  1. The Boss let us off early today, it being The Holidays and all, so what did I do with the extra time? Went to the DMV to get my drivers licence renewed, on the assumption that most people would have better things to do at this time .... In, take number, wait (while listening to audiobook) - Sight Test - Thumb print, photo, $31 please, out in 45 minutes. Festive eh? Slightly more fun than all the people circling for parking at all the retail establishments I passed on the way home. At least its all over until the New Year now.
  2. My condolences Mike.
  3. Or This Or This
  4. HeadPhoneSpoon? (like urban spoon) - just shake to auto generate ( or pick) a headphone rating.
  5. Or Pirate Booty?
  6. ^Maybe it was just as well Stax was bought out by the Chinese, otherwise who knows what might have happened?
  7. Nah, Zardoz, surely?
  8. But, but, ... it just works, right? (the RDF must be fading)
  9. You forgot <unlikely_dream> 4. Son gets A Clue, swaps Nukes for Food, becomes respected member of international community, dancing in streets. </unlikely_dream>

  16. I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave Non raided - as thats only for availability not backup. Not mission critical. Offline mirroring of the drives for backup ( theres an e-sata port and I have a e-sata drive dock for such a purpose the data is mostly static) . Allows for individual drives to spin/power down independently, or just be swapped out if theres an issue (or moved to another machine , or mounted externally etc) without delays in rebuilding an array. Meets my use case. For Now Now all I have to do is wait for storage to drop in price to pre flood levels. e.g. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Desktop-WD20EARS/product/B002ZCXK0I?utm_campaign=chrome_ext&utm_medium=www&utm_source=product_link_ttp
  17. Plenty of material on YouTube. Quite the legacy. If you want some insight into the man and his life, you could do worse than his memoir Hitch 22 The local library had the unabridged version on 15 Cd's. All the better for the authors delivery and inflection. Plenty of Debates out there. I Liked the Munk debate on religion, if only to see Tony Blair get Hitchslapped. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYMyxa5fysI&list=UUO2aPSqobmHAeeV7SOOEtIw&index=1&feature=plcp or a nice line about Sarah Palin
  18. Replaced the servers stock intel cooler with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus that was on special at newegg The case design of the R3 allowed me to do the swap in place. Nice. CPU Idles slightly cooler. Full load via Prime95 down from ~70o C to ~470C , no noisier, so worth it. A touch more air flow for the memory and drives (now labeled for maintenance ) as well.
  19. I was lucky enough to catch him in full force at a local bookshop on an authors tour. He was accompanied by a couple of miniatures of Black Label. So Long Hitch. http://www.newyorker...r-hitchens.html
  20. Happy Birthday Ax
  21. Or move it to where you can't hear it, and stream the audio data (using an asyncronous error correcting protocol with resend/retry) to a (buffered, with own local clock) silent device with no moving parts (obviously)? But where's the fun, upgrade upsell potential (and clicks) in a solved problem.
  22. Operation Fast And Furious
  23. Let me Google that for you
