  3. Patience, Grasshopper. Mastery is its own reward. From my wet film days. Breath Control. Posture / Bracing / Grip. (Essentially are you a stable platform for the camera) Squuuueeeezing the shutter release, gently , rather than pounding on it. Keep at it Dinny, and have fun.
  4. Have you had your eyesight checked recently? * Camera Shake? * (too) long exposure ? * too Narrow DoF? * too low ISO for available light? If a zoom lens , fully zoom in , focus on some fine detail ( at max zoom ) then zoom back out for framing ?
  5. Shouldn't this post be in the what are you drinking thread
  6. The Compact Disc is 30 years old - at least if you work back to when the platform first went on sale to punters. The first commercially release disc and player - respectively, Billy Joel's 52nd Street and Sony's CDP-101 - were introduced in Japan on 1 October 1982. The disc was released by Sony's recorded music subsidiary, CBS. http://www.reghardware.com/2012/10/01/compact_disc_is_30_years_old/ I remember first hearing about the CD when a fellow student enthused about this amazing new music format in an article in The Scientific American. He was amazed that thanks to built in error correction, you could drill holes in the disc, and it would still play! (according to the article). Or Seeing the CD pressing plant in the Oxford Street Virgin Megastore. Or buying a CD even though I didn't have a CD player at the time. Happy Birthday CD!
  7. With the warm temperatures in the bay area, we were out on the deck when Joanne had a hankering for Woodlands Market Salted Caramel Ice cream. Being the dutiful husband, how could I refuse? Unfortunately they were out of their own brand, so I was forced to choose. Or not, as the case may be. It may not be Berthillion, but, mustn't grumble ,

  22. Gary Barlow on updated album of Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds X Factor judge Gary Barlow will record two songs for an updated version of The War of the Worlds, the classic seventies concept album based on H.G. Wells' novel of the same name. Barlow will sing "Forever Autumn" and "The Eve Of The War", both of which were performed by Moody Blues singer Justin Hayward on the 1978 original. The Take That star will appear alongside soul singer Joss Stone, rapper Maverick Sabre and Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson on composer Jeff Wayne's new album. Actor Liam Neeson takes on Richard Burton's role as The Journalist, the piece's narrator, with Wilson taking the role of The Artilleryman, originally performed by David Essex. Wilson will also appear in a stage version of the musical. The album will be released on November 12 for download and on double vinyl. http://www.thewaroftheworlds.com/news/thenewgeneration.aspx Why? just, Why?
  23. Yesterday was first day back at work after vacation. It was like I hadn't been away. I think I can safely assert: Vacation > Work My body still can't decide what time zone it thinks it's in, yet. On our return one of Joanne's Sisters posted a "Look what you're missing" picture. I fail to see what i'm missing
