APC 1000VA POWER SAVING GREEN BACK-UPS XS - WITH LCD DISPLAY $89.99 Online Only - with free Shipping from Office Max http://www.officemax.com/technology/cables-surge-battery-backup/ups-surge-protection/ups-battery-backup-devices/product-prod2850538?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Technology-_-Cables,%20Surge%20and%20Battery%20Backup-_-UPS%20and%20Surge%20Protection&srccode=cii_13736960&cpncode=00-12182501-2 Recently bought one from a B+M Store for more. This is a very good price, especially with the free shipping. You do run all your non battery powered critical devices (or ones that just don't like hard power resets) off a UPS don't you? cheap insurance at the price. Also nice LCD that can be used to measure power draw / time remaining.

Al, Hope you manage to end up somewhere warm + dry with a suitable drink in your hand. There has been quite a lot of weather (wind + rainfall) in Marin recently, and it all has to end up somewhere. Continued best wishes for your Mother.

You might want to compare iPeng with squeezepad. Both apps have their fans.

I didn't . Joanne purchased one for use with her business

The latest version of Tapatalk now exploits the increased resolution of the iPad. Update your apps!

Do you see any anomalies in Audacity?

Having just paid more for the local dealer to read the codes after Joanne told me the check engine light came on, and tell me that "All the sensors were OK, so we reset the light", I decided to acquire the capability for myself, should it happen again.

Al, best wishes for your mother, all the rest is just small stuff. Quite a wet and windy night for your special day.

Happy Birthday Al. I predict celebratory cocktails! Maybe This http://www.shot-cocktail-recipe.com/cocktail-recipes/happy_birthday_1.html ( looks a bit sweet ) or more in keeping with the moar hard core nature of this site http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink11675.html maybe this by the end of the evening http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink7724.html (but somehow i doubt it) Enjoy your day!

Here Perhaps? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkpoint_Charlie_Museum . Visited it when the wall was up, and with Joanne, just as it was coming down. I recall how cold it was, and the incessant sound of people chipping at the wall with hammers. November '89. Wow, that long ago.

Top Gear China? http://www.finalgear.com/news/2011/03/19/watch-15-minutes-of-top-gear-china/ Sounds like the Chinese for "Stig" is "Stig" (11:38, 11:49)

True dat. (Executive summary: TL;DR ) However, reduction of nuanced technical arguments to a series of bullet points Sound Bad! Hulk Smash! Has its own set of dangers. http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/discourse http://www.sociablemedia.com/articles_culture.htm Eschewing Obfuscation and espousing elucidation is a noble aim. http://www.lawrence-najjar.com/papers/Eschew_obfuscation.html

If it sounds good, but has glaring technical problems, would it sound better if they fixed those glaring technical problems? Why put up with fixable / avoidable glaring technical problems? If Beringer can avoid them for $29 it seems to imply that cost is not the issue in avoiding the problems? If you have a defined test regime, then you can apply the same tests ( + measurements) to different devices irrespective of the cost of the device, and compare them. In the absence of measurements, how do you get a (process/product) improvement feedback loop to make better stuff? As Lord Kelvin said "If you can not measure it, you can not improve it." You can argue about measuring the right things, would the same approach be justified if he warned consumers against expensive gear that measured and sounded bad, when there was better sounding gear that measured better for less? I'm looking forward to Tyll measuring the Bose and Beats headphones

AT&T will cap DSL and U-Verse internet, impose overage fees http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/13/atandt-will-cap-dsl-u-verse-internet-and-impose-overage-fees/ Ladies and gentlemen, the days of unlimited broadband may be numbered in the United States, and we're not talking wireless this time -- AT&T says it will implement a 150GB monthly cap on landline DSL customers and a 250GB cap on subscribers to U-Verse high speed internet starting on May 2nd. AT&T will also charge overage fees of $10 for every additional 50GB of data, with two grace periods to start out -- in other words, the third month you go over the cap is when you'll get charged. DSLReports says it has confirmation from AT&T that these rates are legitimate, and that letters will go out to customers starting March 18th.

Happy Birthday Fitz, have a good one!

This is what I'm showing at at the moment at home. Yes indeed, Comcast does have a 250GB cap. But the trick with limits is not to exceed them Funny story regarding Comcast and their cap. I mentioned the cap to a co-worker, and comcasts data useage tool. He was unaware of this, as he never checked his comcast user page / email. It turned out he was a big fan of sabnzb / sick beard / xbmc etc. So when he was contacted by comcast complaining of over 1TB / month usage ... He was told that if he breached > 250GB a month again within the next year there could be suspension of service ... so we checked his usage on the 6th of the month and it was already up to 500GB ... Ooops! It all ended well, as he has (/ was forced to ) upgraded to their uncapped business internet ( for more money + being forced to rent their modem) Luckily he has a "Business website", and said that all that traffic most be due to the "network testing" and Linux ISO's he transfers / downloads. Like him I prefer my Linux ISO's in 720p

Got diagnosed with Bilateral Conjunctivitis. Yay! (NOT) , and just when I thought I was coming to the end of a delightful cold that seems to have been doing the rounds. Oh well, the doctor has told me work from home tomorrow, given its contagious nature. Antibotic eyedrops , and some additional antibiotics ( a 'Z'-pack ) for possible ear infection. At least I can still enjoy my Ice Cream.

I found this comment amusing "The target audience for modern pop thinks their trunk rattle is part of the song. "
