  1. Al, Google puts the MCO -> TPA driving on the order of ~ 90 miles / 1 1/2 Hours one way. Off out now . talk later .
  2. This is starting to look possible. No Direct Flights from the bay area to TPA However , as 909's link points out, Virgin America fly direct to MCO, and when you are travelling in the back, Virgin can be more pleasant than other carriers. Less time in the air helps. Getting from MCO to TPA - or the hotel would require car rental, but thanks to Florida's tourist economy, it's not unreasonable. Even more so if the cost could be split via a share. (could even do a 1 way and drop off at TPA or vice versa depending on how things work out) Are there any other attendee's for whom MCO is a cheaper / easier flight than TPA? what days would you be flying in / out? Another advantage is we get another set of wheel's at our disposal. With myself , Vicki , and CJ'? - that gives three non-drinking drivers for offsite excursions. Thoughts? I'm likely to follow the come early / stay late model, or at least aim for civilized flight times from the Bay Area. ( why suffer unnecessarily? )
  3. On Friday I had the fun experience of the "traditional" approach to making a (replacement) dental crown (multiple impressions, making + fitting of temporary crown etc) . And this was just the first visit. I still have the second visit to look forward to for the removal of the temporary crown and the fitting of the permanent crown. On discussing this with our FD at work, she mentioned that her dentist had used a CNC milling machine to make a crown, and fitted in in the same visit. No temporary crown required. She seems happy, and the cost was not dissimilar to the traditional approach. I found some blurb on the web here Dental Crown and Bridges from Harbour Landing Dental ( see New Advanced Materials and Fabrication section) Any HC-er's have experience (comparative or otherwise) and / or care to comment. I'd be interested in this approach, next time this required and welcome your feedback.
  4. Friday: Spent 2 hours in the dentist's chair, on the first visit for a replacement crown ( impression, removal of old crown, 2nd impression, fitting of temporary crown). fun. Not. Saturday: Burning Amp 2010! Fun. Indeed. 16. Mike, you may be in the target market. Others may not. Preview Let's get the hard part out of the way at the start. The new MacBook Air isn't a cheap computer, and was never going to be. If you're the sort to throw a fit because you can by a 15in octo-core

  19. The controller part of the Duet works with the Touch ( or any other SB player) - but then the combo is pricier than your original intent. The controller is a decent bit of kit - but the world has moved on, economies of scale mean other devices are more capable for the same price You don't need a smart-phone per-se- just a wi-fi enabled device to use on the network So maybe a bargain used nokia 770, N800, N810 or N880 might fit the bill, or one of the new iPod touches running the iPeng app, and its a multi functional / multi tasking device, so you could play Angry Birds, or Plants vs Zombies while you listen .... You could even be extravagant and get two touches , one hooked up to you dac, one to act as a touch screen controller for the other (it uses the same UI elements as the controller, and you can decide which device you want to control ....) Lots of flexibility - you just need to decide what bests fits your use case and budget ...
  20. I'd suggest you consider the Touch, as it has better analog + Digital outs plus a color touch screen. I/R Remote for couch control. If you already have a smartphone / netbook then you can use the web interface , or one of the dedicated control apps over local wi-fi. .... When television is good, nothing -- not the theater, not the magazines or newspapers -- nothing is better. But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite each of you to sit down in front of your television set when your station goes on the air and stay there, for a day, without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland.
