were ""Soulfully quiet" What was also interesting, was as the order was under 10Lbs, in CA it was cheaper to use the Overnite Express option ($4.73) then the Standard 3-5 Business Day ($6.24) option (which in reality would be 2 days for NorCal) Overnite Express | 9:00 PM Drop-Off, Delivery throughout California, Arizona, Nevada & Mexico | Overnite Express NextDay, delivers on the next business day(Mon-Fri) before 4:00 PM Pacific Time for Only $4.73 Flat upto 10LBs with in California and additional $0.50 per LB after first 10LBs. Please consult the Service Guide for additional information on shipments shipping to Arizona and Nevada which are also areas available for this service. So sometimes, faster is cheaper! WooHoo!
  17. ^ Richard Gere Signature Edition? ^^ "Without waxing poetic, this is a spdif cable capable of transforming a system on its own. Fast, soulfully quiet, articulate, revealing without grain, extended, nuanced and graceful. This is the recommended 'sweet spot' length of 2m. Digital information transfer at its best. Proprietary locking RCA's." And all for a Kilobuck! (used) down from 2.5 Kilobucks.
  18. 'You might very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment'.
  19. Can someone explain why Moore's law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia doesn't seem to apply to the transistors in audio gear? (OK I can understand the concept of amortizing the fixed cost of R&D, over a limited production run, but that's why you use Commercial off-the-shelf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia solutions to solved problems) Comments made in http://www.head-case.org/forums/home-source-components/7298-wavelength-wavelink-asynchronous-usb-s-pdif-converter-2.html apply equally here, I'd Say.

  23. This thread may help you Radio sound quality as compared to boom - Squeezebox : Community : Forums The original boom white paper describes it in detail http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/attachments/download/26/Logitech_Squeezebox_Boom_Audio_Design.pdf Which lead to the question (answered by the audio designer) Quote: Originally Posted by gdpeck View Post I'm very curious as to the applicability of this paper to the Radio. George It uses a single stereo DAC, therefore it does not do the subwoofer mode. It does do the same crossover and bi-amping, which is one of the most critical parts IMO. -Caleb __________________ Caleb Crome Sr. Hardware Engineer
