Happy Birthday Jim!

Went to an ex-neighbor's wedding replay party, where they reenacted their wedding vows, officiated by their landlady, for those who weren't able to attend the real ceremony the previous weekend. Later in the evening there was an open mike ( for themselves and their 'creative' friends ) and bride and groom tossing. Scotty, another chef ex-neighbor and mutual friend grilled up some mean orange/honey Salmon cheeks and belly's. We know we are back in Marin.

^ Quite. Any fool knows you dunk biscuits in your tea, not spiders.
-
^ Does look wet, but good that you had beer, company and fun to keep you dry!

Now back at SFO where it is indeed warmer and sunnier. Larkspur is likely to be even more so.

Enjoyed a not too overpriced (in Sterling) latte in LHR waiting for the gate to be announced for warmer/sunnier climes Joanne hopes to get some time by the pool when we get back this afternoon.

Final meal in UK last night. What did you expect Chocolate roulade, cream and a chocolat noir tour d'eiffel from Paris.

Went to Maldon (home of the same named sea-salt). Had a walk by the water. Came across evidence of Al's diversification into retail catering

Slumming it again I see. Oh the hardship

You realise that cube has almost everything bacon related, except ... Actual Real Bacon! Does it qualify as a bacon-tease?

But, Shelly, no doubt you've thought about doing this.

One more mind blowing feature of the colussus / lorenz decrypt work was using humans to act as ADC's , to read the intercepted transmitted analog teleprinter signals and turn them into the equivalent digital teleprinter punched tape.

Oh, and the Golf seemed to like the motorway cruising at the 70mph speed limit on the way back. Which is just as well as diesel here is north of 1.41 quid / liter. Don't think I'm moving back just yet.

Finally made it to Bletchley Park, Home of the UK WWII decryption efforts that cracked the enigma code (all without the help of Jon Bon Jovi The background story of the early days of computing is interesting enough in its own right, but itn was fascinating talking to the volunteers involved in the bombe and colossus rebuild projects. It takes a certain kind of dedication to bring back to life these early computing devices from only limited and incomplete information.Plenty of details, but just to pick a few specificsThe Bombe weighed about a ton, and had its own total loss lubrication system with a two pint reservoir. They had to retool and remanufacture this from scratch. Truly impressive. How Many computing devices do you know need an oil pan under them to catch the drips.Colussus. Worlds first digital, electronic, stored programme computer. 2500 Tubes, draws 8KW.A very rewarding day for something that for 30 years was an untold story.
