  1. Dew eet, Dinny. Then I can say
  2. Happy Belated birthday, sir
  3. Just popped over to the local (genuine) Apple Store, and I have to say, the new MBA's are 'teh hotness'. Installs of Lion so fresh, they hadn't yet added (non hardware accelerated) flash. As a co-worker commented on the pricing, from just $999. (No Mac would be "only"). Talking with one of our sales people, they commented that the retail staff are trained not to say no / use negative phrases. Instead things like "As it happens". e.g. As it happens, Memory is soldered to the motherboard (So no user replaceable memory upgrades for you!, instead you'll just have to pay apples "magical" memory prices that evoke a child like sense of wonder (as in I wonder how they can get away with charging so much)
  4. New MBA's All Round!
  5. An idea so good, the Chinese copied it? http://birdabroad.wordpress.com/2011/07/20/are-you-listening-steve-jobs/ (fake apple store knock off's appear in China - amazing)
  6. Steve wants you to buy all your new bits from the iTunes store. But isn't that what *cough* your networked vortexbox appliance , the 'net, or friends are for EDIT: Ditto for DVD's and Blu-ray's too, I suppose

    Spotify

Spotify has come to the US. Maybe the Admins can move the Spotify stuff from the MOG thread to here?
  9. The Leftsetz letter article on spotify raises some good points. You are being tracked "Without Spotify, labels know only when an album is sold. If a CD is ripped for a friend or borrowed for a party, they know nothing. Spotify gives them a record, by location, age and gender, of every single time a track is played. Jay-Z used to think he was big in London, based on U.K. album sales; it turns out he’s big in Manchester." The desktop is free, but who uses a desktop, grandpa? PAYING Forget that Spotify is free on the desktop. The iPad has put a dent in PC sales, it killed the netbook, it’s all about wireless and hand-held. There’s no free option for mobile. To think people won’t pay is to believe they’re going to stop texting. mmmkay DRUGS That’s what music is, a drug. That’s what Spotify is. And the way you get people hooked is to give them a taste for free.
  10. Your Team Loses on Penalties, in the World Cup? You may now have some insight in to what it feels like to be an Englander, and one of our less auspicious traditions (e.g a Google search for "England lose on penalties" yields About 5,180,000 results ) I heard an interesting NPR report on the magnitude of what Japan managed to achieve PESCA: This is where the great sports narrative should have kicked in, where the David and Goliath story should have come to pass. But you know what? It did. Only the U.S. wasn't David. Think about it: One of these two teams was the greatest women's soccer power in history. The other had never won a game in group play before this year. One of these teams had never lost in 25 previous matches against the other. One of these teams comes from a nation where soccer is the most popular team sport among girls; the other comes from a country where only 25,000 girls played the game as of 2006. http://www.npr.org/2011/07/18/138462422/world-cup-u-s-loses-to-japan-on-penalty-kicks Something to lift the nations spirits after the Earthquake / Tsunami .
  11. It claims to be a Sonance Dual Level DL800. The company is still around , but no details for this model on the web. I may give them a call. It has a speaker level pass-through, but more useful to me is are the stereo pre-amp inputs ( from the rotel) 40-150Hz variable low pass filter , and variable gain (The Dual Level refers to a 12v switchable second gain level). So hours of fun await, annoying the neighbors ( ) finding the right gain and crossover to blend it in with the quads.
  12. Technically I didn't buy this, but took it off the hands of someone for whom it was surplus to requirements. A subwoofer to pair with the Quad 12L desktop setup. In Audio Mode. In Video Mode. Low Frequency Powwwweeeerrrr!
  13. From last night Costco's new Chocolate pound cake (Note: diet coke for scale - its not an uber muffin) Slice Add Fruit and Ice Cream Serve! Yum!

  19. Yay, 1st confirmation of of a real viewer of the Bushy Report in the form of a complaint! Susan Ford sent a message using the contact form at http://cmcm.tv/contact. In regards to your new program The Bushy Report. I find the show offensive, inappropriate to the audience, misogynistic, juvenile and just plain and simply - TRASH. If this is the type of programming I can look forward to, then I must withdraw my support. Seems like the host is using our public access to get dates!! Thanks for listening, Dr. S. Ford, PhD Yay for the Station Director and the 1st Ammendment! Hi Susan, Since the Community Channel (27) is a public access channel, by law CMCM can't exercise any discretion whatsoever over programming content - other than scheduling adult themed material after 10:00 pm. I appreciate your concern though, and while we can't officially discourage or prevent questionable programming - we do try and encourage and promote the programming that is community based and supportive of the efforts of our local residents. We've been blessed with many like minded residents and overall I think the programming reflects the interests of the communities we serve - rather than the interests of just a few individuals. We'll keep trying - but we'll never make 100%. I hope you keep watching the channels! Just make a note to avoid that certain time! take care, Michael Executive Director Community Media Center of Marin
